Thank You Leon Powe

POWE!

I don't know how many times I yelled that reflexively during Celtics games, but suffice to say it was a lot.  Leon Powe is like a shot of adrenaline to the flow of a game.  He's the cup of espresso that jolts your morning into 3rd gear.  He's the proverbial bull knocking over shelves of china as the shopkeeper weeps in a corner.

I love watching Leon Powe play the game of basketball.  Bodies twice his size seem to be discarded and displaced when he's zeroing in on a rebound or loose ball.  Give him one step near the basket, and the ball emerges between 2 or 3 outstretched 7 footer wingspans and finds its way into the basket.

Doc may occasionally grumble about his defensive rotations and he's not exactly tall, but his immediate impact on games often leaves a lasting impression.

He's the definition of "character" and an inspiration because of his life's story.  He somehow manages to be an unsung hero and a fan favorite at the same time (he wasn't well known around the country until game 2 of the Finals).

And he's only been in the league 2 years!  Can't wait to see what the future holds for Leon Powe, but I'm very thankful for what he's done already.

Thank you Leon Powe!

I hope that next season, now that he’s a semi-high-profile rotation player on the NBA champs, he’ll start getting some respect from the refs. That would yield another 4 foul shots per game.

I loooooove Neon Leon!

I SECOND THIS THANK YOU IN PARTICULAR.

Leon is a gem; he is precious to the fans and, I believe, to his own teammates.

Keep it up Leon.

Leon Powe is quite possibly the toughest guy in the NBA.

Just having this guy at practice everyday raises the games of everyone around him. Championship work ethic and demenour.

I really hope Danny keeps Powe for the length of his career.

I still haven’t stop laughing from the game in the finals when he brought the ball up the court and made a B line for the hoop and just cramed it down and not a single laker rotated to even slow him down. It was one of about five dunks in a row! HA HA HA HA HA, that was just delightful. Thanks leon, you big truck!

Someday, Leon will win a 6th Man award. The youts around here are just great. The first time I saw him play(wasn’t it Summer League), I knew he feared no-one, and was going to play hard every single minute.

I boldly predict that Leon Powe will have a breakout year next season as the first big off the bench. He is a highly under-rated player. He could even garner MIP honors next year. He now has the experience to go along with the toughness, plus tons of confidence made even larger by being an NBA champion. He plays “taller” than he is due to his tremendous wingspan.

Mark my words, he will have a big year. We will be comparing him to Charles Oakley.

Thing I love most about Leon is that he always, instinctively, knows where the hoop is, and he has great hands — two underrated skills.

Good to see Master Po came around to my way of thinking ;D

Other than the three-point shooting, I think Leon Powe could and just might become the Celtics’ sixth man. He has the grit and the defensive toughness of Posey, but no 3-point shooting. He doesn’t need that, he proved he can score 21 pts. just by muscling his way to the basket. Another thing, we’ve got EDDIE HOUSE!!! back, one of my favorite Celtics players. He too has defense and can hit the three, we’ll be fine.

Leon Powe truly embodies everything that makes a true Celtic. Rising above all media-fabricated) odds and digging deep down within your soul to come through for the team to win. He would have made Red proud.
