The Globe and a few different outlets are reporting this...

"A source close to Nuggets guard Allen Iverson is telling people in Denver that he expects to be traded to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups.

Iverson makes $20 million this year. Billups makes half of that. The deal can not be executed unless the Pistons involve more players to match Iverson's cap figure.

Billups, a Denver native, has seemed open-minded to finishing his career back home. He has played for the Nuggets previously, appearing in 45 games in 1998-99 and 13 games in 1999-00." - Marc Spears

a possible source of all sorts of babbling

I’ll be spending the rest of my meetings today not paying attention and reading up on the hows and whys of this one…

Manuel Aristides Ramirez is the greatest hitter I've ever seen.

well then

looks like the pistons are already conceding

God bless and good night!

Really... really?

I’m stunned to say the least.

Pistons Conceding?

Rondo vs Iverson – should be fun (blurry) to watch.
But I think this takes the Pistons away from where they’d have to be to beat the C’s in the postseason. Good defense/smart basketball is not what you get. Plus Billups was giving the C’s a lot of problems with his imposing physicality. That is gone. I think the Cavs are still the other team to beat in the East – but that said, I’ll be watching the Pistons a lot more closely now, even if I think the trade won’t be their “answer.”

Good Move

This is more of a long term move for Detriot. They know they could no longer win a title with the current group. Iverson and ‘Sheed come off the books after this season (right?) and they will have $35-40 mil in cap room to use this summer or wait till 2010 to make a play on LeBron or the other big FAs. Good move for Detroit – they will still be competetive this season with an eye for the future..assuming they don’t extend Iverson.

Good for Detroit. What is going on with Denver?

I’m not a huge Iverson fan, but this is a great move for Detroit since Billups appears to have begun his decline. Wow, the Pistons could be real tough. Should be interesting!
Denver is an absolute mess. They should have tried to get one of the young guys instead of those two.

I actually like it for Denver

I think it makes a lot of sense for Denver. You get a true PG out of the deal and can move JR Smith to the starting rotation.

by StartOrien on Nov 3, 2008 12:53 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Didn’t they already have a starter that fills the quota for an unrepentant gunner who plays no defense?

Good Move has it right. This is a salary dump by Detroit in preparation for a complete rebuild. Iverson’s deal is expiring. Billups has 4 more years, McDyess two.

This trade has nothing to do with basketball, although it does make Denver a much better team.

by Brickowski on Nov 3, 2008 12:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

a nugget on the trade

i read that denver will buyout mcdyess, this would be perfect for the celtics to go after him after denver buys him out

by tcelt on Nov 3, 2008 1:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

that works for me

he would be an excellent pickup

by Jeff Clark on Nov 3, 2008 1:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve read that two …. but I think it’s nonsense. Like Minnesota buying out Ryan Gomes after the KG trade.

McDyess will stay with the Nuggets

Agreed

McDyess would be a great pick-up. Get on that phone, Danny.

Don't count AI out yet

I’m probably crazy, but he’s never played with anyone as good as Rip & Tayshaun.

by GreenBalls on Nov 3, 2008 1:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What about 'Melo?

Melo might be a nincumpoop, but I think he is better than both Rip & Tayshaun. Although I will admit that the latter two are probably a better fit with AI than Melo was.

I don’t like this for Detroit. Billups was a better point and AI has almost as much tread as KG. McDyess was still an effective player as well.

The Pistons will still be a tough out in the playoffs this year. Iverson thrives on defensive minded teams.

by D Dub on Nov 3, 2008 2:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good move for Detroit. They are swapping $50 mil in salary for $21. AI for this year is a good deal. McDyess owed 12 mil next 2 years and probably behind A Johnson and Maxiel in rotation. Detroit believes a lot in their young gun, Stuckey so why not. Maybe AI sticks around another year for less money.
Good for us. I missed seeing AI. And other poster was right. Chauncey was more of match up problem for us.

Summer 2009

Goodness, Detroit is going to be a major player during the summer of 09. The Truehoops article says that it’ll be able to afford 2 All-Stars (mentioned LeBron and Bosh). Looks like the title is going to be that much harder to attain next year unless Danny gets on the phones and find a way to cut Scal loose. Go DA!

Wow!

Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

by ManUp on Nov 3, 2008 4:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I really have to see how this one works out. I think it can go either way for the Pistons really good or really bad. Iverson is going to have to be really efficient with his shots because they have a lot of guys who deserve shots. At the very least they added a hungry all-star to the unmotivated bunch.

Champions

Can we just give the pistons the championship now ?

by Champzilla on Nov 3, 2008 4:38 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Why would we do that?

You're kidding, right?

I think even Dumars knows a championship probably won’t happen. As I said before, this deal has “cap room” written all over it for Detroit. I doubt they have any interest in keeping Iverson past this season..this keeps them as EC Finals contenders, just like they would be had they not made this deal.

Reyquila

When does the chant: “Get Mcdyess for the Celtics” start, now tht apparently Denver is going to set him free?

by Reyquila on Nov 3, 2008 7:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

as soon as possible

Having this guy in green would be huh-yuge.

Excellent

One of our toughest rivals just eliminated themselves. The thugster will never sniff a championship. To think of the thugster, a legendary coach and organization killer, playing for a rookie coach….As a rival, who could ask for more?

What the hell is Dumars thinking? He trades one of the league’s great clutch players and defenders for an overrated “superstar??” who guards nobody. The thugster can count the number of crunch-time shots he’s hit in his entire career on one hand. Why would Dumars, with a shallow window and a rookie coach, subject Curry to the thugster in his first season?

If it’s about money, Piston’s management would be smart to do with the thugster what the Knicks are doing to Marbury. It’d be addition by subtraction.
