I’d like to point out in the Tulsa World article about Tony Allen – it said that he was “present” at the riot.
BTW, living in Stillwater, I can guarantee you that the parking lot at Whataburger wouldn’t hold 300 people, anyway….and there was no riot – just a fistfight.
The police at the time was trying to get more funding – so we had a “gang task force”, etc. – which is a hoot in this town of 50,000 with 24,000 being students.
The riot was a fistfight between OSU athletes and Langston University athletes over a bimbo and the term “sell-outs”. Langston is a predominately black campus (fairly poor) about 20 minutes from Ok State, which is neither poor nor predominately black. There have been battles for years between the two populations and Tony just walked into the middle of it.
He’s a great guy and Boston needs to sign him.

In fact, to add to above – I can actually think of a fight between four guys (two of which were also black) – no weapons – no windows being broken – just a fistfight in an empty parking lot – AND it was also termed a riot at that time.
If you can be convicted of rioting in Oklahoma, it is a felony (or was at this time, anyway)- where a fistfight is just a misdeamenor – so if you have a town where there is some racism in the DA’s office/police dept – then you will see “riots”.
