Cassell "Snag" And Other News
An NBA source said yesterday that Clippers owner Donald Sterling does not seem interested in buying out the final year of guard Sam Cassell's contract. Cassell's agent, David Falk, has given the Clippers a deadline of Saturday to complete the buyout so the 6-foot-3-inch, two-time NBA champion would be eligible for another team's postseason roster.
Another NBA source said free agent guard Brent Barry, who cleared waivers yesterday, is still considering Boston. Barry also is considering the Spurs, but he can't re-sign with his former team for another three weeks. The Celtics are also believed to be interested in free agent guard Flip Murray, who cleared waivers yesterday.
Danny, just say "no" to Flip Murray.

Donald Sterling is a jerk, this is why his team is a veteran of the lottery process!

I really don’t understand why more GM/Owners don’t have the same stance. If someone wants to leave to play for a contender or isn’t happy in the situation, let them go…and leave the remaining money on the table.
With that being said…lets hope Sam does that quickly and hops on the first flight to Boston!
I would much rather have Sam then Barry. I have never really been fond of his game other than his 6’7 height at the guard spot. I mean with Cassel you get more than just him backing up Rondo for insurance. In the 4th quater of a tight game you can go with the lineup of KG, Truth, Ray, Cassel and Rondo together.

Donald Stern has always been a miserly owner. Look back to Ferry and Manning… Not sure if it will work out with Sam I Am but, ESPN noted in its most recent rumors that Boston is still in the mix for Barry’s services. He’s a smart player and above average athlete, excellent shooter and good ball-handler who brings a lot less baggage to the table. FWIW…

Sterling is CHEAP! He’s also not necessarily wrong in this situation. He paid Sam to play for his team, so why buy him out to go play for someone else?
Maybe Barry is waiting to see what happens with the Cassel situation before making a decision?
As for Murray. Well, I feel like Danny should just toss a coin up in the air. Heads we get him, tails we don’t.
I pray to god Flip Murray is walking through those doors.

mcpu40-response from the other thread about Cassell…
Not hating on Sam personally at all. I don’t care at all that he hit Rondo in the head that game. I think I did that last night to a guy in pickup ball.
I think that 5 years ago that is a no-brainer. Today it isn’t a good gamble. In basketball years he is an old man (I hit 37 this summer as well) and he has lost 2-3 steps. He can’t play a lick of defense. He has been an almost star in this league and those type of guys, especially scorers, rarely can handle 10-12 minutes off the bench.
As far as the experience for the playoffs goes, the only way that helps us is if he is in there in crunch time. His defensive deficiencies make that a bad idea. Sure he may hit a bucket, but he also will likely give up 2-3 with his bad D that Rondo would not have given up.
I just think that for what you are getting, you are risking way too much. House deserves the minutes he is getting. What good does it do to have Sam score the same points House does? House’s D is a lot better on top of that.
That’s why I don’t want Sam. This latest news may make that a moot point.
Sounds like Barry has made up his mind to Spurs or Suns

This article does mention that Gordon Giriek could also be bought out, but I don’t have any interest in him.
I hope we get Sam!
