What ever happened to the crackdown on flops?

Does anyone else out there remember this article that came out last year during the playoffs detailing the NBA's abhorance for flopping and their promise to rid it from the game by cracking down on it by imposing technicals and fines and possible suspensions for it? Well whatever happened to that because I haven't heard of a single case this year of a player being fined or T'ed up or anything for this act.

And here' the problem, it hasn't abated the propensity for some players to do it and completely fool referees. Last night's Oscar worthy performances on several occasions by Marco Belinelli not only was responsible for several unwarranted fouls on Ray Allen but also completely took away any momentum the Celtics tried to muster in the fourth quarter when the Warriors were making their move to take over the game.

And this hasn't been a one time occurance. In the Laker's game the worst of the violations happened when Pau Gasol, a man who is 11 inches and 70 pounds larger than Rajon Rondo, hit Rondo squarely in the chest with his right shoulder when the two collided and Rondo went straight down to the ground as if he had been knocked out like a boxer and Gasol, in his haste to get his own Oscar nomination in bringing attention to the fact that he was fouled(and he was, I am not arguing that fact just demonstrating the theatricality with which some of the most reknown floppers will go to to demonstrate to refs that they were fouled), suddenly was thrown back 5 feet in a spinning, "Oh My God I Was Just Shot With A Shotgun", "Everyone Please Look At How This Man Half My Size Just Utterly Destroyed Me" type of flop that some of the non-American players have perfected. It was embarassing. It was the equivalent of Jerome Bettis lowering his shoulder to run over Randall Gay, maybe the slightest CB in the NFL, hitting Gay squarely in the chest and suddenly acting like he had been run over by a Mack Truck.

Manu Ginobelli is back to his old tricks. I've seen Andrea Bargnani run some of his garbage out there recently. I find the practice distatsteful and an insult to the game. I always have and I don't like it when our very own Leon Powe attempts it either, though to his credit he doesn't act as if a man half his size just kicked his ass to the point where he has to flail and grimace while he is doing it.

Please, NBA. You had a great idea that you have completely igmored and now the same old garbage is starting all over again. Stop it! Stop it now before it's too late and such acts start becoming responsible for determining the outcome of playoff games.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Hmmm...

even big dudes like Shaq and Amare continue to do it. The-most-hated-Celtic-ever, bill lame-beer should be in the hall-of-shame for being the guy who introduced this to the league. BTW, did you see the act put on by AK47 on irk Nowitzki? That was so lame. And Fisher, he needs to get kicked in the nuts to make him stop his flopping. And can please someone please tell Leon Powe to quit the flop, too and let those players run to him like a brick wall. Back in the days, you flop on Chocolate Thunder or Maurica Lucas, they’ll definitely take you out of the game. For life!!!

Hahaha,

I didn’t mean to make Mr. Lucas feminine sounding. I meant Maurice.

Bellinelli was run over and through several times. Those were not

flops in fact the Celts were getting most of the calls all night long. Beidrins got hacked all night long. What is amazing is the whining and the fact that the warriros did this without any of their big three, Monta Ellis, Corey magette and Jamal Crawford. Can you imagine. The Warrios would have won by 30 if they had their best players playing. Let see the Warriors, were playing CJ Watson undrafted NDBL, Anothony Morrow undrafted NDBL, Marco Bellinelli, 2nd year player, wow… and the game wasn;t even close. Can you imagine the carnage if the Warriors best players played?

Obviously

you are a Warriors fan just trying to stir the coals and see what fire you are going to create. That’s fine. The Warriors won and deserve credit for taking advantage of some of the worst play the celtics have exhibited since the Atlanta series last year. But I was at the Celtics game vs. the Warriors at the Garden when all your big name players were there and GSW got there butts kicked when the Celtics played a very mediocre game.

Maggette, Crawford, Jackson and Ellis are amongst the four most selfish, all about me players in the league on one team and they all are bad defensive players. If they were playing and the Celtics played like they did the Warriors still win. If they played and the Celtics only played as well as they did when these two teams met at the Garden in Boston, the Celtics win by double digits easy.

But none of that, the results in Boston or the results in GS change the fact that Belinelli was moving around akin to a fish out of water every time someone so much as breathed on him. Be at least a little impartial and look at this objectively. Belinelli, like a ton of Euros playing in the NBA have been taught from an early age how to flop and how to over react so as to illicit a responce from the refs.

it’s okay. Leon Powe does it too. But Powe is a bit more subtle in his overacting and it isn’t as obvious.Belinelli’s flopping is embarrassingly obvious and should be fined and punished for considering the insult he is portraying upon the intelligence of the referees.

Beidrins had a couple of back to back calls go against him. Rondo was the recipient of a couple of bail out calls. But Belinelli was flopping all night long.

Bittersweet

The Warriors win over the C’s was bittersweet for me.

And don’t they visit the Warriors every year in Feb., not December?

Biedeins got ripped off on a few calls, no question. Other than the one by KG in the 4th, Marco drew at least five offensive fouls that were flops. If a player is running by or trying to establish post position and lightly touches your arm, thats not an offensive foul and it shouldn’t cause you to fall over.

I’ve done an exhaustive internet search and haven’t some up with one instance or even a hint of a story about the NBA fining a flop or even reviewing flops for fines.

Just more lip service by the NBA in the off season to clean up a problem that never gets cleaned up.
