What's Next?
James Posey is gone. Longhorn raises a good question. What's next? Great question. I'm going to think about that. While I do you should too. More tomorrow...

I will miss Posey but it was a good move
I think Ainge was smart not to offer Posey more than 3 years. Posey could have helped the Celtics win next year but what about after that? At that point he will be 33 and on the decline. The celtics only have a 2-3 window (from now) to win again. Even 3 years down the road is not likely. So to have Posey around that long doesn’t make sense for the Celtics. Danny made the right decision.

I guess
It’s tough to evaluate because he was a big part of a championship team. He had his moments against the Cavs, Pistons, and Lakers. And given his minutes per game I don’t think it’s crazy to think he could contribute for a while. For example it was only recently that Robert Horry became detrimental to his team. Of course that’s a lot of money for those minutes. But if the Celtics aren’t able to adequately replace him the window could close earlier than expected. Hopefully I overrate him.

Free Agents
What about Matt Barnes or Quentin Ross? I dont think either would take the full mid level and both are unrestricted free agents.

Of those 2...
I like Ross. A while back I got the scoop of him from Clips Nation
“Thank you for asking about Q. I was not aware that anyone outside of LA (and maybe the SMU alumni community) knew he existed. I have very little idea what is going to happen to Q. I think organizations can be pretty emotional with their free agents. Sometimes they become attached to someone and overpay to re-sign him – other times they’re just tired of the guy, and let them walk when the right basketball decision would have been to keep him. Q has always been a favorite of MDsr, so I’m guessing the former is more likely. Unfortunately for Q, he’s had a horrible year shooting the ball (during a season when the Clippers needed more offense from everybody, not less). He’s at 38.5% for the season, and recently finished a stretch in January where he missed 21 consecutive shots. It was, as you might imagine, brutal to watch. So it’s really hard to gauge his value on the free agent market. I would think a team like Sacramento (he’s held Kevin Martin to 3 seasons worth of bad games) or New York (Jamal Crawford scored zero against Q Monday night, before going off against other defenders) would at least understand how good a defender he is. But he’s a bad offensive player. Really, really bad. Anyway, my guess is he stays with the Clippers in the 3 year/$7M range.
The offense scares me a bit but he’s a phenomenal defender. And the Clippers aren’t even known for defense. At the same time the Tony Allen buzz is starting to pick up. Caught if from Marc Spears on TV last night and Steve Bulpett on the radio today. Ultimately I’m okay with where the franchise was is heading.

Tony Allen
I really hope the Celtics resign him. He has a very good player (1 or 2 All Star games) potential. Next Year he should start feeling 100% confidence in his knee. I agree, I like where the C’s are headed as well.

Tony Allen
If the price is right they should bring him back. But he still makes me nervous, especially when he dribbles. And I still think he needs more minutes to be productive. He’s definitely not a situations guy.

Agree
but he should be getting more minutes if Doc does the right thing and limits Ray’s minutes. I took a quick look at the available unrestricted free agent swingmen and it is not a pretty sight. Juan Dixon? Bonzi Wells? Kareem Rush? Devean George? I’d pass on all of them though I did love Dixon at Maryland.

Juan Shining Moment
Dixon is one of those guys I liked a lot more in college. By the way I was thinking that with the changes in the roster I’m more concerned about how many question marks the team will have. As it stands I feel confident in what the starters (Ray Allen, Pierce, Garnett, Rondo, and Perk) bring to the table as well as Leon Powe and Brian Scalabrine. Unfortunately with Scal it’s not as positive. But after that I don’t know what to expect from Giddens, Walker (if he signs), O’Bryant, Pruitt and to a lesser Tony Allen (if he returns) and Glen Davis. How many projects/high risk, high reward player can a team have. We’re watching the make up of this team, which was to be expected. And it will be interesting to see how it plays out from here. As a side note I don’t have much interest in Dixon and company either.

Why panic?
Who have the Celts lost? Posey, Yes. They have not lost House, yet. PJ Brown was not on the team to start the season. I dont believe he has retired, YET. And Cassell, who cares. So if i am correct, the Celts need to make up for the loss of Posey. I think that happens. Ainge still has the full MLE at his disposal and a some point you have to start counting on the young guys. What about Josh Childress as the new super six man? Could the Celtics steal him?

Jim
What changes in the roster? sorry to repeat my post but i dont understand what you are concerned about. Posey, ok, Ainge can replace him. Who else are you concerned about?

You're Right
In the off season I tend to talk way too much about the bottom of the roster. Last year I spent a good amount of time talking about Brandon Wallace. But the core is strong and that’s what counts. And there where points last season where I felt like the Celtics had to get younger. Overall I’m not panicking. I like where the team is headed.
