Ainge Is Exec of the Year
Well deserved and no surprise:
Celtics GM Danny Ainge has been named 2007-08 NBA Executive of the Year by the Sporting News.
The magazine polled general managers and executives from all 30 NBA teams. Ainge received 18 of the 47 votes cast, beating out Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, who had 14 votes.

Congratulations to Danny! A few here might pick on him sometimes, but glad to see the league recognizing a Celtic for the momentous changes he wrought this year.

ainge actually had to work pretty hard to make the deals he did. he deserved it. what kupchak did was impressive, but he didn’t work to get gasol…he stole him. i’m still convinced he had some scandalous photos of grizzlies management.

I recommend that Danny and KG are required to give back all their awards if we don’t win the series against the Cavs.

I am shocked that 15 voters could justify voting for somebody other than Ainge or Kupchak. What was it that Jeff Bower (New Orleans) did that was so special again?
If I was voting for third, it would have been Darryl Morey in Houston.
GM’s get judged on a couple of years work, not just the single season. Otherwise the number of candidates would be ridiculously small and the award would go to turnarounds over building the best team. Has to be that way.
Oh and I believe Bower got votes for their turnaround, Hornets had the second biggest turnaround this season I believe. Healthy players being the biggest difference. Go figure.
Bower made a great trade midseason and a good draft pick this summer. The Hornets bench was killing them in the first half of the season, those moves turned their bench into an above average unit. When I say killing them I really mean killing them, I don’t have the numbers here but they were losing a huge amount of points each night whenever they went into their bench. Their starters were destroying everyone in sight only to lose all their hard work when the bench came in.
