Mike & Paul Follow Up

I only got to hear a portion of the Mike & Mike appearance by Paul Pierce this morning, but it sounds like it went well.  Red's Army has a bullet-point review and shares this info about Paul's arrest:

He also talked about the Vegas incident.  He joked that he was pulled over by a Lakers fan and was charged with DWC: Driving With Championship.  That was the line of the morning.  He went on to explain that he was driving home after a boxing match and trip to the casino.  He was pulled over for failing to signal a turn… and cuffed because of his intimidating size (which is what the cops told him).

Can you really cuff someone for being big?

standered police procdure, and in my mind justified.

they general ask “imposing subjects” if they don’t mind being restrained. you have to think about it from a saftey aspect, what if the pulled over a 280 pount 6.9 guy, didn’t cuff him, and he suddenly turned violent?

then you go from “sorry we had to handcuff you sir” to “sorry i had to shoot that person for my safety”

i should add, in some places. in miami, where my uncle is a patrol man, you ask if you can while you deal with the vehicle (remeber they thought pierce was drunk at the time) to ensure your saftey while your attention is divided.

if they refuse, you call in another cruiser so the second cop can babysit the suspect.

Anybody remember that guy from the Bronx that was trash taling Boston Sports! Why did they put a hater on

that was a joke…it was hier producer doing a fake voice.

That’s pretty ridiculous. There’s no reason to ask a guy to leave a car for failing to signal. If the cop never pulled the guy from the car, he wouldn’t have any reason to worry about his size.

unless you turned your back to the car and he stepped out. you always pull out suspects you think might be under the influence.

rather have an inconvience than a repeat of what happened a couple years ago in georgia, where the cop did follow somethign similar what your saying, the guy stepped out of his car quietly when the cop turned around to walk back to his cruiser, and beat him to death after jumping him from behind.

turned out the guy was high on meth. at least they caught him because of the dashboard cam.

sounds like potential racial profiling by the officers. they pull over a black guy, late at night/early morning, with a nice car for not using a turn signal….then cuff him due to his “size”.

I WONDER if they mentioned the JIMMY FUND drive?

It’d be neat to get a National Plug for that…

Interesting how he didn’t comment on being under the influence. If I hadn’t been drinking at all and knew the story mentioned this as why they pulled him from the car, the first thing that I would have done was state clearly I hadn’t been drinking, or at least the amount of alcohol that I had consumed. i.e. “I only had a glass of wine with dinner”. The fact that he made sure to minimize every other part of this but not even address the alcohol seems a little funny. Plain and simple it wasn’t a very smart thing for him to do, but at least it seems to be less of an incident than at first. I just wish these guys would be smart enough to use some of those millions to get a cab or a limo or something.

Great lines by Paul, but here’s what should have been the follow-up to I was cuffed because I was big. I’m lucky they didn’t order me to drop my pants, I might have been jailed for life!

He actually did address the drinking issue. He said he hadn’t been drinking and driving, that he knows the implications of that and would never do it.

He was pulled over for DWB (just a guess…they do have that reputation)..Paul is too savy, at this point in his life, to bring it up…I thought he did a great job today..I was surprised by his knowlege of Tennis, Football and Baseball ( he is a Sox fan)..he also gave some fashion tips for Mike..Wyc and Ray did a good job as well..
