KG, Pierce are All-NBA

Marc Spears has the story :

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett today was selected First Team All NBA. Teammate Paul Pierce was selected to the Third Team.

Garnett is joined on the top team by NBA Most Valuable Player Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers Bryant, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets.

Garnett, winner of the 2007-08 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, led the Celtics with 9.2 rebounds per game to go along with averages of 18.8 points and 3.8 assists. In Garnett’s first season in Boston, the Celtics had the league’s best record (66-16) and enjoyed a 42-game turnaround from the previous season, the largest single-season turnaround in NBA history. This is Garnett’s fourth First Team selection. ...

...   The All-NBA Second Team consists of Phoenix’s Steve Nash and Utah’s Deron Williams at guard; San Antonio’s Tim Duncan and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki at forward; and Phoenix’s Amaré Stoudemire at center.

The All-NBA Third Team includes San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili and Houston’s Tracy McGrady at guard; Utah’s Carlos Boozer and Boston’s Paul Pierce at forwards; and Houston’s Yao Ming at center.

I'm a little surprised that Kobe was the only unanimous selection; KG got 118 out of 127 possible votes for first team.  Pierce received two first team votes.

Congrats to both. For Pierce’s sake, it’s too bad that two point guards and two power forwards were selected to the second team. Had they been more specific (PG, SG, etc.), I think he would have definitely would have been selected to the 2nd team. Only Kobe and Lebron were above him at the SG/SF level this year.

I agree pepper-youre not putting nash and williams on the floor together either, and neither of them ever play the 2. Pierce is definitely NBA 2nd team, and he is that much more valuable because truly great 3s in the NBA are few and far between.

As for KG, people must have either put Duncan in at PF or maybe even Amare. No real slight there, but it comes down to a person’s true position.

How on earth was Paul not a unanimous selection at guard???

Wow… just looked. Two voters thought Steve Nash deserved it over Paul, and one voter awarded TMac his first place vote. What a joke.

I’d say Pierce should be 2nd team over Nowitzki…. we finished 15 games better than Dallas; Pierce’s all-around game was more valuable than Dirk’s IMO.

Yeah Pierce definitely should’ve been second team over Dirk and how did Chris Paul not get unanimous for first team?!

Also interesting how Detroit wins 59 games and gets no one…

I would have liked to have seen Pierce on that second team but it’s hard to argue those choices (Duncan/Dirk). I’d have rathered Duncan at centre for the first team and Pierce in instead of him in the second team with Amare bowing out to Dwight.

How on EARTH did Pierce not make the second team? Their most be some racist voters out there coz Dirk didn’t have nearly the kind of season that Pierce had. Dirk only got named to the second team because he is white

i have no problem with any of the picks-that is some array of basketball talent-top to bottom. that first team is as balanced as any and would give any historic firsts a run for their money-congrats kg and pp.
