Ainge Called Reggie (Again)

Ainge does like to look under every rock doesn't he? (via the Globe)

Former NBA shooting guard Reggie Miller admitted earlier today on the Dan Patrick show that he received calls from both the Celtics and Cavaliers this season asking if he would be interested in playing. The Lakers' Kobe Bryant also told Patrick that Los Angeles would extend an invitation to Miller to play for them this year.

I think Danny places a high value on great outside shooters, especially in an offensive where Rondo is so good at penetrating and kicking out, and where KG is so good at finding the open shooter in the double team. That is why he pushes for guys like Reggie and Reddick (yes, I believe that Ainge was probably interested in him, although I hope he would not have given up Pruitt and Walker for the guy).

We need another three point shooter????

What we really need is for Tony Allen to play like Posey or pack his bags. He is either hurt, in foul trouble, or turning the ball over. I like him but I was hoping for much more. I say keep playing Walker, Pruitt so they can contribute in the playoffs – Walker will be good.

Is it Soup Yet?

reggie miller is much more than a three point shooter

he is a hall of famer. he’s got midrange too. smart player. veteran. swagger. clutch, etc.

he’s money.

too bad he’s not going to play for us.

God bless and good night!

Amen to this!

Well said Master Po. TA is much more of an issue on the bench than this spot. Reggie does not bring us anything more than House does. At one time of course he did, but at this age he isn’t going to be able to defend anyone or get into the paint anymore than House does. I doubt his 3 pt % would be any better either, so why?! Danny must see something, but I don’t see it.

TA?

Cmon, TA is not the answer even in potential, and certainly neither is Walker.

We have no viable backup 2 guard in the playoffs. Eddie House can and will be exploited (again).

We need to shore up the backup PG, SG, and big man spots for the playoffs. I expect moves to be made in the next 3 weeks.

God bless and good night!

by BrickJames on Jan 26, 2009 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

House was exploited how again?!

8 pts pg and 41% three shooting and 83% FT shooting with some big baskets during the finals?! All this after getting robbed of his minutes by an old guy who came in and stunk it up bad enough for Doc to admit his mistake and put Eddie back in?!

We do agree on one thing and that is the big man spot needed in the playoffs. It sounds like Starbury is going to fill the PG spot. One solid big and we should get #18.

I listened to Dan Patrick this morning when all this was said and I have to say this report is another case of making something out of nothing. Dan just likes to paint guys into corners so he can run his ‘this just in’ news bit.

Northeastern

Did anyone notice that the announcers were mentioning Northeastern U. yesterday and failed to mention Reggie Lewis went there?

I’d rather see Pruitt and Walker get some meaningful game experience than Reggie. You know that, Hall-of-Famer or not, he’s going to need some time to get the rust shaken off. He’s also not going to the HoF for his defense (unless they’ve contructed a “greatest floppers” wing that I’m not aware of).

What the team needs more than another outside shooter is a wing that can defend, especially against some of the bigger guys. Pruitt might be able to help, but I really want to see what Walker can do against top competiton (not garbage time). He’s got the strength and athleticism where he MIGHT be able to at least make life more difficult for guys like LeBron. We don’t need a stopper, per se, just someone who can come in and give Paul a breather.

I find this very funny

Teams are still calling Reggie? Wow!

by Who on Jan 26, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions

If Scal can actually continue to play like he has, and hit around 35%+ of his threes

and if ta comes back and gives us some good wing d, though inconsistent at best, I think adding reggie and pj would be enough. i realize neither reggie nor PJ will make it here, but i think its the sort of thing we need. scal is playing just like posey, but not as well, so we need part of that to be made up. Another shooter is the realistic way we will fill it. we are kicking butt now because we are spreading the floor. reggie would spread the floor

Scal's good and dandy

but he’s not a 2 guard. Gabe will get called for phantom fouls in the playoffs because he’s Gabe Pruitt. We need a guard defender off the bench, and we don’t have one unless Rondo plays 48 minutes a game – he can guard bigger guards (a la Wade last week)

God bless and good night!

Why the interest in a guy who is 43, soon to be 44 who has been retired for nearly 4 years?

by RebusRankin on Jan 26, 2009 5:07 PM EST reply actions

This may sound mean. But,

I’d much rather watch him play then listen to his commentating. He has such a high pitched, whiny, nasal tone. He can ball though!

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

Reggie

I doubt Miller is coming back into the league, but if he did, I think he would join the Celtics over anyother team. We already have a relationship with him from last year and he is good friends with KG.

by Champzilla on Jan 26, 2009 5:48 PM EST reply actions

next one on the list= lazarus. i wish there was a big for the picking like pj last year. danny prbably will have to do a 3 for 1, for a mediocre big—oh well.

The Sky is Falling

I expect TA to come back and play very well after the all star break. This is just another “sky is falling” thread. We need this, we need that, blah blah blah.

The Celtics are the best team in the league and they’re loaded.

Take Patrick O’Bryant for example. With a few exceptions (e.g. Portland and LA), Patrick O’Bryant would be the regular back up center. He has shown me that he can shoot, pass, rebound and block shots. That’s what centers do. In Boston he has become the new human victory cigar.

And don’t you think Rick Carlisle would love to have a player as good as Tony Allen coming off his bench, or even starting instead of the virtually useless Antoine Wright?

The Celtics have one of the best benches in the league. The only two benches I’d rate more highly are the Lakers and possibly Cleveland. But those teams don’t have three HOF players in the starting lineup, either.

by Brickowski on Jan 26, 2009 6:19 PM EST reply actions

POB wouldnt get any more minutes on any team in this league
TA is worse than antoine wright
the celtics were the best team in the league last year, this year they are 1 of 3 really elite teams, and we dont know whos the best
the lakers and cavs may not have 3 future HOF, but they have the top 2 players in the league, both looking for revenge against the celtics with a deep bench

by TheAncientRivalry on Jan 26, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

would basically be the same role as eddie house. or the role that Eddie should be, back up shooting guard. but if we had no eddie i would love this.

Reggie...Ridiculous

Reggie could still shoot his last year, he just couldn’t get open. Its the wheels that go.

i think we’ve got a championship team. Our 2-8 spell gave all the blogger experts air but we’ve got a good 2nd team

I hope Brickowski is right about O’Bryant but for the first time against Dallas I think I saw why he’s nailed to the bench. No real quickness.

by Wildblu1 on Jan 26, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

Don't know if Danny missed this but...

Reggie Miller is OLD.

I mean, you thought Sam Cassell was old. But Reggie is OLD.

by illantari on Jan 26, 2009 7:46 PM EST reply actions

Is this true?

How old is Reggie now? 45 or something? I’m not sure if I believe this…
