Jazz Got Rondo'd
Celtics win streak extends to 15.
- Rondo got a career high 25 points, plus 8 assists, 9 rebounds, 3 steals. Not too shabby.
- Pruitt backed up Rondo in place of House and got 8 points including 2 three pointers.
- Perk added 15 points and 14 rebounds (he had a double double by halftime).
- Hats off to Paul Millsap who got a career high of his own (32 points).
- First quarter was all Celtics. Second quarter was all Jazz. Thankfully the 2nd half was mostly Celtics.
- Pierce left the game early (knee). I'll update with details as they become available.
- Update: “It should be all right,” Pierce said. “I put a little weight on it. It didn’t go back that far, so it should be all right.”

Okur or someone banged into his left knee while falling backwards in a hustle rebound. Pierce was standing up watching the play and then the injury happened. The replays didn’t really show much, just Pierce grabbing his knee afterwards looking like he was in pain.

Okur rolled into Pierce and hit him in the knees from the front. Hopefully it’s just a hyperextension.

Okur was going up for a shot
There was a little contact and he fell backwards into Pierce’s knee.

rondo pushing to be an all star
we won the game tonight and rondo was the “star” but I have to say that I didn’t like the way we played. ray allen only got a few shots and it looked like everyone was standing around waiting for rondo to do something. we turned the ball over and just didn’t look sharp. I felt that rondo tried to do too much tonight and in the process his teammates weren’t involved

I’m glad to read that quote from Pierce, because I am going to the game against the Hawks, and I got worried when he was limping off the court. Hopefully House is back Wed. too.

Horrible officiating. Celts would have won by 20 with normal calls. The play where Millsap, out of control, backs into a stationary Pierce (who was well outside the cicle) and gets the blocking foul was one of the worst calls I’ve seen in several years.
by Brickowski on Dec 15, 2008 10:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
If you don't mind, Brick, while we're on the subject of issues with calls
I’ll add to the list the foul Perk got hit with against Okur in the paint in the second half – that Tommy (rightfully!) flipped out about. Okur whacks him. Perk stands straight up. Okur whacks him again. Perk stands straight up. Shot goes up. Foul.
That’s either an offensive foul or a no-call. The call against the Beast was criminal.

I should watch my mouth (or more literally, fingers)
in this day and age, calling a bad call “criminal” could be construed as more than just my typical use of that term as an adjective meaning “insanely bad.” Thanks for ruining that for me, Tim Donaghy.
Editing above; “The call against the Beast was insanely bad.”

That was outright comical’ and i dont think the term “whack” is discription enough.. Okur elbows Perk in the mid section twice turns and jumps on the spot without a touch on eighter hand and its a foul.
That foul was awfull and must have had something to do with what went on outside that play (foul trouble, regulating foul shooting, Perk mouthing off to the refs on the defensive 3second prior to his 4th)
But yeah the ref’s where shady tonight, and alot of calls where made (and not made) that had me scratching my head but it went both ways, one sitiuation down the stretch Paul Pierce was standing in the lane for well over 8 seconds with no man to guard (only one close was the man Garnett was guarding and i hardly think that counts)
Leadership is diving for a loose ball, getting the crowd involved, getting other players involved. It`s being able to take it as well as dish it out. That`s the only way you`re going to get respect from the players

CLASSIC HOMER COMMENT! +12 free throw differential for the Celtics… I guess “normal calls” to you means twice as many fts?

The real reason the C’s didn’t win in double digits – 23 turnovers, and gave up 11 steals

pp’s knee and rondo’s all around game are the stories, but gabe did ok. what i like is the 6’3’’ —he brings which is a good contrast to the rondo waterbug. and he played good d. perk does foul, but does not get a whole lot of ref respect.

