Paul's new toy

So about  a week ago Mike Gorman was teasing (and flattering) Tommy Heinsohn about his "record" for most shot attempts per minutes played in NBA history.  It came down to an ungaurdable sweeping, running hook shot that would either go in or not but could not really be stopped.  It was the bail out shot.  Anybody remember this?  They showed video of him doing it down on the right baseline.  Tommy said he was trying to teach it to somebody, Big Baby, I think.

Then last night in the Miami game Paul Pierce goes into this methodical, paint-by-numbers set up down on the right block for.......an ungaurdable hook shot.  He did it twice and hit them both and seemed to have real nice footwork, control of the ball, and vision on the shot, the latter being the most important part - he could see the basket just fine while doing it.  He even seemed to be trying to find ways to set up for that shot throughout the game.  He missed one from just inside the free throw line on the right side in traffic.  But wow, would I love to see PP add that shot to his bag, not an unctrolled Alonzo Mourning jump hook, but a slow and deliberate set up where the body is perpendicular to the defender creating tons of space and he just raises up his right side in an old man basketball kind of way and nails it.  Everybody can laugh and tease him all they want when he is 10 of 12 from the field.

I love this guy.  What an amazing thing for him to do at this time in his career.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

He did grow up watching the 80’s Lakers after all. And I doubt he felt like we did when Magic crossed the lane and …… no, I can’t write it.

Give 'Em The Hook...

Tommy loves the hook shot! He even had a biography titled Give ’Em The Hook and it was a good read for any Celtics fan.

Pierce had this mischievious look on his face each time he made that hook shot. He seemed to enjoy getting that shot to go down especially. Maybe Tommy have him one of his famous talks on the flight down to Florida. Tommy, uncharacteristically, was broadcasting a road game.

I do miss hearing Cousy during these Florida games. Bob would usually come out when we were in his backyard.

The Cous

I’m not surprised that Tommy came down to Flori-dee in this cold.

And I completely agree with chicagogreen about the hook shot. Simply marvelous a player that far along in his career can add that and moreover one can see him add it effortlessly to his bag of tricks. I sincerely hope that hook appears again, and I bet it will. Good job tying in the Tommy call too. Certified Hall of Famer, the Truth.

Paul Pierce has all the great moves…if he gets that hook shot going down consistently that would be AWESOME! just another move in his arsenal

Its amazing to see Pierce adding something to his already deadly bag of tricks. Steve Smith on NBA TV called him a technician in the paint. Its a great way to describe him he just gets to work out there and his versatility makes him is so hard to stop.

the old man's move

i’m 25 but everyone i know calls my game old school. i have the little hook shot myself, and since i can hardly move anymore, i take it quite regularly. the guy who always defends me hates it because he cannot guard it. you can tell if someone’s going to time it for the block and just upfake, step thru for a layup.

if pierce gets the little hook shot down (like al jefferson for example) he will be nasty until hes about 40.

God bless and good night!
