Last James Posey Post

Even though I recognized that I was overrating James Posey's value to the Boston Celtics I continued to write biased posts/comments about his departure. I guess that's what fans do. With that in mind it's worth checking out what John Hollinger and Kelly Dwyer had to say about Posey's new 4-year deal. Here's a hint - neither one saw the contract as a boon for New Orleans.

Patrick O'Bryant

From that Kelly Dwyer article:

Patrick O’Bryant

Signed by the Celtics in a great move. Every time I saw this guy last year he looked solid, he just turned 22, and has a good run in limited minutes since his foul-happy first year with Golden State.

Because O’Bryant was drafted by the Warriors before Don Nelson came on board, Nellie couldn’t take credit for him, and never took to him. Pity, because he has skills and put together some good numbers down in the NBDL. He’ll come cheap, he’s the same age as Jason Thompson and six months older than Roy Hibbert, and the skills are there. Now he needs the minutes.

I should have mentioned that

I was happy to read that. He touches on two of the reasons I liked the O’Bryant deal – Nelson can be hard on big rookies and loves small ball. So that’s good. At the same time I’m not sure how much time POB can expect. Hopefully he buys in and develops.

Posey

who’s going to replace Posey, i cant believe we didnt sign him, he was such a big success to our playoff wins with big threes and most of all his defense. i dont think we woulda made it all the way w/o him

I felt the same way

But that’s a lot of money over 4 years. If they use that to bring back House and Tony Allen or bring in somehow else who could make an impact I understand. That’s how teams stay good in the NBA. They pay their stars and then fill in everybody else.

posey

posey is great it’s sad to see him go cause he’s been a big part of our success, but your right that means house, tony allen, even pj brown will get more time and need to step up.

Actually...One Big Out There

Alonzo Mourning. If he wanted to come back for the veteran minimum I imagine Danny Ainge would at the very least be intrigued. In limited time he’d block shots. And between House’s swearing and Zo’s yelling/glaring KG would have plenty of competition.

zo?

zo’s all done, we need kendrick to get better and big baby needs more playing time, zo would just interfere in that. Also would interfere in pj browns time

I'm not saying I want Zo to be a Celtic

But from what I’ve heard he wants to finish playing on his terms after an injury last year. Meanwhile, PJ Brown appears to be done.
