Tony Allen Sinks Nets
I didn't see tonight's game, but the Box Score tells a pretty good story:
- 32 points for Tony Allen - nicely done.
- 14 points and 7 assists for Gabe Pruitt - impressive.
- Eddie, 5-7 from 3 point land for 21 points.
- Powe and Big Baby had similar stat lines.
- Not much from the rookies.
- Miles only got 9 minutes?
- At the end of the day, our JV team beat the Nets starters. Kinda sad really.

Don’t forget Scal! By far his best game and a super defensive effort for him. He literally played the whole floor and as a bonus, made a LAYUP!!!! and some 3s. His performance tonight, if repeated, makes him a top 10 player on this team.

Miles only got 9 minutes?
Miles only gets a contract if he’s some kind of long term project. Right now, he can’t play and that’s awfully evident to my eyes. If anyone he’s seeing something different, it really puzzles me.
moskqq is right: Scal made his best KG impersonation tonight.

That is one weird looking box score.
New Jersey out-rebounded the Celtics by 15. The shot 54% from the field, compared to 45% …. and they still lost the game? Wow. That’s inventive.
26 turnovers for NJ to only 14 for the Celtics.
Yi didn’t get a single rebound in 21 minutes. Fouled out too, had four fouls in the first 9 minutes. Not good signs for the Nets.

Pruitt really impressed. Reminds me of Devin Harris, only alot cheaper, and may have a better jump shot. Love his defense. I think this kid has the ability to play decent back PG minutes.
Tony Allen is definitely back. Way to go, TA.

Their new offense is a turnover factory, especially when the players on the floor are not that good dribbling the ball and are facing a defensive scheme like the one the Celtics play. Lots of penetrations into a crowded lane.
Yi looks exactly like last season. He’s very good shooting from the short corner over his defender, makes some good passes but it’s pretty terrible on everything else.

I love TA.
Who you’re dead re: the box. Totally strange.

i like what i am seeing of pruitt who as i’ve said reminds me of old #43, gerald henderson. he is going to be very valuable and i hope doc does not get too afraid of some of his learning mistakes. another great pick for danny. he will probably but not this season trade some of these kids he’s developing for the vets so i am afraid to get too attached. too much chest beating from giddens.

Tony Allen looked great, but I don’t think he’s all the way back. He’s all the way back except he’s not getting full lift when he goes to the basket. The first step is there for sure and he’s much more in control, but he’s not rising like he used to. If that comes back, look out. Sounds kind of strange to say so but at this stage of his career he reminds me of a smaller version of Sarunas Marciulonis. Everyone knows he’s going to the hoop but they don’t seem to be able to stop him.
Pruitt looked terrific. The best play he made all game was that one where he got a pass as he cut to the basket and instead of going up for the shot dished out to the corner to house for a three. He was totally in control most of the night. If he’s really that good of a shooter he should be getting minutes, because the defense is terrific. He was staying ni front of Keyon Dooling and it’s not easy to stay in front of that guy.

Ball movement was surprisingly good on 2nd unit … better than I remember on 2nd unit last year. Leon actually threw the ball out of the low post a few times, which was a shocker.
Amazing how much better Eddie plays at the 2. Really good offense, and much better off the ball defense. TA continues to play under control. Looking good. Pruitt 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 0 turnovers in 29 minutes. Entry passes and shot looked much more confident tonight. BBD also more under control. POB better pick it up; he’ll be fighting for minutes with BBD. Sorry to say I don’t see Miles adding anything at this point. Hard to project where he might be in a few months, but supposedly he’s been practicing since mid-year last year. I just don’t see the movement out of him. Scal did surprisingly well; has to continue to simplify game. Less is more. Giddens and Walker need to work on maturity. They don’t need to fight everyone who fouls them. They don’t need to get a T on every foul call against them. Encouraging game for the bench.

Call me crazy, but we may have more depth this season than last.
8)
Eddie, Leon, Paddy and Tony is an explosive first 4 off the bench.
No let down players and no lack of intensity.

TA Impressive – who taught him how to dribble? PO(we) is my favorite and not just because of his name. Gabe needs a spot on this team. Scali played so well in NJ I would keep him inactive until we play NJ in NJ and then let that big red thunder roll for 48 minutes – then back in the box.
Also I like how Doc rested the starters but will now start playing them the last three games of preseason. Umbuntu Bench ;D
