Still find this trade loophole ridiculous. He should at least have to wait a year to go back imo.

Clearly orchestrated at the time of the trade
All the rest was pure show for the league, just like the Barry saga last year. The only difference between this and Stack last year, was McDyess kept his mouth shut. It is supposed to be illegal to arrange these things in advance, but there is no proof. Ha! After a rigorous examination of other offers, he just decided to pick Detroit? If all of this only happened after he got bought out, how come there were reports the day of the trade that he would be bought out and ultimately sign with the Pistons both of which are about to come to fruition?
The league either needs to make it allowed to pre-arrange, or disallow a player to go back to his former team for a period of greater than 30 days. All this does is make a dog and pony show faking to be interested in other offers so as not to give the proof of the prearrangement. I am OK if it is allowed, but it is silly to say it isn’t, but have loopholes that everyone knows exactly what is going on.

rule was made for
your beloved Celtics and the behind the scenes dealings with Gary Payton back in the day… the very same Celtics that released Lindsey Hunter to go back to Detroit in ’04 as well…
it stings when you lose out, but it’s ok if the guy signs with you. It should work both ways

yep
that’s why I can’t complain about it
the 30 day rule is in place to give the free agent a chance to field offers from around the league – he could have gone elsewhere with no strings, but he chose not to for whatever reason

Well at least he’s not going to a team where he could make a real difference, like Cleveland. I don’t think Detroit is going anywhere. Even McDyess can’t save that team, imo.

“Well at least he’s not going to a team where he could make a real difference, like Cleveland.”
Sigh. Though I think we should be alright without him, it would’ve been nice to have him aboard.

Now we have to set out sights on Joe Smith, who might get bought out, or PJ Brown.
