Marbury To Be Released
Stephon Marbury may be in shape physically to join the Knicks on the court, but the Knicks might finally be ready mentally to part ways with their chaotic point guard.
The Knicks are preparing to put Marbury on waivers by the end of the week, several sources with knowledge of the situation told Newsday. The team must await the go-ahead from Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, however, because it would involve eating another large chunk of money in a buyout, Newsday reported.
Will Danny have any interest?
(yes, this is a blatant attempt to generate discussion out of nothing)
(no, that picture isn't recent)

We could really be the team of 2nd Chances “Marbury” “Tony” “Darius” would be cool though we could go small off the bench with Steph Eddie Tony Darius and Powe or baby

It would be better than signing Cassell. I think KG can keep his head on right. It would be worth a shot.

You guys would regret it if you signed him. Maybe not “horribly regret” it, but I think you would regret it nonetheless.
On the flipside, the unintentional comedy could potentially be off the charts!

Regret? not sure, since the Celtics would not be responsible for his salary and also he would be here for 1 year, unless some other team ridiculously gives him a contract.
So much depends on where his head is and if he’s maturing or regressing in his professionl life. I remember him first coming into the league thinking wow this kid has talent and he talked so fondly of Cousy
Maybe the Celtic lure/prestige might rub off him the same way it has many others when putting on a uniform. Granted I’m reaching here knowing how today’s players just don’t give a crap and sometimes all you need is a swift kick in the butt.
My feeling is that Doc would be able to handle Marbury because he has the backing of his players. Our atmosphere is so different here than in New York, maybe he just needs to get the bleep out of New York.
He has a load of talent, but if he can’t be controlled than I don’t want him on this team
I’m pretty sure that he wants the latter of what Mon was referring to.

To a small extent, Sam Cassell wore me out everytime he played with the Celtics last year. With every shot attempt he took, far more so than with any other Celtic, I found myself questioning whether it was or wasn’t one he should’ve taken. It was tiresome.
Now if Marbury were to join the Celtics, he’d probably exhaust me in a week, not to mention Doc.
Thumbs down.
Please no. I don’t like rooting for guys like him… :P

We wouldn’t want no kidding to have to go through that kind of torment, so Danny please consider this before signing him, very important factor in the decision making process. Just like Sam, Starbury would be expected to provide some punch off the bench. People tend to remember things according to their own pre-conceptions, like Posey only in the playoffs, not the offensive ineptitude of the second unit for long stretches last year during the regular season. Nobody could create their own shot, they were all spotting up, but with nobody to penetrate and kick unless the Big 3 were on the floor. Sam did NOT play primarily with the Big 3, ignoring them and selfishly chasing his own shot, Doc encouraged him to shoot when he was out there with the subs, the options to score were few and far between with that unit.
If Marbury was able to accept a lesser role, which would be spelled out clearly before signing him, he could do what he does in few minute spurts. By and large, most people are analyzing him from what he has been, a starting PG who plays 40 minutes and has been one of the best scorers on the teams he has played for recently. Projecting how that Marbury would fit with the C’s misses the mark, he would not be asked to shoulder that load, so again IF, and he won’t be signed otherwise, he was willing to be a hired gun to help the bench with some much needed penetration and scoring over the long season so the Big 3’s minutes can stay reasonable, he could help the team for sure.
I would say no to Marbury. He’s a good player but not the type of team player we need. he would also be a bad influence on the young guys.

One thing I always liked about Marbury is he gets a lot of points attacking the basket, that’s a bonus for any team.
The thing is, Marbury stopped attacking the basket, and settled for long jumpers his last few years in New York. He got too comfortable making the easy money, and his teammates came a distant second.
