Is Tony Allen Done Here?
The Celtics did not offer Tony Allen a qualifying offer, so he's an unrestricted free agent. That means we will not have the right to match any offer he gets. I'm sure the team wouldn't mind having him back at a reasonable price, but only after all the other free agency matters are settled, in particular James Posey.
In other news, it sounds like PJ Brown is leaning towards retirement (but won't rule out a return) and it sounds like Sam Cassell is looking at other options.

Wise move Danny. Kind of funny how the longer it has been since he got playing time the better he was before he played himself out of his minutes. 2 guards who can’t dribble, turn the ball over frequently, can’t shoot from the outside, and have very poor basketball IQ aren’t hard to replace at all. I don’t see this being a difficult replacement at all. In fact, I see Pruitt being able to fill in just as nicely this coming year. Or Giddens, or Walker. One of those can’t be much worse! And cheaper. TA had potential, but his injuries basically killed that. Thanks TA. I hope someone gives you big money elsewhere.
The reality is, TA is still considered “Damaged Goods” to all G.M.‘s out there and because of that, no one will want to sign him! Just look at this past draft or recent history, G.M.’s do not reward injuries. If G.M.’s signed “Damaged Goods”, they would be sending a terrible message to their fan base. Imagine a G.M. having to explain how they could only attract a “Damaged Good” free agent to their team. Basically, they are stating, no one wants to play for us and all we can do as an organization is sign an injured player…imagine the repercussions of that message to the season ticketholders?
TA, lucky for us will probably resign with the Celtics, esp after this organization stood by him when he had his troubles in Chicago. He also probably has a sense of not accomplishing everything he thought he would with the Celtics. Therefore, expect to see TA in our lineup again.
hahahahahahhahahahahahahaha….what other “options” would sam cassell be looking at.

Sam’s other options are:
TV Commercials for “Icy Hot Packs” for those moments when you just can’t get off the bench one more time to ask the Coach to let you go in the game and start shooting ….or…..
Ben Gay Ointment Commercials …..for those special moments when you actually do get in the game and immediately jack 10 shots up in less than 2 minutes and your elbow starts to hurt.
Retire Sam….you have a face perfect for TV Commercials
Tony Allen was a victim of the numbers game (both financial and depth chart wise) – nothing more, nothing less. As far as a market for him – It’s tough being an undersized 2G with a history of major knee injuries. At one time, I thought he would be Paul Pierce’s replacement. Now, I can only wish him the best out there.
If we don’t sign Tony Allen again – I take back everything good that I’ve said about the Celtics management!
If you are upset that he’s hurt and can’t guard Kobe all of the time – (that’s Kobe that usually averages 40 points – but with Tony on him 20 ) – then it’s idiotic to let him go on the OFF chance that you can find a defensive replacement.
ANYBODY that Coach Sutton coached will be better defensively than 99.9% of the players out there – and Tony HURT is better defensively than 99.9% players out there! Desmond Mason (another Sutton prodigy) is the only one that compares.

I’d like to see Tony Allen leave for the good of his career. He can be a good player in this league and it just isn’t happening for him here in Boston.
It’s a fine decision by Danny not to make the qualifying offer.
I want Giddens to be Tony’s replacement but if Danny looks for a veteran … James Jones tops my list.
The coaches know better and Tony sat the bench during the playoffs many times when his skill was needed. Its all abut who shows up – good Tony or bad Tony and they have decided a spot on the bench requires consistency. Intriguing player but probably time to start over somewhere else. Not too many of the guys we’ve let go in the last few years have gone on to prove us wrong
PJ’s got to come back, man, he’s got the get another ring.
