Preview ot yet to come

Seems like New York is playing games with Marbury. I would still like to see him in a Celtics uniform. Not sure how much in shape he is and how long it would take him to fit in.

He seem surreal in his ESPN Chat. Makes me wonder how much Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni are screwing around with him because Dolan wants to.

If the guy can still play and perform let’s take him. We have nothing to lose and if he dosen’t work out the team can still cut him loose

Nothing to Lose?

you can’t be serious with that comment. all this guy has ever done throughout his entire carreer is LOSE, what makes you think that will change?

things we need from a backup pg:
- sound team defense
- solid 3pt shooting
- unselfish play

Steph has NEVER been good at any of the above; yet we have 3 count em 3 backup pg’s on the roster that excell at all. What is the fasicination with this clown?!?

by D Dub on Jan 27, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

We have 3 backup PG’s on the roster that excel at what you mentioned? huh?
Eddie house is not a Point guard
Sam Cassel is good at nothing you mentioned
and Gabe really hasnt been earning much, not to mention playoff minutes

by TheAncientRivalry on Jan 27, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Pretty much!

Yeah, that pretty much says it all.

Plus, who knows if Sam will be able to play at all. He’s a year older than he was last year, and it’s not like he was all that great last year, to begin with.

by JamesMartinCole on Jan 27, 2009 4:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Cassell, House and Pruitt are all better 3pt shooters than Stiph.

Cassell, House, and Pruitt are all better defenders than Stiph (understatement of the year, btw)

Cassell, House, and Pruitt are all better team players than Stiph (wow, did I really have to just point that out…)

And how about I throw in Championship experience? I think Eddie and Sam destroy Stiph in that catagory too. On top of all that, backup pg is the area of least need on our team. Weighing the Risk vs Reward, it is laughable to even consider picking him up.

by D Dub on Jan 27, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Cassell is done…and is not a solid 3-pt shooter, defender, or even unselfish while on the court
Again, his is not a point guard, he cant even dribble
And Pruitt is ready for nothing and hasnt shown anything as far as im concerned

…Marbury has averaged more assists in his career than all 3, and is 12th in assists in NBA history, better ball handler than all 3….Now I agree he seems to be a knucklehead…but hes a better player than any of our back up points, not even close

by TheAncientRivalry on Jan 27, 2009 4:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

House was our primary backup pg last year, and we won a title with him in that role. Sure, his handle isn’t the best, but that only was against Lindsey Hunter (who we no longer have to face, btw).

And what are you basing your opinion of Sam on, all the minutes you have seen him play?

This team goes as far as our team defense takes us. Our role players need to be just that, role players. Stiph has no chance of learning and executing on defense. He will only be a distraction and will cost us the title. Mark my words.

by D Dub on Jan 27, 2009 4:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sam was terrible last year, on both ends of the court, and doc hasnt given him any run at all this year because he doesnt know what Sam has left…That seems to me like hes done. I can pretty much guarantee Stephon could be a better defender than Sam…And Eddie was our primary back-up PG in the regular season, he couldnt do any of the ballhandling in the playoffs. Hes a shooter, let him be just that.

by TheAncientRivalry on Jan 27, 2009 4:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And how do you call Sam a solid 3 pt shooter, and, Marbury not when they both average in the low 30% for their careers?
Why do you call Steph a selfish PG, and Sam not, when marbury averages more assists for his career?
What world are you in when you think Gabe is good enough to be our backup point guard this year?
why do you want eddie in a role hes not comfortable in?
Again, I agree Marbury is risky, but to say Our 3 backup pgs are better is just dead wrong…

by TheAncientRivalry on Jan 27, 2009 4:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I look at wins, not stats. Going by stats, the Knicks should have been a powerhouse last year with Stiph, Curry, and Randolph. How did that work out?

I have seen Sam hit so many clutch 3 pt shots in meaningful playoff games, I can’t even keep track. Has Stiph ever even played in an meaningful game?

