Ok, we beat one of the best in the West (without KG), can everyone now agree that this team is really good?

forgot to add…
Like Chuck Barkley said if Dallas cannot beat the C’s without KG bye-bye dreams of championship.

yeah we are good, we won without KG, with Scali starting for no reason, and BBD sits despite his performance solid everytime he plays. Yeah were good – so good that talent trumps injury and bad player selection.

Happy for the win. Posey was great, PP was steady, Powe was very good and Rondo makes me feel more and more confident with him at PG

I still have the Mavs going to the Finals. Their offense is confusing at times. Way too much iso and dribbling. Terry was awful all 4th quarter.

They were missing Harris.. no KG, but he helps their offense a lot.

Powe got lucky.. what a dumb foul. That’s his major hurdle right now.. fouls wayyyy too much

I’m not convinced till we win 30 straight. Till then, we’re a flash in the pan.

Posey single handedly won this game; just like garnetts play that solidified the win in Minnesota. Defense wins!!

wow-rootie kazootie that was a sweet win. rondo was great 12 rebounds- the last the best. posey was all over the floor and as great as his d was, he made the free throws.ray 1/2, pp 2/2 did their thing. leon held his own. most of us want more big baby, and there was too much scal, but he did stay on nowitski.very sweet.

by nazzbo on Jan 31, 2008 11:33 PM EST reply actions

Posey didn’t singlehandedly win the game. Rondo’s offensive rebound and putback won the game. It may have been the best play of his young career.

by Brickowski on Feb 1, 2008 12:03 AM EST reply actions

definitily a great game by rondo and an awesome game from posey. he was awesome on defense and took some key charges. Rondo had some insaneee moves but if only he could finish under the basket. DO NOT understand why Scal is starting over Posey, Baby, or Powe. It amazes me that doc plays him that much. Hopefully that changes.

in the words of a famous rapper, Dallas,

watch out for the Po-Po’s!!!!!!

Both po’s (leon and james) really contributed alot tonight.

also, just so were clear, rondo is no longer "a guy we hope can play PG’ hes a player on a major team, and it is going to be fun to watch him grow up.

now time for bed, what a game.

yea brick, that play gave me goosebumps, brought me up out of my chair.

i would even give him a steal, that was a muscle up on a seven footer because he wanted it more thank dirk did. Rondo is quite about it, but he has a killer instinct for the basketball. he plays by the motto “its my ball at all times, and im taking it from you no matter who you are or how much bigger than me you might be.”

by crownsy on Feb 1, 2008 12:13 AM EST reply actions

A nice game no doubt. Powe is starting to “get it” maybe cuz the team is “giving” him a chance. We played hard and desperate. Rondo has to keep playing like tonite kg or not. When he plays with full energy he controls the game on both ends

by Triboy16 on Feb 1, 2008 12:21 AM EST reply actions

great win – everyone played within themselves. powe has brought a little extra something to the team the last few games. outstanding defense in general – dallas made a lot of really tough shots and we forced them off so many shots all game. as to why scal is starting, he’s a pest on defense. big baby and powe give us more on offense, but scal knows exactly where to be and does a good job irritating guys he guards.

by get_banners on Feb 1, 2008 12:43 AM EST reply actions

great, solid win tonight. Rondo was in control of the offense and it was good seeing him take some initiative (even though he really needs to finish those layups). I thought everyone played within themselves tonight – the stars were stars and the rest stayed in their roles and played efficiently.

by scurvmeister on Feb 1, 2008 12:53 AM EST reply actions

Give Doc credit for even playing Rondo down the stretch. Leon is showing that he deserves quality minutes. One of Doc’s better management games this year. But still way too much SCal.

by scndtony on Feb 1, 2008 2:08 AM EST reply actions

If we had finished even half of the layups we missed, the game would not have been close.

