Blissfully Unconcerned
Guess which ESPN gadget I won't be playing with 30 times a day for the next 4 months. Guess which ESPN analyst I won't be online stalking (devouring every column he writes within minutes of its posting and posting dozens of questions to his online chats). Guess which draft site wasn't even in my browser history when I thought about it just now.
Sure, I'll think about the draft someday. Just don't bother me with it until the offseason. How good does it feel to write those words?!

With the team the Cs have and theif focus on the stretch run and
the playoffs, the Draft is a curiosity at best.

Until the playoffs this LULL and positional posturing by the Celtics comes close to resembling the “dog days of summer”. I guess a case could be made for how P.J.Brown and Cassell impact the Celtics chances for #17.
It’s not so much a case of boredom but simple apathy as it was in the 70’s when the Celtics were expected to win every game and usually did.
I do like to fantasize about prolonging this blissful state of peer dominance by the revitalized Celtics. We now know that the Pollard signing was a mistake and that beyond Perkins and the ageless PJ Brown we do have needs for another inside presence. Ditto for the PG position beyond Cassell as a backup.
For any dynasty to endure (ala the Patriots) the infusion of fresh talent is a must. So Jeff, while I’m enjoying the hayride with this year’s version of the Celtics and while I worry about our ability to keep this team intact and ageless in performance, I welcome the diversion created by the developing talent pool both here and abroad…and I like dreaming of the next great “wonder” wearing Celtic’s green!

It’s an interesting draft, though. Michael Beasley is the real deal, and there are quite a few interesting 7 footers, starting with DeAndre Jordan. Plus there are a number of interesting international 7 footers who may be there when the Celtics pick, including Ajinca,Ibaka, Erden, Asik, Jawai, Pekovic and Samardziski.
I think it’s time to put Clifford Ray to work to polish another young big man with potential.