I would actually prefer Gabe to Stiph, his defense is litterally 3x better. Defense above all else, is what I want from my backup pg.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, to me there is more to being a good player than individual stats. Stiph has put up stats, but never wins, and his teammates all hate him, and then all his teams improve once he leaves. That is what I base my opinion on, but I respect your number based opinion none the less, I just don’t agree with it.

by D Dub on Jan 27, 2009 4:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How exactly is Gabe a solid defender? the kid is nervous in garbage time…what would he be like in the playoffs?
I guess you can make the argument that Sam is a winner and Steph isnt, and I would agree…but none of the big 3 were winners until last year either, and Sam was in the right place at the right time when he won his rings
Sam shot 21% from 3 last year in the playoffs and 33% from the field, and I dont exactly remember anything clutch from him

If sam was still in better condition, no question Id take sam, but the fact we DO show interest, shows hes done, and the team thinks hes done

Surprise!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (4:08 PM ET ) Sorry for the delay folks. We’re tracking down Stephon right now.

He’s too busy getting high with an intern or something.

God bless and good night!

ESPN would just like to remind us one more time that stephon's starbury brand shoes are available online.

Because that is clearly the sole reason steph is doing any of these interviews/chats.

Don't hate on the kicks

His underpriced merchandise is one legitimately good thing he’s done for society.

God bless and good night!

Yeah, I know.

I’m justing pointing out how obvious it is what is going on, because I’m very cynical when it comes to advertising.

I'll always respect the shoe thing

Anyway, ESPN needs something for the intro. It’s not like he’s been up to much else, lately.

attention ho

jesus… he is still a month away from even being relevant. Who cares what he has to say? It’s the same crap he’s been saying for months. I’ll save everyone the effort:

- I have options on who to play for
- I want my money
- The knicks are playling games with me
- Coach doesn’t care where I play
- I wanna make out with my sister
- The knicks have no immediate plans to release me… thus… i’m irrelevant.

He's a punk

I was going to joke that the chat had the potential to be a disaster… but he apparently hasn’t even shown up for it.

Just keep posting, “Hey Steph… take the 2 mil paycut that Dolan is offering you and sign with Boston already so I can stop reading about you”

Headline

If/When Starbury sings with Boston I hope that the headline reads “Stephon is Here!”

by StartOrien on Jan 27, 2009 4:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

No worries, Toine43. That was certainly meant for me.

I have no problem at all being insulted for objecting to the signing of the biggest cancer in the league.

Creampuff Questions

obviously they will never allow him to answer any of the questions I keep asking.

Such as…
“What’s the Knicks motivation of buying you out of your contract if you dont’ accept significantly less money?”

“Are you prepared to spend the entire season sitting on the Knicks’ inactive list?”

“Yes you’re a man of principle and you’re under contract… but you’re under contract to pay 82 games + playoffs for the Knicks. You played 24 games last year and 0 this year… so why not accept 2 million less to go play with the Celtics for half a season?”

by LarBrd33 on Jan 27, 2009 4:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

David (Seattle)

Are you still in game shape?… or are we a few months away from seeing you get back to form?

by LarBrd33 on Jan 27, 2009 5:01 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

others that I’ve tried to ask…

“How’s your vacation going? Getting any sun?”

and

“Are you any closer to getting a buyout than you were at the start of the season?”

… none answered

Objection

I object to taking Stephon for many reasons, most of them enumerated above. He’s also not very good (43% FG, 33 3PtFG%, 2.8 rebounds/game), not a team player, does not know team defense at all, etc. But my biggest objection is best summed up by the following piece of wisdom from Aristophanes:

Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered… but STUPID lasts forever.

If you’ve ever heard this guy talk, you know how well that applies to him. He and TA combined couldn’t put 2 functioning brain cells together. The last thing our Celtics need is a stupidass player with his extremely weird and destructive history.

by DRJ1 on Jan 27, 2009 5:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wow.

I didn’t know Aristophanes knew Gerald Green.
