Coach Doc Rivers believes in the Orlando Magic.
"They're winning games, they're winning them on the road," Rivers said before yesterday's contest. "I think the national public is finally waking up to them. Last year they had the second- or third-best road record in the NBA, as well. Right now, there's nobody in the NBA playing better than Orlando."

Hard to argue after watching them defeat the Lakers on Friday. While it wasn’t a dominant performance, it was impressive. Jameer Nelson’s shooting at the end was fearless . . . and more to the point, deadly. Wow.

“Thruthelookingglass”, re the performance against the Lakers and your “dominant” comment, you have to remember they came off a huge win in San Antonio and then set a NBA record for 3s in Sacramento, then played the Lakers with, what, something like 15 lead changes and as many tie scores, and without letting down from those victories and highs, ended up beating the Lakers. Then, after arriving at 400 am in Denver, beat Denver the next day, all on the road, and 3 of 4 against division leading teams. That whole trip is what makes it impressive, not just the Lakers game. It shows mental tuffness to stay that strong through all those highs and road games, as well as skill. It is no longer a 2 team race in the East.

It’s easier to be playing the best basketball in the league when none of the other contenders (Lakers, Celtics, Cavs) are playing well (by their own lofty standards).
