First title I will remember…man it feels good. What a team, what a game!

I’m 28 and this is by far the greatest moment of my life! Some would say that is a sad fact, but I don’t really care at the moment. I love you Celtics! ;D

by WelcomeToRondoism on Jun 17, 2008 10:46 PM EDT reply actions

It’s over! It’s over!! It’s over!!!

It appears the Celtics strategy for winning the NBA finals was straight out of Colin Powell’s war strategy in the first Gulf War. Here’s what Powell said at the time:

“Our strategy to go after this army is very, very simple. First we’re going to cut it off, and then we’re going to kill it,” Powell said, while also promising to “rip up the {Iraqi} air force in its entirety.”

This was a total annihilation of the LA Lakers. Phil “the Zen master” Jackosn had no answers. Kobe the league MVP hd no answers either. Alas they were dealing with a far more superior team, indivdually potent, yet ubuntu-ed to the hilt, moving in unison with laser focus on the goal… Utterly destroy the LA Lakers with blistering and overwhelming force by cutting them off and killing them dead (figuratively speaking, of course)!

What a victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing to see how far we’ve come in just a year! I’ve enjoyed the past few years on this site, but this year has clearly been the best. Thanks for providing a place for some stuck far away to keep up with the team, Jeff.

by Jeff Clark on Jun 17, 2008 11:32 PM EDT reply actions

This answers all questions and doubts that everyone had at the beginning of the year!!!! Yes they can all sacrifice, Yes Rajon can lead this team, Yes Perkins can be our starting big man, Yes our bench IS good enough. This goes out to all those who doubted!!! #17 IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ray played great in the finals but I am so glad to see Paul get the MVP. He deserves it for all those bad years.

Can’t wait for next year!!! Have a great Summer!!!!!!

I think I need a drink.

no words can express…

by Jeff Clark on Jun 17, 2008 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

I’m crying. I can’t believe it! Ray with all those threes, one after another, a new Finals record! Rondo, he’s so young but he’s so damn good, stripping Kobe again and again.

The Boston Celtics are NBA Champions; Banner #17 is going to get raised. I still can’t believe it! I wish this could last forever.

I’m sooo happy. I’ve been with the Celts since I was an unhappy undergrad at Brandeis (i transfered). The only thing I liked was sitting in my room and watching the Celts and smoking cigs. I stayed with them through all the bad years. This is the greatest. Go Celtics! I’m so happy for Paul, KG, and Ray. Honestly, especially Paul – he’s been here forever. LOVE. CELTS. YES!

No. 17 is so sweet. God bless Red.

by Wicked Messenger on Jun 18, 2008 12:23 AM EDT reply actions

22 long years… I really didn’t know if it would ever come again. after the deaths, pitino, etc.

It feels weird, but Red saw it through… many of us were here last year during the lottery and thought Red would deliver us the first pick. Instead he is up there watching NO. 17!

What a friggin turnaround… not just this year, but for the last 15 years. We “BEAT LA!”

Re-sign Posey. His defense of Kobe was total.

Knew we needed a good game from Rondo and he was amazing. Never saw so many steals

What a year. Definitly got my money’s worth.

I moved from Mass. to Texas during the summer of ‘86 (just before the C’s beat the Rockets). Needless to say, it has been a long 22 years for us diehard fans! I wondered at times if I would ever see the 17th banner hung from the rafters. Congrats to the Celtics on Championship 17….and to all the fans who stuck with them throughout the years!

by OKC Celtic on Jun 18, 2008 1:23 AM EDT reply actions

Thank you Celtics. This was a wonderful season. Wow, I’m still in shock… we killed the Lakers! That was great. Let’s do this again next year. WOW.

This feels unreal. After the debacle of Don Gaston and He Whose Name Must Never Be Spoken (the Louisville coach), I was convinced it could never happen again. It just seemed like my team had become poison. I would remain forever a fan, forever frustrated, forever let down.

Now this. Wow. I was shaking.

Thanks to Celticblog and all the loyal fans for sharing your love for this team with me. Thanks to you, even as I was stuck here in L.A., I felt like I was part of this, not just watching on TV. Thank you … and enjoy the feeling!

Amazing!! Couldn’t have scripted a better season. Being in Istanbul, I was too excited to sleep. I finally put the game on at 4am and I’ve been almost as hyped as KG. It’s going to be a rough afternoon at the office, but it was totally worth it.

Thanks Jeff and co. for making this time all the more special.

Surreal and discombobulating at the same time..
So many hard years, such a hard road to get to this point.
My heart is with the family of Reggie Lewis #35

Supremely satisfying it happened this way….

This one’s for Red and DJ.

by DJ to Bird on Jun 18, 2008 6:29 AM EDT reply actions

Doc Rivers simply put emphasis on the most ignored basic principle of basketball, great offense wins games but great defense wins championships!

by stml8 on Jun 18, 2008 6:40 AM EDT reply actions

There was a time when I wasn’t sure when we were ever going to win one again. And even when I thought we did, I wondered if there ever would be another time when we could call that championship a classically Celtic team. The kind that carried itself with pride and class. The kind that stressed rebounding and defense, and an overall selflessness. The kind that commanded respect.
It’s one thing to win No. 17. It’s another thing entirely to win with this bunch, most particularly a re-tooled Paul Pierce who (especially in the playoffs) did just about everything I’ve been accusing him of NOT doing.
Thanks for proving me wrong, Danny. I’ll let you mortgage our future after all. Maybe those trades weren’t so bad after all.
It’s great to win, but it has meaning when you win with this bunch.

by Big_Easy on Jun 18, 2008 7:25 AM EDT reply actions

this team was great from day one-focused-selfless-spirited-and unified. a great tribute to the leadership potential of the human race. and we were witnesses and in our own way, scribes. whoopie.

by nazzbo on Jun 18, 2008 8:16 AM EDT reply actions

The new Big Three got theres. Congratulations to the entire Celtics team and coaching staff on winning the series. Boston is a brotherhood. I think everyone felt and witnessed the special bond and comradeship this team had all season and through the finals. Amazing win and a fitting end to a storybook season for this team and franchise. I was 8 years old the last time we did it….and it never felt this good. Congratulations Boston, thanks for the memories I will cherish and never ever forget! Go C’s! “ONE MORE! LET’S GO! ONE MORE C’S” The road to 18 starts today!
