Celtics Salaries
A lot is being made of the LeBron James to New York in 2010 speculation recently. Which of course begs the question about what the Celtics future looks like. Hoopshype is a good resource for salary info, but Roy Hobbes pointed us to a better, perhaps more accurate site. ShamSports.com has all the details (see a copy and paste of the breakdown after the jump)
Some highlights:
- Pierce has a player option in 2010. He can opt out at that point if he thinks he can make up the $21.5M by getting a longer term deal. Personally I think he'll pick up the option and resign with the C's for a few more years to finish out his career. However, we'll see what happens with the new CBA that year. Not to mention the impact of LeBron, Bosh, and Wade all potentially moving that summer.
- At one point I thought it likely that the Celtics would trade Ray next year to a team looking to clear cap for LeBron. The potential teams looking for a deal like that apear to have already made their move. So I now expect Ray to finish out as a Celtic.
- O'Bryant's deal is not guaranteed for next year - so if the team decides to cut him loose, no problem.
- The team has options to keep Bill Walker around at a minimum salary for 4 years.
- Leon Powe and Big Baby are both up after this year. We'll have to make a decision on them soon. I still can't see us keeping both and it would be nice to trade the one we don't want before we lose him for nothing.
- I wonder how much it will take to resign Rondo.
Any other thoughts? See the salary chart after the break.

2011-2012
Does anyone know who the potential free agents are for 2011 and 2012? It would make more sense for the Cs to make their move then..
I don’t know if I agree with re-signing Pierce after 2010-11..I don’t want us to become the early 90s Celtics..competetive but old with no chance of winning the title.

BBD and Powe
Unless some other team (see Posey Hornets) overpays one for one of them they will be back. They are worth more to the C’s then they are to other teams.

So do you really want a ring Lebron?
How’s about Danny gives you a 1-year 4-million dollar contract?

BBD and Powe
Are BBD and Powe at least restricted free agents after this season?

2010
Is it a possiblity (realistic or otherwise) to have Ray’s deal end, Pierce terminate his contract, leaving our salaray cap around 24 million (probably closer to 30 or 35 million at that point) and sign someone like Dwayne Wade, then resign Pierce to a new contract then resign Ray?
Is there any monetary or regulatory guidelines against this?

Right Now
This team is relying pretty heavily on BBD, Powe and TAllen to give the starters necessary rest. The Cs have a problem other teams would love to have — young players picked up late in the draft that actually can play. Danny has a great eye for young talent. It’s like what’s happening with Matt Cassell. Coach B. and company selected a guy that no one thought much of. Now, Cassell will be a free agent next year and will be looking at a huge pay day. That’s a testament to the Pat’s front office.

Powe-T.Allen-BBD are core
I’d plan on re-signing all of them, two this summer and TA a year from now. Why think of life without such contributors.

Shamsports is better than HoopsHype
I’ve been using it as my primary info source on salaries for awhile now.
