Will Sam ever see the floor or become a coach this season?

Sam Cassell seems to be providing Danny Ainge with some roster flexibility as well as some unofficial coaching.  I suspect that unofficial coaching may become official by the trade deadline, thus allowing Danny the flexibility to sign a free agent and make a trade.

Star-divide

This arrangement is a win/win in that it allows Sam to be with a terrific team, ease his way into the realm of coaching, and make a little more money as a player.  It is good for the team because of the aforementioned flexibility.  The Celtics have an insurance policy if someone goes down, they have some experience and added locker room leadership, and roster flexibility if they need to "cut" him (and make him an official coach) when they want to add another player via trade or free agency.

I doubt he ever sees the floor this season as a player.  Unless... if there is an injury to Rondo or one of the other guards as the season wears down, then Sam will be brought back as a player.

Do any of you have a different take?

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Sam

That’s what I was thinking, too….buy we are in a minority.

I think a lot of this issue depends on our lack of success supplementing our bench deficiencies.

Makes the most sense to me. House has pretty well solidified himself as the backup 1, and it would be nice if they can keep spoonfeeding Pruitt some minutes so he can be more ready should an injury occur. If they’re comfortable with those two as the backup points, cut Sam to bring aboard another big man, and if an injury happens later on in the season, THEN you think about letting loose POB to bring Sam back onto the active roster.

Unless, of course, they can find someone who liked Giddens enough to slide them a first rounder, but I think that’s the third most-likely scenario.

Im annoyed with Sam, I was all for him coming here last year, but cringed literally everytime he touched the ball..they re-sign him but hes made no attempt to build the on-floor chemistry with the team, which was clearly lacking last year
