Everything's Coo
Rondo is back to blogging after a summer break. Some highlights:
As soon as we won and the parade was over, I had to fly to Louisville. I had to catch the last day of my first camp... I actually missed being honored at the Red Sox game with my teammates because I had to be at my camp.
What's next.....Vegas. After my second camp, I went to Vegas with some of my teammates. During the season, we had said that we would go on a trip together if we won the championship, and that's exactly what we did. We only stayed for a couple of days, but it was nice to just chill and not have to worry about playing.
After Miami, I went down to Houston to chill with Perk. He had a party down there, and me and my girl went down for the weekend. We had a good time. I hadn't seen Perk since the ESPYs, so it was good to catch up with him. We didn't do much...just chilled really. The party that he had was coo. I think ima go back down there before the season starts.
Last week, I was in Boston. I went to Boston after I left Houston and stayed for a week. I mainly went to work out. I hadn't picked up a ball since we won, and I figured I needed to jump start my training. I just went and lifted and shot by myself for the most part. I needed to see what shape my body was in. Btw..I'm in pretty good shape.
Good to hear. Ubuntu lives on!

So “last week” he started working on his shot? He waited a month and a half before he started to work on his shot? That’s very surprising, and frankly disappointing, to me. A jumper is something that needs repetition to improve. I would think he would have taken more timet this summer to get those repetitions. Of course we still have a few months before training camp, but it still surprises me that he’s waited this long to start practicing his shot.
Time to work on that outside shot now everyday. That’s what the good ones do to become better and what the better ones do to become great- work on your weakneses- jump shots my man.
You should be shooting jumpers like Michael Phelps practices swimming.

Great shooters don’t take 6 weeks off. Truly, how long does it take to shoot 100 jump shots (less than 1.5 hours) I’d guess and perhaps less than 1 hour. I doubt that Larry Bird ever took that much time away from shooting. But then again, there’s a reason why great shooters get that rep.
What you do on your own time off is a direct reflection of how good you want to be. Some settle for mediocrity others strive for mastery. Perhaps Perk has a hoop in his yard and Rondo failed to mention just how they spent their “coo” time!

I think we should be a little careful about taking things a player says on his blog as the full and complete truth. I mean, do we really think he literally didn’t pick up a basketball given how he mentions he ran two basketball camps in Kentucky? Possibly Rondo is understating the work he put in because he’s trying to convey a certain persona. Possibly he was told by the training staff to take some time off, given the enormous jump in his playing time this past season. We don’t know, and I’d suggest we shouldn’t be quick to judge when it’s obvious that we don’t know.

I’ve read a few statements like this about several of our players. Just sticking to Rondo for the moment. He played an extra quarter of a season with games almost every other nite. He hurt his ankle in the playoffs. He took some really hard hits during the regular season and playoffs. It was also a tough season for him mentally with the responsibilities he had and the learning process he was going thru. For argument’s sake I’ll say he shouldn’t be allowed to have some fun during the summer. But give this guy and every other member of the Celtics a break. They need to get their bodies healed. Then they can work on their basketball. I think it’s good for them to get away from basketball for awhile after what they’ve gone thru. I don’t think any member of this team, except for the draft picks (who don’t know how to prepare for a season) will be ready to go at training camp. I read something the other day about Ray Allen, who’s also taking time to let his body recover, isn’t sure of how he should prepare for the upcoming season. He’s never had the experience of playing so many games and such competitive ones.

The Celtics haven’t even received their championship rings yet and fans are complaining about the team’s work ethic. Incredible.
With all my gibberish I think this says it best.
