Gomes Stays With TWolves

ESPN Reports:

The Minnesota Timberwolves' post-Kevin Garnett frontcourt continued to take shape Friday when they reached terms on a new contract with restricted free agent Ryan Gomes.

Gomes' agent, Bob Myers, told ESPN.com that the sides have agreed in principal on a "multiyear deal" that is expected to be formally signed next week.

Terms were not immediately available, but Gomes will soon join forward Craig Smith and guard Sebastian Telfair as players re-signed by the Wolves this month to join a new-look Minnesota core featuring Al Jefferson, Randy Foye, Rashad McCants, Corey Brewer and draft-night acquisiton Kevin Love.

Also, a quick scan of HoopsHype tells me that The Machine is staying in LA, Maurice Evans is going to Atlanta, and CJ Miles is staying in Utah.

it’d be neat if they made the playoffs this coming season, somehow.

The NBA seems headed toward NFL style sanity on payroll. Luxury tax, and the rules re MLE etc make it a less of a “GM’s gone wild” league (Except of course the inept Knicks). Posey getting the 4th year was an indication that the market is open and fair but there is a lot more restraint than in past years.

It’ll be a lot more restrictive if there is more than just Donaghy implicated. It won’t have much to do with the salary cap. The credibility of the league goes in the toilet if there is anything to all the phone calls to Foster. The very thing that built the league (star and situational calls) may be the thing that brings it down. If anybody else is implicated, watch attendance figures and TV revenue. It’s probably a good thing that these guys get contracts now.

Ryan seems like one of the league’s good guys. He was a good Celtic and he got Scal money. Even though he actually produces something on the court to go with “intangibles”.