I think we got signs of a good combo guard
Glad you brought it up, Gabe is an X factor this year if you give him the chance. If we take on PJ or Mutumbo let’s shift Cassell down a couple more spots on the bench (figuratively, of course – I think he’s helping Pruitt and maybe even Pat get their IQ up)

so did Rondo actually dominate Williams as much as it seems?
Sorry. its just that Wiliams is a top 3-4 guy. Rajon has been doing this more on more. he is no C.Paul, yet, but its an awesome sign

Williams is still recovering
Dec 14 G Deron Williams finished with 17 points and 11 assists in 34 minutes Saturday [against the Howard-less Magic] but complained afterward about still not being able to take games over due to his injured ankle.
But yeah I agree, it’s a good sign. Still needs a dead-on J within the arc and major improvement on his FT’s to get to the all-star level though.

excellent 1Q, average after that
turnovers – 23 turnovers; cut that number to 14 and the C’s win by 25 (plus 4 baskets for the C’s, minus 4 baskets for the Jazz); rebounding was good; Rondo played well, but 6 TO’s and didn’t get Ray involved enough; Gabe’s D was near flawless; his 2 fouls on B Knight were excellent D and should have been non-calls; not much from TA and Leon – give Utah credit for packing the paint; Scals at -5; he can play spot minutes, but I’d never play him with a five man 2nd unit – the team totally bogs down; Perk and KG both excellent; there’s no way I’d go anywhere near Antoine or Stephon Marbury; they aren’t needed; no D and bad locker room karma; still think Gabe can play the D we need on 2nd unit and is another 3 pt. shooter; should be another good test for him against Flip Murray on Wed.; team has no needs at this point other than Mutumbo or PJ

Pruitt silenced his critics
No character issues, great outside shot, pesky defender esp. on bigger PGs. Put him in the rotation already. =)

More updates on Pierce
link.
Celtics forward Paul Pierce said after tonight’s game that he probably wouldn’t need an x-ray on his left knee. Pierce left the game with 31 seconds remaining after Jazz center Mehmet Okur fell on him. Pierce walked through the locker room after the game without a limp, and with a smile on his face.
“The knee kind of buckled,” said Pierce. “I should be alright. I iced it in the back and I’m able to put weight on it, so I should be alright.”

When Rondo & Perk plays well qoute?
Anyone remember this qoute? “When Rondo and Perk plays well, we are unbeatable” well that happend tonight and excuse me but we did look pretty beatable in that game against the Jazz.
Just thought i might throw that out there’ for some discussion as it raises the question weather we need more than just Rondo & Perk to play well to truthfully be unbeatable (as if Pierce, Ray and Garnett is automatic)
My own opinon is that if you add the Bench to that qoute, then it would be absolutly true!

Perk
Thanks for mentioning Perk. He came up big again with some tough plays at the right times. And he did this while being handcuffed by the refs with some very inventive foul calls. We were beatable because of the turnovers and bad officiating. Just the turnovers should have beaten us, but with Utah playing with 5 players and 3 refs there’s no way we should have won. Everyone is saying how great Rondo was, but there was just no rhythm to the offense (his responsibility), after the start of the game, and the defense gave up lots of easy baskets. It seems that teams are starting to take Ray out of the offense, but I’m not sure we made any attempt to free him up. Despite all that we come up with ways to win. I’ll take that. I forgot to say at the start that I agree with your original premise. It takes the whole team to win. I don’t know who made the quote you refer to, but the Coach and players constantly say it takes everyone. “Ubuntu” couldn’t be more true.

its amazing how great Perk has been so far because he didn’t have much of the offseason to improve his game so i look forward to him getting better as the season goes on. also a little worried about ray the past couple of games he hasn’t really been involved in the offense mostly standing around like he was last year

Yeah, people were overreacting with Ray Allen being back to “the true ray allen” I clearly remember him having good stretches last year, and right now he’s back to struggling, that momentum he had going is gone

Wow
The Jazz are unbelievable hackers. I can’t believe Brevin Knight only had one foul called on him; must be nice being a little guy and being able to get away with that kind of reaching in.

Realty Check on Officiating
Krilenko had 2 fouls in the 4th quarter on entry passes to Paul where he hit the ball. Those gifts resulted in the C’s getting the penalty with 7:39 remaining in the 4th.
When did the Jazz get into the penalty? That would be NEVER! C’s get 20 ft’s to only 4 for the Jazz in the 4th.
Lol!
And some of you are complaining…
