Eddie and Tony, Out of Rotation
Many wondered how Doc was going to shorten his rotations once the Celtics got into the playoffs. The answer so far seems to mean less of Eddie House and Tony Allen. Both are obviously frustrated by the demotions but they are trying to keep a supportive and positive attitude about it as well. See their comments in this Herald story.

While I understand Tony’s frustration, how could he actually expect to receive consistent minutes in the playoffs when he hadn’t shown consistency during the regular season?
I agree Who. If Cassell is back next year, House is gone, and who can blame him? I still love the Cassell signing and think he’s been fine in the playoffs. Everyone knew that House’s minutes would get squeezed with the signing of Sam.
These guys need to shut up. It’s hopefully a long haul to finals and they will both be needed. I can’t even believe either would make such untimely comments. Garnett needs to crack some heads.

Personally I have a problem with Doc not saying anything to these guys about the demotion, leaving them to get angrier and hurting our chemistry a bit. I mean, Doc is a people person and im sure if he talked to them he could ease their feelings a little bit. Not a huge deal but also not very encouraging.

It makes perfect sense to sit two key role players from a season where you have the league’s best record. House is playing the best defense of his NBA career and is playing well at a different position to fit in. Tony’s effort first coming back and getting better and better all year speaks to his determination to fit into a key role.
Sitting these guys makes about as much sense as it makes to have 4 of your 5 starters playing with 3 minutes left in a game that you’re up 20. The Doc Rivers lovefest will come to a screeching halt in the next round if he continues to show such brilliance.

Getting better and better all year? What?

House is playing the best defense of his NBA career and is playing well at a different position to fit in.
This statement would be plausible if the defense was suffering without House out there, which it’s not. So what’s the point there?
The defense isn’t going to suffer against a team with a washed up point guard and a rookie mid round draft pick as a backup. But chemistry might. And probably will.
If you don’t think Tony has improved from the beginning of the season in spite of inconsistent playing time, you’re not watching the games.

Crownsy…this is directly from the article
Both players have been left scratching their heads about the diminished playing time and said coach Doc Rivers hasn’t told them anything about why they haven’t figured into the mix.

The Playoffs are like another season. Allen and House will both find minutes at some point. this is nothing to worry about.
This is no team issue. This is the Media asking them questions about limited minutes and writing an article about it. Very lame. Chemistry is fine, Doc will talk to EH and TA.

i have been watching the games, and tony hasen’t been anymore consistent than he was at the beginning of the season. In fact he’s downgraded since his run of 6 good games 2 weeks before the all star break.
Im sorry to break it to the “we love TA crowd!” but he’s not a playoff ready player, at least not for longer than 4-5 minutes a night. Hes a human turnover machine.
This really isn’t a big deal. In the playoffs, rotations get tighter. The only difference right now is that this really isn’t a playoff series so much as a destruction of the Hawks by the Celtics. Still, since Doc elected to rest the starters at the end of the regular season, I can’t blame him for wanting to give them big minutes to get back into the swing of things.
Ultimately, who cares if House and Allen are upset? Garnett will keep the locker room in line. And forgive me if I don’t feel sorry for two grown men getting paid an extraordinary amount of money to play a game.
As to TA, even he said he hasn’t been playing up to Doc’s standards. As to House, I think Doc often works on a hunch and brought in Cassell first. It worked and he’s sticking with it for now. Cassell is able to sucker inexperienced players into fouling and defense or bringing the ball up quickly (things House is better at) seem not to be a problem in this series. I think we’ll see more of Eddie as the playoffs progress. But, the second unit had trouble scoring even before the playoffs started. House scores best as a spot up shooter. He doesn’t score as well when running the point. Cassell can create his own shot at almost any time.
Tony Allen will be brought in as a defensive stopper against someone like Rip Hamilton or Kobe. He is not careful with the ball, crownsy is right about that.
As for Eddie, I think he should get a rotation of 5-7 mins in 2nd Q and if he’s hot again in the 4th. Sam got smoked on D by AC Law. Eddie’s D is better than Sam’s. It is true Sam can create his shot. But so would many players if they, like Sam, had no intention of passing. He did score in game 2 but I still don’t like him over Eddie