by Celtic Steve on Feb 1, 2008 2:12 AM EST reply actions

Scal is a statistician’s dream: before the game starts you can fill in zeros across his line and sleep the night away

by Celtsfansince55 on Feb 1, 2008 2:45 AM EST reply actions

Rondo found out if you throw up enough layups one will go in. His physical endownments out pace his mental ones. He gets to the hoop in a flash and forgets what or how to do. His rebound and put back in front of Nowitzky was one of his key 12 boards. Maybe Doc let him out of the playpen because the offense flowed real well and he was more confident on defense. With Cassell as a tutor no telling how far Rondo’s career will go.

they missed devin harris a lot more than we missed kg. our swarming defense was phenomenal. everything nowitski got was not given to him. i don’t see the mavs a lot,but are they always so big on isos?
good subbing for doc, except too much scal, not enough bbd.

The halfcourt D in the fourth was exquisite. Terrific performance. Great contributions from Powe, who’s playing his way into the rotation.

by CoachBo on Feb 1, 2008 7:49 AM EST reply actions

Get off of Scal. He played great D on Nowitzki in the first half. He knows where to be on the floor. Despite his slowness, he rarely is out of position. He’s fine.

All the so called experts say we won’t win against the best of the West…But the on the contrary, the C’s seem to think they can beat and stay with anyone in the West, and though our record of what 12-0 against Western teams does not justify it yet, The C’s IMO are playing out of their minds right now and I have yet to see the Big 3 fire on all cylinders at the same time…

I say our main problem would be Detroit, Cleveland and believe it or not Charlotte and Orlando…for some strange bizzare reason, the C’s seem to be havin trouble from the athletic teams of the Central Division.

Once the C’s reach the Final, The Celtics would crush anyone from the West…I just feel that the way d Celtics play defense its so suited for any Western teams.

Bingo! Rondo’s killer instinct was on display in last night game. From the Boston Globe:

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2008/02/01/celtics_13_0_earn_another_west_win/
——-
After a missed jumper by Pierce, the 6-foot-1-inch, 171-pound Rondo snuck behind the 7-foot, 245-pound Nowitzki and took the ball out of his hands. Without hesitation, Rondo (14 points, season-high 12 rebounds) scored on a reserve lay-in to give Boston a 92-90 lead with 42.5 seconds left. “[Rondo] came in from behind on us and I GUESS WE JUST LOST VISION OF HIM, and it was a huge play for him,” said Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said.
——-

Well, Avery… you didn’t really just lose vison of him; Rondo instinctively saw the play developing way before anybody else, and reacted to take advantage of Dirk, who is almost a foot taller and 74lbs heavier than Rondo. You can’t teach this stuff. Either someone has this tyoe of killer instinct or they don’t. Rondo definitely has it.

Before the game I said, using Mike Gorman’s logic, that it wasn’t that important a game. The media has been trying to make out that we must beat the best teams of the West before being considered legitimate contenders. Mike Gorman said we will only see one Western Conference Team in the playoffs/finals as opposed to seeing many teams from the East. I still agree with Mike Gorman, but boy did I love winning last nite. The reason—I can’t stand Mark Cuban.
JAMES POSEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

Rondo is such a gamer. He attacked the ball, attacked the basket. 12 rebounds? The last over 7 foot Nowitski? Those layups will come as long as he continues his attack.
Dirk has no inside game — I’m sure everyone already knew that.
Garnett would have shut Dirk down. Dirk’s size and speed are matched by KGs.
Where was Dallas’ interior D? How many times did Pierce run in get fouled and the shot? Incredible.
Ray Allen is not a “3 Point Shooter”. He has an inside game, an outside game and a midrange game. And he needs touches to get his feel. When will Doc figure out an offense that runs through Rondo to Pierce, Allen, and KG?

Nice win. Good games from Allen, PP, Rondo, Powe, Posey, House, etc…

Still confused by Scal over BBD. I know Davis isn’t a defensive genius, but he’s decent and FAR better than Scal as an offensive rebounder. And the whole ‘can score in the post’ thing… Sigh.

I think you answered your own question. BBD is an under the basket player now. Scals can defend the periphery—Nowitzki—. That is what was need last nite.
