Tony Can Play

I know, that picture has nothing to do with Tony Allen, but tonight's pics don't include Tony yet.
I also can't watch the game tonight (league pass limitations) so instead of me telling you what I thought of the game, I'll be relying on you kind people to tell me what you thought of the game. Till then, I'll keep following on with the box score.

Nice stuff from Tony. Hit some shots, attacked the rim, passed well, D’d up as expected. Paddy had boards, blocks, a nice running hook. Not soft. Walker was relentless around the rim. Pru played good D and handled the ball well; not much a factor on O (exception, a highlight reel slash and dunk). JR played heady D, hit a nice baseline jumper. Kids are alright. J

Giddens looked fine tonight … good hustle D, and alert passing after steals/loose balls. A beautiful block on a Wally outside shot, a nice shot with foot on line of 3-point range, and a nice dunk / got fouled. He does look a little lost on offense, but I think labeling him a “bust” because he only played 4 minutes is game 1 is a bit premature.
I think the 2nd unit showed great continuity in the 2nd half on both ends of the court, much better than in the first game. It was especially good considering the mix of players involved. Turning up the defense increased the energy and intensity. Even POB got excited. Also, TA played a very controlled game and I think the consistency will be there from him. The 2nd unit also showed well against many of the Cav’s starters in the 2nd half. To me, Davis and Scals, regardless of financial implications seem to be fighting for the 16th spot on the roster. Powe was great going against Ilgauskas who is the type of center that should worry us when Perk is out of the game. I’d love to see Powe defend Yao Ming tonite.
There’s an article in today’s Boston Globe that Cooz was fired by Comcast and they did it in a very low class way. (I, at first thought it was Cooz’s choice). Cooz, of course, reacted in in a very classy way as did the Celtic organization. I need to find a way to let Comcast know that they suck. I at least quit them for Verizon and am glad I did.

Regardless of your thoughts on Cooz as an announcer, this is a totally classless act, done in a classless way by Comcast. Please let them know what you think of them (Comcast).
Direct T.V. carried the game on 753 and for once Comcast also showed the game on 630.
Early indications are that JR Giddens is beginning to settle down to find his game. Defensively he’s been as advertised and I hope he gets the PT to show his complete game. He seems to have great hands and plenty of speed.
I still have concerns with Gabe but he probably needs more PT too. His one-on-one defense is remarkably improved over last year and he still plays the passing lanes well. Of greater concern is his missing offense, a supposed strength. As yet he lacks aggressiveness and fails to recognize when he has his man beaten so that he can drive to the paint either to shoot or dish off as defenders react to his penetration. Later, as though chided by Doc, he fails to shed his defender and forces his shot. While time to show that he belongs is limited, we do seem to have at least one other player who has consistently underperformed (YUP, it’s Scal). The speed of the game seems to have created panic for him as he continues to throw TERRIBLE passes, yet his defense is strong and he’s beginning to rebound. Like Miles, he isn’t playing like a “savy” veteran!

I don’t think they will give up on kids like Giddens and Pruitt so soon. If they keep Miles and Cassell, Scal is gone. With all the athletic newcomers and TA regaining his game, Scal’s lack of athleticism is quite apparent.
