Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: Game 1 - Open Game Thread
The guys over at ROOMOFZEN recently sent me footage of KG's pick on Zaza Pachulia from game 7. This then sent me off on a YouTube tangent that eventually led me to a clip of people reacting to Kevin Garnett entering the league. And it's one of the best YouTube clips I've ever seen:
1. Isiah Thomas explains his ill fated plan to trade up for KG, enroll him in college and only let him play home games. You read that correctly.
2. Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, drafted one spot after Garnett, sounds off. He definitely says "rude awakening" at one point. Priceless.
3. Shawn Respert responds and throws around the word "bust". I was going to make some sort of joke but thankfully did a search and learned that Respert battled cancer.
4. Several other guys who are no longer in the Association speak as well.
This clip is relevant in Round 2 because it features two of the best players to ever jump straight from high school to the pros - Kevin Garnett and LeBron James. And while it's easy to get caught up in the LeBron hype (see my last 3 posts) let's not forget that the Celtics have their own superstar. Enjoy and go Celtics.

Tommy Heinsohn
So TNT has the sole rights to this game. But I noticed Tommy was still sitting court side at the announcing table. What is he doing? Just hanging out?

Rajon Rondo
So to start the game Dick Stockton said Rondo and Delonte West played a few seasons together in Boston. Not true. But later West said the same thing. Odd. Regardless Rondo is off to a hot start. Now he has to get everyone else, in particular Ray Allen, involved.

Remember the Tony Allen no dribble rule?
It seems as if PP has adopted a no pass rule. The teams unselfishness in the first quarter was unreal except for PP. He has got to pass the ball to Jesus Shuttlesworth on that fast break where he lobbed the ball out of bounds.

Pierce
If he were playing well Boston would be up big.

PP
Agreed.
As an aside that flagrant was awful, since when do the Cleveland Cavaliers get calls in THE BOSTON GARDEN during the PLAYOFFS. Sorry about the caps but I lack the eloquence to state my frustration without them.

LeBron
I’m not sure what Boston can do if LeBron just runs full speed towards the basket.

Yeah.
Thank God KG and Perk (on the boards) came up huge. And Cassel’s “shoot first, second, third, fourth, and fifth” feels okay when most of em fall in, like tonight.
