Monta Back In the Oaktown Fold
Baron Davis may be gone, but there is no doubt the Warriors will continue to play an exciting brand of basketball. That truth was only further cemented on Thursday.
Courtesy of a Warriors press release:
The Golden State Warriors have re-signed free agent guard Monta Ellis to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have Monta under contract for the next several years," said Mullin. "He has been one of the top young players in the NBA for the last two years and enjoyed a tremendous season last year. The growth that he has demonstrated at such a young age is incredible and we look forward to him playing a big part in our future success."
For those outsiders who root for Monta with far less concern as to what happens with the Warriors as a unit, it's going to be a blast to watch this guy becoming even more of a featured presence in the Warriors' offense.
As dedicated reader nazzbo will likely happily testify, Ellis can fly up and down the floor with virtually anybody in the league. He isn't much of a defender, but he has startling quickness and a wonderful ability to not only get to the rim but to score with contact despite having a rather slight build. Though he doesn't shoot the three much, he has become a very soild mid-range jump shooter, and he doesn't mind sharing the basketball a bit either.
This was a signing the Warriors had to make, and I'm glad to see it taken care of. With Nellie, Ellis and Stephen Jackson in the fold once more, the Warriors will fit many labels, but boring assuredly won't be one of them.

Is it worth it?
Maggette 5 years $50mil? In comparison they got a bargain with Ellis. I thought their agent would really throw the hammer down on the Warriors organization, especially since the Warriors had hardly any choice but to resign Ellis after all they’ve just had his coronation as the Warriors Franchise Player and future of the franchise. I’m really surprised their agent didn’t get more out of them.
Overall, good deal? Not great but it definitely acceptable. I thought they would have ended up paying more for potential than they ended up doing. Ellis is close to being worth that contract already and in considering his upside …. in two years that deal has a good possibility of looking very good.
