That was a great win. Once again a team effort. You can see the potential for this team. Clicking for at least half the game in this one. Leon was big. This team is like 12 deep.

Nice to see Doc make an adjustment when we were once again getting murdered on the boards…wasn’t sure he was capable of making this decision.

Excellent, just got home from dinner to see the score. Will enjoy watching this from the treadmill tomorrow.

No Master PO(we) headline?

by Master Po on Jan 18, 2008 10:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Nice win. Philly kept it close for the first half.

The lack of boards was odd, but then I noticed the C’s were shooting a crazy percentage, so it didn’t matter much. Good to see Powe & Pruitt get some run…

Congrats Leon! Welcome to alot of sleepless nights.

Powe really deserves the picture here.

Kinda cool to see that run with Pierce sitting out the 4th.

No clue why Doc left Ray Allen in for so long.

Leon Powe provided the energy that this team hasn’t shown much at all since the West coast trip.

Solid game for Pierce and Ray put the “3” back in the Big 3.

This is the time of year Doc needs to play Powe, Baby, Pruitt, T. Allen more.

Pistons lost again tonight to the Kings, sweet music to my ears.

What’s up with Pollard? I know he doesn’t have too much pop in his game but I didn’t think he has been hurting us either. I just thought he would get more minutes than he has.

by bceltfan on Jan 18, 2008 10:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Actually I didn’t think the game was “excellent” until the about the later part of the 3rdQ and all 4Q.

For at least the 1st half the 76ers like the Wizards and Bobcats just looked a lot fresher than we did. They had more offensive rebounds up to early part of the 3rd Q than we had defensive rebounds to that point in the game.

Sorry rotations and help out D. We have big guys trying to help underneath and we are allowing his guy to get offensive boards and points in the paint. Powe single handily fixed that tonight in this game but as a team we better start getting the energy and execution back.

Just beautiful to see the Cs raining 3 pointers tonight-beautiful!

For the poll on worst Celtic you ever seen, it was Hank Finkel.
No offense to Hank but he was a big clumsey white dude who had the uneventful task of trying to sub for one icon by the name of Bill Russell and the comparison in talent was jaw dropping.

In fact Hank’s claim to fame is fathering Gino, the Celtic disco dancer.

Powe’s my favorite Golden Bear. Go Berkeley. From a Bruin, Leon.

Check out AlJeff’s line at the end of his game. The guy’s having a monster year. Congrats.

great win. perk plays good d and boards,BUT, his offense is regressing. watching him wind up for his shot resulting in a bad play makes me want to slap him around. tho he’s a bigger player than powe, watching leon catch and shoot; never bringing the ball down or winding up gets me really upset at perk. wake up perk. i was glad doc made the adjustments in the 2nd half especially putting posey at the three with 2 other bigs. however his small ball unit in the 1st half was a disaster- and gets me swearing at doc’s stubborn flat out stupidity, at times. resting pp was very good by doc.

Good game by Leon and the whole (if we overlook getting killed on the boards) team. Too bad for Leon and we fans that by mid-night (only 14 minutes to go), Doc will have forgotten who he is and what he did tonite. Look for DNP-CD for Leon over the next couple of weeks.

Is Garnett’s hand hurt?

by liam on Jan 19, 2008 12:29 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Al Jeff is clearly a talented offensive player, but his great numbers haven’t led to wins (this year or last). Most people seem to agree he can be a liability on defense. Hopefully he’ll figure it out over time, but right now he can turn in superior numbers to Garnett’s, but have nowhere near the impact on the game.

I must agree, there needs to be a picture of Powe. I wonder if this will lead to regular rotation minutes.

Hank Finkel subbed for Dave Cowens.

by Big_Easy on Jan 19, 2008 5:15 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Well, mostly Cowens, at least. Hard to believe he once averaged 11 points and 7 boards a game one season!

Doc’s decision to play small ball with Scalabrine as our tallest player is why many of us continue to doubt his credibility as a coach who can lead this team to a title. That unit cost us a 10 or 12 point deficit while they were in. Also, is there anyone else But Doc who doesn’t see that Leon should be ahead of Scal on the depth chart? Serendipity, now.

by halfman/halfoyster on Jan 19, 2008 6:06 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Finkel as the worst Celtic of all time? Only if you include the name in your evaluation. Brian’s Bruisers would like to challenge that call.

by Celtsfansince55 on Jan 19, 2008 7:08 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

“Serendipity, now.”

