Celtics Grounded
As of 4 p.m. EDT today, the Celtics plane is still on the ground in Los Angeles due to mechanical issues with the plane.
Celtics guard Ray Allen, who left immediately after last night game due to an illness with one of his children, is expected to play Tuesday night in Boston. His child is expected to be OK.
UPDATE: At 5:30 p.m., Celtics radio announcer Cedric Maxwell reported on sports radio WEEI that a 757 airplane has been flown in to take the Celtics back to Boston on a direct flight.

An NBA team in 2008 doesn’t have the pull to make alternate arrangements?!?
Mark Cuban would have hired someone in no time.

As of 6:23 EDT the Fakers’ airplane is 35 miles north of Boston on initial approach. They have to board a bus, check in to a hotel and sleep in strange beds. They are just 3 1/2 hours ahead of the C’s. The C’s are just east of Vegas at 37,000ft in a bigger, faster airplane than the one that broke down. If all goes well, they will land at Bedford at about 10:15 pm. There bodies will be on LA time, so it will feel like 7:15. By the time they get to their homes, around midnight, they can unwind, go to bed and get a good 8 hours sleep before they have to get up and prepare for a game 12 hours later. They’ll be ready to go.
pretty sure this is the Lakers’ plane here

Swift Air is the charter the Celtics use as well. No sign of any 757’s for Boston taking off yet at LAX. They won’t be back here until well past midnight at this rate.

Not sure where FatKidsDad is getting his info, but if accurate, then no real problem IMO. The problem for the Celts is who is going to play center Tuesday night, who will get the most playing time at point guard, will Ray Allen be ready to play, and how will KG react to all the negative pub he has been getting of late.
It has been a while since we played at home. I think some of us have forgotten what a positive it is to play at home in front of our crowd. This should help out a lot.
FatKidsDad do you have the link to the Celts’ flight on flightaware?
Just heard Boston tower talking to the Fakers pilot. Said: “If you need any help from us filing a flight plan back to LA tomorrow night we’ll be happy to oblige you.” Heh.

Boston Logan airport is a big commercial airport east of the city. You have to fight through traffic and go through tunnels to get downtown. Depending on traffic and weather, anything from 10 to 45 minutes. Hanscom Field is a general aviation airport in Bedford 12 miles west of Boston. It is about 10 minutes from Waltham, where the C’s have their practice facility. Most of the players live within a fairly small radius of Waltham.
Isn’t that what happened to San Antonio after the NO series?
