Lucky No More

The Globe reports:

Damon Blust, the man who played mascot Lucky the Leprechaun, has parted ways with the Celtics.

Sources close to the situation told the Globe's Marc Spears both sides agreed on a mutual resignation.

One source said Blust missed some team appearances and didn't see eye to eye with his boss on several issues. There is no legal or personal problem outside of the arena that led to Blust's departure.

Come on, Jeff!

We’re in the middle of a nine game winning streak and you go and title a blog entry “Lucky No More”.

I thought you were a rational sensible man! Sheesh. Might as well have one titled “Break a Leg, Paul” if Pierce were gonna be shooting a commercial!

Reporter: About a year ago I asked about the Celtics-Lakers thing and you said you'd really only seen it on TV. Now you've been through it, can you talk about playing the Boston Celtics for the NBA championship?

This sucks

I remember Lucky from going to see the C’s BG (before Garnett). There were days when he had more energy than most of the guys on the floor. Sometimes the best part of the game was watching his acrobatic dunks and leaning over the rail from the balcony trying to get his attention when Lucky had the t-shirt gun in hand.

He also had that knack for getting local celebrities (Big Papi and Yoouuk in particular) to partake in various tomfoolery.

I wonder if there’s going to be a replacement…

I believe the real reason is he wants to dedicate more of his time to hiding his lucky charms from those pesky kids.

This is really too bad...

I’ve met Lucky on a number of occasions and he’s always been great! I always loved watching him fire around the arena and pump people up. He has become a Celtics icon and its really too bad that it came to this. I kinda hope they don’t replace him – it just wouldn’t be the same….

Anything is Possible!!!!!

back when there weren’t so many people at the games Damon was just running around and sat down next to me for a little while. Got to talk to him for 5 minutes or so, good guy, too bad he’s gone.

I can’t stand all of that “game presentation” crap anyway: lucky, the cheerleaders, oboxious PA announcers, light shows, chatchkes dropping from little parachutes, girls on unicycles and all the rest. Maybe they needed that stuff when they had a 25 win team but they don’t need it now.

I wish Mr. Blust well in his future endeavors.

what sells the team is the team and the game itself. the rest is superfluous. i am sure mr. lucky was and is a good guy and a good acrobat.

Too Bad

The guy actually was a plus. I never warmed up to the cheerleaders or the parachutes and I hate the stupid little kids race on the tricycles but you can’t be an old fogie about it – it worked as entertainment. They have had some amazing national anthem singers, the Heroes Among Us is usually uplifting and the Jumbotron is worth a few laughs. Lucky just probably burned out and got back-talkin the boss. He is only a mascot.
