Roster Shakeup w/ Bulls
It's obvious that we need some more production from the bench, but also a little flexibility with how we start the game. It would be a weapon to be able to have a couple different starting lineup looks, especially once the playoffs start and we find ourselves matching up against different sized teams in multiple-game series. I think the only way to do so is, unfortunately, trade one of the big-3. I believe Ray Allen would be the easiest because of his large, but soon expiring contract that will provide flexibility to a teams cap.
The Bulls are one of those teams who seem to have loads of talented players who either aren't being used properly within their system or just are simply unhappy and uninspired by their current situation. The trade I am proposing allows Chicago more flexibility to re-tool through free agency next year, and hopefully gives us enough of a shake-up and re-distribution of ability to our lackluster bench. Would this trade work for you all, and also Chicago?
Celtics Trade: Ray Allen, Leon Powe, Jr. Giddens, 2nd round pick
Bulls Trade: Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas
We then hopefully sign Marbury at the vet minimum, and all of a sudden we have a wider variety of weapons, who are obviously not as consistent as Ray (the clear cut best player in the trade). We get more size off the bench and a player who KG and Thibs, and Clifford Ray could morph into an all-NBA defender in Tyrus Thomas. He can be so intense at times, and would feed off our teams positive energy (and his friend Big Baby). I think the same goes for Gordon, in that he needs a change of scenery.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

i would do that trade in a heartbeat
and i guess this would set the bulls up better for the 2010 offseason with noccioni of the books but i just don’t know if they’d do it

oh and then we could do scal and TA for joe smith..
and then be
Perkins/Thomas/O’bryant
KG/ Joe Smith/ Big Baby
Pierce/Noccioni/ walker
Gordon/House/ giddens
Rondo/Marburry/Pruitt
although i don’t think this could ever happen, i would love it if it did

not sure
Not sure If Chicago would do it. They really like Thomas and Nocioni, correct? I think they would prefer to move Noah. A lot of reasonably priced talent being traded away here for simply an expiring deal
Our bench has gotten to the point of being so bad that I think I would do it for Boston though. That is only if we could extend Ben Gordon at a reasonable price (less than 10M per year). We’d need these draft picks to start filling out a roster soon with a lot of salary going to just a few players too. We’d have 76M committed with Pruitt as our backup pg and Thomas our only viable backup frontcourt player.

Forget Gordon
He’s contract stated “non tradable” if im not mistaken. He sign for just one year.
And im not taking Gordon over Ray Allen.. Even im completely drunk and wasted…

So you want to trade the one guy that is holding the Celtics together?
Ew. Maybe next offseason, but mid-season, no.
Not that it’s a bad trade, but chemistry wise, it would kill.

holding the celtics together?
how well is he “holding us together” if we’ve only won 3 out of 10? can it get any worse?
its certainly not a bad trade, but i also wonder about chemistry. i just feel like we cannot win a title with our bench as is, unless they happen to get really hot come playoff time, but i’m not willing to roll the dice on that. we need a trade or preferably a signing. the prospect of thomas and nocioni on our bench is appealing

If I were Chicago I’d definitely do that deal ….. but not if I were Boston.

Not a Celtics fan but I really agree
To me it looks like you are trading hustling defenders for streaky offensive production. If you are overhauling the Celtics to be a different team entirely, then this makes sense. But the championship team making rebuilding moves?
Rivers and Jackson are right to insinuate that true playoff contenders would rather use their regular season games to work on team weaknesses rather than trying to win at all costs.
The OP is correct that the Celtics bench needs some flipping and it may take a big three player to do more than a patch up job. Ray would be the one to go too… Lets hope Ainge can do better than that.
If you need more convincing not to do this, then head over to Blogabull where you can learn all about these three guys!
As a side note, is there any way that Boston could make a Marbury settlement worth it to New York? It seems like New York is serious about being good after a couple of years. Some sort of give and take might make them more willing to help the real Mecca of NBA B-ball. We’re not dealing with Thomas anymore remember!

Ty Thomas = Awful
I won’t even get into the thought of trading Ray Allen becaue a vein is sure to pop in my forehead, but why in the world would we want Ty Thomas. We are a championship caliber team competing for a title and you’re talking about dishing out a hall of famer, and involved in the deal is someone who might be good some day? If Danny did that he’d be the worst GM in the game, oh wait, better yet he’d be Kevin Mchale.

If there's some players need to be move
it will be on the bench guys alone.
There’s no wise GM would touch and trade one piece of his main core.
Trade idea is best if your playing Fantasy Basketball, but not always in real basketball.
If i will do trade, ill choose from bench, they can use BBD,Walker,Giddens,POB, even TA and Powe “IF” there will be a decent player that could be added. I mean Big that have a perimeter shooting and can defend, if they can find that then dont hesitate to use TA & BBD + the 2 came from DLeague, and hey dont forget you have another valuable chip name Eddie House..

And Forget about Chicago..
Unless that you are getting from them is DRose & Hinrich. The rest of the rosters are all garbage (sorry, but watch them play by yourself). I dont know how they become NBA players and earning millions. Boston Bench are far way better than Bulls Roster without DRose & Gordon, at least Boston bench knew the word DEFENSE..

I don't like that trade at all
No way would I trade Allen, especially mid-season.
I don’t think we should make any major changes. I think we just need to add a couple of solid role players and we’ll be fine.

Thanks for all the responses guys; I felt a little icky at heart even thinking of possible trades that included any of the big-3 who just brought home a championship. The thing is, last season I felt without question that there was no team that could beat us in a 7 game playoff series. I don’t want to say too much of anything that we already know (as far as how last season went down and our rounded bench production, yada yada), but here’s the deal about right now. Imagine the season ending right now, today. We are currently the number 3 seed; was there ever any point last season where we were not the frontrunner?
The point I’m trying to make (which I believe a lot of Celtics fans now feel) is that the competition has made some serious leaps forward through roster adjustments, and we didn’t even totally stand pat, we regressed as far as depth is concerned. Sure our starting five is playing even better together when they are all on the floor, but who exactly is our sixth man? Please don’t say Eddie House, or Powe, because that’s just scary. Unfortunately it is reality; so yes, the trade I proposed is reactionary, but the feelings of confidence I had when thinking about entering a seven-game series with the top tier of the Eastern Conference are all but lost.
We were totally blinded by our hot start and that over-hyped streak. Have you all taken a look at the teams we beat during that strecth? Most of them are pretty bad, and many of the solid teams we beat (Houston, Cleveland, Detroit, Portland) either hadn’t had their sh$% together due to their own off-season roster-shakeups, or they are no longer the same team on paper. And look at what 3 of those 4 teams did to us the second time around.
I believe that the main reason Danny traded for Ray was to lure the “Big Fish”. Well now that we have the Big Fish, he’s happy, the whole team is playing with intensity and heart still, isn’t it smart from the managerial perspective to then move that same piece when it is at its highest value (still all-star calibur, and now expiring contract)? Maybe this trade isn’t the exact one to improve our roster, but we should all be in agreement by now that SOMETHING needs to be done, more than just Marbury (if that even happens) and that dangling our low trade-value bench pieces isn’t enough either. Sucks.

I really dont think that it’s necessary to Trade Ray Allen.
Let them fall to 8th seed and then try again to convince us that he need to be trade..
