Around SBN: L'Equipe Claims He's Coming To Chelsea On Five Year Deal

Secret Weapon?

Tony might be making a quicker comeback than we thought.  Can he help with Kobe?  Bulpett reports:

The biggest news out of today’s session was the return to full duty of Tony Allen. After injuring his right Achilles’ tendon area in practice last series, Allen didn’t dress for the last two games.

It was feared he would be out for The Finals, too, when he couldn’t finish yesterday’s workout, but after an MRI showed no problems, he was an active participant today.

Allen is key in this series for his ability to dog Kobe Bryant. If he is healthy enough to do that, it gives the Celts an extra top defender to put in the mix.

If we are depending on Tony Allen in any way that means trouble…

I think he could annoy Kobe but generally, I’m sure Kobe would do to TA what he does to everybody else.

I think it’s a bit late to go to TA at this point. I’m sure he has a confidence problem and I don’t think this is the time to play around. His defense hasn’t really been that good all year anyway.

I don’t see how it matters. When Ray is not in, Posey/Pierce should be on Kobe. I don’t see why Tony would play in the first place.

Judging from the comments so far, I guess it’s not good news that we have another availble back-up defender to call upon against Kobe.

I suspect we will see alot of Tony in this series, more than we have in the prior series. He is the only one who can somewhat contain Kobe one on one, keep a hand in his face on his jumper.

You know what we need right now? Some Justin Reed action…

No seriously, I like the concept of insulting Kobe by sticking Ray on him initially and trying to break him out of the triangle by playing on his ego. But if that isn’t working, it has to be Posey. The only time Tony Allen should get any burn is when we’re up 30…

Ray guarded him pretty will during the 2 games this season. But it’s not about Ray or Tony or Pose, it’s about the TEAM.

It’s funny how all the Tony Allen “naysayers” – (where is Steve the Blogger? with his “brainless” comment) know more than Doc Rivers!!!!

Doc has said that Tony has had some success shutting down Kobe and didn’t know what the CELTICS would do without him….

But, I guess you all know better about Tony’s ability – hmmm

Kobe can’t stand people who actually guard him, close-up. He got a technical by pushing at Desmond Mason (another Ok State grad that is quick) because Desmond had no problem keeping up with him and fouling if needed.

Kobe is a prima donna that expects people to give him space and let him shoot how he wants. Can’t stand people to actually get into his “personal” space..

So what if Tony gets burned a few times? Kobe doesn’t average 30 points a game on his good looks alone. The fact that he can annoy Kobe enough to get him out of his comfort zone is more than most players in the NBA can accomplish!

I’m pretty sure that you guys can check some stats of Tony guarding Kobe – versus other players – and you’ll find that Tony shuts down Kobe more effectively than his teammates do…
