Ainge Comments On Miles
The Portland Tribune has a story on Ainge and near the end there was a comment on Darius Miles. This isn't really breaking news or anything, but I thought I'd go ahead and give you guys more to argue about after a morning of talking about Starbury. Yep, its the offseason!
Ainge won’t make major moves during the offseason. He would like to re-sign Posey, a free agent, and took a recent look at ex-Blazer Darius Miles, as did both Phoenix and New Jersey. "Darius’ talent is there, and his health is better than we were led to believe," Ainge says. "We’re going to continue to explore that and some other options.

Not for nothing, but this is from Wiki-
Miles missed the entire 2006-07 NBA season due to microfracture surgery.1 He was averaging a career-high 18.2 points in the first 15 games of the 2005-06 season before the operation.
Miles also missed the 2007-08 season,1 and in March 2008, the Portland Trail Blazers petitioned the NBA and the NBA Players’ Association to provide an independent doctor to decide if Miles would be able to play again.4 Following the examination, it was determined that the damage to Miles’ knee was severe enough to be classified as career-ending, prompting the Blazers to request waivers for his release. However, Miles does have the option to sign on with another team if offered.
According to the Boston Globe, Miles has been working out for the Celtics.
;D ;D
Well Nazzbo, let’s compare apples to apples. LaFrentz and Ratliff had big contracts, and Theo doesn’t really count because he was acquired with an eye towards trading his expiring contract and a bunch of youngsters for a star— and the rest is history.
Olowokandi and Pollard were signed for the minimum. In the worst case you could waive one of those guys to reclaim the roster spot. No big deal.
The real killer was LaFrentz, a player Ainge acquired to play basketball, not as a trading chip. The bottom line is that the first Walker trade was absolutely lousy for the Celtics. Ainge was new to the job and far too anxious to dump Walker. He got fleeced by the Nelsons.
As in the case of Tony Allen, both Doc and Danny said that it takes a year to fully recover from knee surgery. Thus a one year contract for Darius Miles would hardly be beneficial to the Celtics.
Formerly micro fracture surgery did portend the end of a basketball career but surgical techniques are now more sophisticated so that type of surgery no longer predicts (with certainty) the end of a career.
One has to wonder as to what is missing when a player has a high degree of talent and disappoints on the production side. Production should not be solely measured by offensive statistics but rather on the whole player concept where defense weighs as important. Other yardsticks include BB IQ, whether the player makes his teammates better, good citizenship etc.
One hopes that Danny is either looking for a specific piece to complement our team or that he feels Darius could respond to better coaching. I doubt if either alternative would prove fruitful if Darius is being considered for a only a one year contract.

I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s not like Miles will be signed to a long term deal. Probably non guaranteed at the minimum. If it doesn’t work out, they can cut him no problem. Similar to Patrick O’Bryant.
I don’t understand why people get upset about these potential signings. You can’t compare them to Raef or Pervis for that matter because they are not long term and probably only partially guaranteed.
Small forwards who only want to score & can’t/won’t play D are a dime a dozen. I’d love to be wrong, but I doubt DMiles amounts to anything but an end of the bench guy.
If Ainge somehow let’s Posey get away, I’d go after Matt Barnes. Similar scrappy defensive player, can hit corner threes & will do all the little things. Plus he’s younger and has DWest-style random tats.
Posey is going to the Hornets. I have no inside information but I don’t see the Celts matching one more year! It was nice having him on board but I don’t see him coming back.
As far as Eddie House! In my opinion, although some might disagree I think Bill Walker may supply the spark that house did this season. I also love the Marbury idea so long as KG gives the nod.
Goodbye Posey I’ll miss the defense. If any of the Big Three begin to bitch I’ll be pissed. All of them are max contracts which is why it is tough for use to fill the bench with quality.
Richard,
I’m glad you mentioned Walker as I never hear any mention of him helping next year at all, only Giddens. I think Walker has the better shot to be a big time player than JR. he’s got the pro body already and just needs to gather experience. Total agreement on the bench. I’d love to have everybody back too but it doesn’t work that way when you have 3 max contracts on your hands.