That would be “Serenity now”

Powe played solid minutes. Team started to really turn it around once he got into the game. Sixers definitely weren’t controlling both boards once he came in. Would like to see him move ahead of Veal on the depth chart for the back-up 4 spot. Pruitt didn’t look half bad out there either. Showed confidence in his shot and had a good handle with the ball. Defense needs more work but it wasn’t horrible.

Good game people?
They had trouble with a bad team.
Sure the 2nd half was proper, but the 1st half was improper.
This is not banner ball.

The need for a real PG remains.

Danny, trade for one now!!

Let my Leon GO!!!!

seriously doc, turn the kid loose, as tommy said “all leon has ever done when he gets minutes is play hard and produce” something a certain back up 4 has trouble with.

Leon should get at least the 5 minutes a night that scal currently gets.

by crownsy on Jan 19, 2008 9:34 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yup, Leon had a nice game and made the most of his minutes.

He’d be good trade bait in a package for a real frontline PG.

I’m interested in banner 17, not letting kids loose.

Been there, done that.

Two posts above mention Al Jeff. I was against a one on one trade of Al Jeff for KG. I still love Al and hope he can return here one day. But last nite, after the game, Donny Marshall pointed out a play, in the 4th quarter I believe, where KG didn’t get a rebound, an assist or a score, but was totally responsible for the C’s getting a basket. He’s not being the double double player we expected. He’s way more than that. It just goes to show again that the only important stat is a W.

by TrueGreen on Jan 19, 2008 9:49 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

mcpu40, Don’t know what a “real” pg is. This team’s offense is not pg-based. It’s about ball and player movement on offense and great defense. The main role of the pg on this team is to get the ball upcourt fast so the team can use it’s offensive weapons properly and to defend. Last nite House got the ball up quick if he handled it, the team got it up quick by passing when he didn’t. Once they got into half court, Ray Allen seemed to become the pg. You can also, at times, visualize KG or PP as the pg. We don’t need a “real” pg. What we do need is for the team to execute it’s offense and defense properly and for everyone to figure out how to get the most from each player.

by TrueGreen on Jan 19, 2008 9:56 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I also should have said above that it is important for the “pg” on this team to get into the paint to disrupt the defense. Then all options are open. Ray Allen, KG and PP can all do this. I don’t think House is as good at it as the above.

by TrueGreen on Jan 19, 2008 9:58 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

mcpu40, I think you are wrong about another PG. E. House has not turned the ball over much and got the message from Doc about getting across half court faster. And he gives you points from the position. What does Sam Cassell have left? Or anyone else available? You gonna carve up this chemistry to bring in Bibby? C’mon man, basketball is not just stats. Watch the game! Pruitt does not look like a bust ala Orien Greene so let’s see him get some mins. I agree Tony A. looks like a TO waitng to happen when he brings it up.
As a long time apologist for Scal I must admit I’d rather see Leon get those minutes although those minutes have been close to zero lately.

I might be wrong, but it’s a story – - as here:

Damon Stoudamire is close to reaching a buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies that would allow the 34-year-old point guard to sign as a free agent with either the Boston Celtics or the Phoenix Suns, a source told ESPN.com on Saturday.

So it is what it is.
I’m not the only one who thinks we could use another PG.
Especially with Rondo’s ‘back’ issues.
That type of issue can linger, I for one know that first hand.

Whether it’s Stoudamire, Payton, or player X, mark my words…something is coming down the pike.

by mcpu40 on Jan 19, 2008 5:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Its interesting that Tommy H, a couple of games back said that the word around the NBA on how to beat the Celtics is to get physical with them. And it seems like that IS what teams are trying to do, and relatively medicore teams are pushing us & winning. Lately, we are getting outrebounded on a regular basis. Powe is the most physical player we have. And he is a quick, strong finisher, and he seemed to manhandle Dalembert. We need to give him a hard look.

by Bozo on Jan 19, 2008 6:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good point Bozo.
Powe can bang, rebound, put back, box out, and foul out.
In that order.
Better than Scal can do.
It’d be nice to package scal, cash, a pick for another PG.
When’s Rondo coming back?
I don’t like the Monday afternoon game…probably because I have to work.
