Cousy Out, Heinsohn Scaled Back at CSN
Scott's Shots has the following news on CSN:
Comcast SportsNet announced on Thursday that Tommy Heinsohn will work zero road games this season for the first time in 28 years. In addition, Shots has confirmed that the network’s nine-year relationship with add-in color commentator Bob Cousy has ended. Cousy had averaged about ten games per year for CSN, according to a spokesman for the regional network.
Heinsohn will continue to do color commentary for home Celts’ games alongside Mike GormanGary Tanguay. Donny Marshall gets color duty for the full slate of CSN’s road games and Greg Dickerson continues as sideline reporter for both home and away contests. and Heinsohn will provide in-studio analysis for road games, alongside
. . . CSN is also boasting "new in-game graphics, including a new logo; new in-game scoreboard; and new in-game animation. During every Comcast SportsNet Celtics telecast, fans can chat with Comcast SportsNet talent . . . during the game via ComcastSportsNet.com."

NOOO! i HATE donny marshall!! this had better have been a mutual agreement between tommy and csn due to health issues, or i swear i’ll get league pass, just so csn doesn’t get my business, and i don’t have to listen to donny blab about how he knows how these guys feel and think because he was a bench warmer for the nets. what a tool! i’d rather wave scal and have him announce then have donny do it. they call it color commentating for a reason, you color up the basics. tommy’s the man at this, and donny is as black and white (no color whatsoever) as a zebra.

Greg Dickerson needs to find a good hair braider…..and dude move back from the camera and get a suit that fits.
Mike Gorman is as a smooth and insightful as they come. A
Who is the boob from Detroit announcing team who introduces the team like it’s the And 1 Street Ball Jam Session…..let’s not get him
Hopefully Tommy won’t set home and hit the juice too heavy during games….I will miss him on the road games but generally speaking NBA League Pass sticks me with home team broadcasters better suited for used car commercials.
The travel schedule was getting to be a little much for Tommy. Donny is the best of the guys that they have kicking around CSN but its such a downgrade. In my opinion, they should offer Cedric Maxwell as much money as they can to pry him away from the radio. Aren’t there some other retired Celtics who feel comfortable giving an entertaining analysis? What about Dee Brown?
All good things must come to an end eventually. My favorite games were when Tommy and Cous teamed up. Cous with the “shoots well from the pewifiwy (periphery)”, Tommy with the outrageous bias. Just the best! I’ve got to believe that it is Tommy’s preference.
I disagree w screwedupmainiac re. Donnie. Somebody should teach him how to dress a little better but I think he’s got refreshing opinions.
I don’t have any issues with this…I love cousy and all but he does not have the voice for commentary point blank.. I also don’t dislike Donny like alot of you, as a matter of fact I like him. and to the person asking where to watch comcast sportsnet online…no offense but go look for yourself at google
This is sad, although the handwriting has been on the wall for awhile now with Heinsohn having cut back on away games so much. Those who like Donny, sure are attracted to style over substance, he comes across smooth on the surface, but he really has nothing to add/say, and his name-dropping and acting like he is a retired legend of the game gets tiring. As far as the new graphics, Comcast better keep working on their production value, they made mistakes befitting of a rookie last year and already carried it over to this year. They had this technique, loving to use their close-ups with HD, of showing a player who just made a play, a block, etc., as the play moves up court, they show a close-up of this player trailing the play, missing the current action.
This reared its ugly head again Wednesday, as the producer somehow thought showing us a close-up of an embarrassed Ratliff after having missed a dunk, right as Pruitt launched the lob pass to Walker downcourt was important, only cutting back as the ball was being flushed through, we had to wait for the replay to see the whole play. This happened constantly last year, treating it like baseball where you have time for all the face shots, not hoop where the play keeps going. Do we really need to see a close-up of the player who just made the previous play, at the expense of the current action? Comcast will have to do more than add a seemingly charismatic, youthful presence and nifty new graphics to impress me.
Cousy is the best. Tommy is an insufferable blowhard. CSN is going with youth and looks. In the words of Hyman Roth, “Because this is the business we’ve chosen!!!”

Donnie Wahlberg always did a good job when they had him on as a guest. Too bad CSN didnt hire him on instead of Donnie Marshall. Road games last year when Marshall was doing commentary I had to watch the game with no sound. Now Marshall will be doing all road games Yipeeee.

Marshall isn’t nearly as bad to merit all of this abject panic.
I’ll miss Cousy’s telling it how it is. He’s the anti-homer and a brilliant basketball guy. Tommy, while being equally as brilliant and likewise, a national treasure, is too much of a homer. Cousy was appropriately absolutely brutal the first 3 years of the Rivers regieme.
As long as Gorman is still around we have a link to the past.
