Paul Pierce Cuffed and Released
This post was originally titled, "Is Boston's 2009 Season Doomed?" But that seemed a bit too reactionary and over the top. Still it's never good to read about a team's star player getting pulled over at 3 in the morning, cuffed, and then released. In Vegas no less. My question, why was he pulled over in the first place? Meanwhile, it's important to keep in mind that Pierce was not arrested and simply went on his way in a cab. Still this is not the type of story I want to read. Thankfully no one was hurt. In closing it will be interesting to see if this becomes a huge story over the next couple of days.
[Update: As if the best player in the world thing was not a big enough story already. Hopefully The Truth's off season settles down from this point forward.]

a couple things
1) Pierce passed the sobriety test, which is huge. But, as you said, still not a good story.
2) Exactly how long have Paul Pierce and Sam Cassell been in Vegas? Is this some kind of Fear and Loathing 21st century style project? Are they in search for the American Dream? Have they taken up residence there? I clearly remember seeing pictures of them on decks judging wet t-shirt contests and getting massages. I really think that was a month ago. I’ve never had the pleasure of spending time in Vegas, but from what I understand one week can really mess you up. To me, that is the biggest bummer about this story. As soon as I heard this story on the radio, I just imagined what spending a lot of time in Vegas would do to me. If the effects are the same on Pierce, we could be screwed.

I’m pretty sure Pierce actually lives in Vegas in the off season. I vaguely recall that being the case back when Gary Payton joined the squad and they worked out at the summer some. That’s the biggest reason I haven’t overreacted yet. Pierce lived there for at least the past few years and he’s come into camp in fantastic shape. But I can imagine this being a story if he comes out of the gates slow in the upcoming season.
In this case the Cassell in question was Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell. Although the first time I read that article, in particular this quote, “Cassell said Pierce was not arrested” I thought, “What is Sam his publicist now?”

ah yes
As strange as this sounds, you making that Cassell distinction makes things much better in my mind. As soon as I saw the name Cassell I just saw those pictures of all of them partying last month and assumed it was Sam. This is much better because Cassell has been trying to sabotage this team ever since last April, and hearing that he wasn’t involved makes me much happier. It also means that Pierce was not extending his bender with those guys.
So really, this could just be a case of a guy who was on his way home. The cuffing is bad, but he passed the sobriety tests so really it isn’t much or a story. A cuffing without being taken in is not an arrest. For all we know this cop could be obsessed with Pierce and always fantasized about cuffing him. This is Vegas, anything’s possible.

Who hasn't been cuffed in Las Vegas for 15 minutes?
Seriously, this is just a stripper story gone wrong.

I can see that
But this is a stripper story gone wrong. Pierce just needs to go through his routine and be ready to defend his “greatest player in the world” proclamation.
