KG Out, Ray Allen TBD
MIAMI — Kevin Garnett will not play tonight against the Heat, and Ray Allen will be a gametime decision.
While Garnett will miss his second game with an abdominal strain, Allen’s status is in question because he’s been suffering with a flu bug and missed the Celtics’ morning shootaround. It is hoped that, with the extra rest, he’ll be able to play tonight, but the team couldn’t say for certain.
Garnett, meanwhile, went to shootaround and did some conditioning away from the court. According to Doc Rivers, he is improving but is still not nearly a sure bet to return by Thursday’s home game against Dallas.

mcpu,

Maybe KG should talk to Shaq about his abdominal strain. When Shaq had his issue when he was with the Lakers, he sought advice of some specialist whom he claims saved his career.

If Scal starts, Doc needs to be fired. Hopefully Doc will wise up and get Powe and BBD to pound the glass and muscle Haslem.

uh…this is KG we’re talking about, not Theo Ratliff or Shareef Abdul Raheem (is that dude even in the league anymore?)
This is, and i hate to use this term, a MEANINGLESS game. Now if Thursday KG still can’t go, yeah, i’ll get a little worried.
MCPU: If big $$ makes you ill, you shouldn’t watch professional sports at all. Secret: everyone is overpaid!!!
mcpu40, I was on your side of this money argument last year when management was making their embarassingly overt attempt to get into the Oden sweepstakes by sitting out healthy players. The numbers I was running were the dollars I wasted going to games where there wasn’t a pretence to compete to win games by management. You, I think, were okay with management ripping off the fans and the league last season. …….Obviously, the league wasn’t okay with it, though.
Paul, Big Al, Delonte, and Ryan sat out games due to “injury” while the second worst record was “secured”.
Garnett is clearly hurt. Ray has been fighting through injuries since last season. I’m okay with them sitting out until they’re healthy. The window with this team isn’t all that big. We need these two very healthy for the stretch run and the playoffs. We also need to see what we have in Powe, Davis, Pruitt, and Tony.
Ray more than likely caught the flu from Scal. Yet another one of the little things he does.

No one on the squad was making $23,000,000 for one season.
I suppose I was okay with players sitting last year…and I’m okay with KG sitting.
I’m just making CelticRebel’s point: everyone is overpaid!!!
Some more than others.
I guess I’m the only one who thinks it’s crazy to pay a guy a half a million dollars to sit on the bench.
That’s where the NFL is clearly better than the NBA.
Players can be CUT.
Not that KG would get cut, that’d be dumb.
But players like McGrady, that’s another story.
Hilarious post, FlCeltsFan.
I wouldn’t call them overpaid, 40. The fan decides that by their attendance or lack thereof. Since there is record attendance, hard to make that case. I wholeheartedly agree with your NFL analogy, though. McGrady, Tank Carter, Webber, Kidd, and several others are getting money they don’t deserve because they couldn’t be cut.
Unless Doc makes him sit, Ray will play. I’d bring him off the bench if I were Doc.

Mcpu40 what is your point exactly? Injured players shouldn’t be paid? Or McGrady, Arenas, Brand, Foye, etc., ought to be cut? (Sorry they don’t cut injured stars in the NFL either.) Maybe you don’t think Garnett and Allen are earning their keep? I’m honestly confused by the ire.

mcpu40 do you get paid for sick days at work…I do and so does everybody else I know…

If they hurt themselves doing what they are payed to do, then of course they get their money.
If they were to get hurt doing something wreckless during the season (like base jumping) then I could see your argument.
Just ask yourself one thing, do you rather see that money sit now or an extend period of time later (including the playoffs)

I just heard that Scal is starting. He really earned it in his last start with 1 pt and 1 rebound, while Baby’s first and only start produced 16 pts, 9 rebounds. I told you guys Doc is terrible. Scal better come up with a Big Game.
FIRE DOC! >:(
its alot of money in the regular season game against the heat. i dont really need them to kill themselves to play when we could go on a 10 game losing streak and still be a lock for the three seed since our division is terrible.
get KG healthy, ray is the flu, so its not like its gonna be a long term injury. this is a non-issue. would you rather KG played tonight against the heat, and tore an abdominal muscle?
Everyone made nice points against me.
Yes, I get 5 sick days a year…which are paid…after that, they’re not.
I also get 2-weeks vacation.
My wife and I have a 2nd baby on the way in April, and I have to use my vacation time for that.
And I make about $50,000 a year.
KG is getting enough money sitting these 2 games to buy a house in Wellesley, cash.
My point?
I’m not demanding KG or Ray Allen get out there and play.
I don’t want to see them get hurt.
And I’m not saying they should give money back for sitting.
They are beyond overpaid, all of them.
But whoever made the point that we pay their salaries by going to the games, buying their shirts, etc., is pretty much right on.
NFL / NBA = two different animals.
Should KG have a career ending injury (currently knocking on all the wood I can find), the C’s would be strapped for years to come.
Should Tom Brady have a career ending injury Sunday (currently knocking on every piece of wood in my house), the Patriots would recover.
So sitting KG is right; mend his injury.
Sitting Ray Allen if he has the sniffles is okay by me too.
It’s just a little crazy the money these guys get.
Especially since I didn’t even see KG behind the bench in Orlando rooting his team on…
so you pretty much just have a problem with salaries in sports in general, which is fine, but why would you come in here crying about hurt guys making money?
also, to use a famous quote “If your not worth it, people don’t pay.”
the reason professional athletes make so much is because fans pump a ridiculous amount of money into their leagues. If you break down players salaries with regards to the total profit of the nba, there actualy quite equivalent, percentage wise, to a high paying white collar positions. you want to take a stand on NBA players salaries, start a campaign to boycott the NBA’s overpriced merchandise, once the NBA stops pulling in an estimated 2 billion a year in merch alone, the players share of the money will go down, i assure you.
but until then, not real sure what the point of your post was. NBA players are paid alot, thanks for the info.
also, do we even know if KG made the trip down? seems like a cramped plane ride is probley the last thing you want for an abdominal injury. i don’t know for sure, but he may be in boston. why send him on the road trip if you know your not going to play him, which doc clearly made a decision on right after the Twolves game.
A: Crownsy, I’m not crying.
B: Crownsy, I was wondering where KG was during the ORLANDO game…not last night.
C: I said everyone made nice points against me.
D: What’s with your famous quote “If you’re not worth it, people don’t pay”?
E: That’s ridiculous. Take a look a Vin Baker. How much did the Celtics pay him?
F: I don’t really care what anyone thinks, it’s nuts the money they make, $23,000,000 /year
G: Cmoney, It doesn’t piss me off enough to not watch the games..
