When Kevin Garnett is your PF, you can have undersized guys like Powe and Davis play backup center.
Those 2 guys really played pretty well in that role all throughout last year and shouldn’t be written off as sub-standard pf’s.
For a playoff run we will need more length up front (to matchup with D Howard & Z Illgauscscs) -- but at least for the regular season we have the depth we need to be patient filling our last roster spot.
I am still holding out hope for PJ part II, but in the meantime I have the great confidence in LP and BBD at backup center. Name another backup C that produces like Leon Powe and has a ring to show for it?
THANK GOD
I was getting pretty tired of people saying we should sign this guy. We never had a chance at him and he probably wouldn’t bring much more than Big Baby Davis will this year. The only advantage he has is experience.

I myself thought he was redundant in this team, though I really like him. We need a different type of big man… someone with actual size for example.

mcpu – Spurs had to get more athletic in the role players, but do not be fooled — as long as Timmy, Tony and Manu are there (2 are still very young, and no coach manages minutes better than pop) the Spurs run will continue.
This year, their role players were slow and Manu was hurt … the Lakers played great, a recipe for losing. If he was healthy, they’d have been a much sterner test for us in the finals.
Thomas is miles better defensively than either Powe or Davis, and can legitimately guard post players (which Davis can, but Powe not so much). As recently as 2 years ago he was playing 25 minutes a game for the Suns. The Spurs got Thomas for virtually nothing, he is a perfect fit for their offense because he can defend bigs and nail the 15-18 footer, which perfectly complements Timmy. Spurs will never not be a factor as long as Timmy is healthy.
