oh brother.
thebirdman’s right on; another clause ought to be that he only gets paid for games played. He had the chance to take the high road in NY and instead acted like a petulant egocentric millionaire. If Marbury really wanted to play for Boston he’d take a deal from NY and go. He’s dragging this out for the attention and he feels completely entitled to the money.
Check with Childress, Stephon. Perhaps he can find a roster spot for you.

well
i think you need to put yourself in his situation, however. If you were owed 20.8 million dollars, would you really say “alright, i’ll take 14 million and get out of here.” It’s easy for us to sit back in our desk chairs and say “ohh, he already has so much money, what’s a few million?” but that’s because we’re not him and we can’t realistically put ourselves in his situation. It’s not like the dispute is over a few bucks, it’s a couple of million dollars, so I can’t really blame Marbury for trying to milk all the money he can out of New York.
Please No!!
This is not like Corey Dillon or Moss. . .the man is the dictionary definition of a “team cancer”. He scores on bad teams but has never shown any ability to fit into a system or play a role other than team chemistry bomb. Please Please don’t blow up this amazing celtics team with this chump. Any team he goes to will be worse don’t kid yourself with stats.
The bigger concern is that Rivers isn't Belichick.
Rivers’ history of managing head cases is hardly stellar.
Tommy Truth is absolutely correct.

Who has a great history of managing head cases?
Somehow, someway, someone will always bring it back to bashing Doc. If there supposedly is some head-case guru out there, I can’t imagine that is something one would be proud of on their resume.
really?
Tommy Truth – do you know him personally? Do you know the details of the team chemistry and coaching situations on the teams he was in? Do most “cancers” have shoe companies that sell their products for almost nothing so that poor kids can afford them? Any body else who agrees with Tommy is going to be shut up when he comes to beantown, JUST LIKE for moss and dillon. This team is like a family, do you really think they’re going to collapse because of one guy? Please…
What we do know, Rondoo, I don't want.
We know he refused to play. We know he has been a cancer under multiple coaches. We know that a player’s coach, D’Antoni, who has no history of issues with players, wants nothing to do with the most talented player on their roster. He knows Marbury’s history. To me, that, more than anything, speaks volumes. I have no idea what shoe companies have to do with that. What he named his shoe speaks to his narcissism.
It’s sort of like the O’Bryant thread in the forums. People who are for this seem to have this vision that Garnett is this godlike figure. That O’Bryant is going to be touched by Garnett’s intensity and screaming suddenly become Robert Parish. Or that an epic reunion with the godlike Garnett will dramatically make Stephon want to frolic it the foxhole with his new teammates.
There’s a reason why O’Bryant is making the league minimum. He’s a long-term project, at best.
There’s a reason why D’Antoni doesn’t want his most talented player anywhere near a basketball court. Probably a lot of reasons.
There are things even His Keviness can’t change.

Luckily for you, you getting him is not an option
You are only a fan, you not wanting him has absolutely zero to do with what the Celtics organization decides. Are you in the locker room? Is your chemistry with the guys at stake? You are not on the Celtics, so you wanting him or not, will not play into it. Why do people still believe their beliefs and opinions about what would be good for a team they root for have more merit than what said team itself thinks? If the C’s end up signing him, then I put more faith in their estimation of what effect he might have over someone on the outside looking in.
While I love the current Celtics team, I would hardly call it “amazing.” And while I also know Marbury’s history, it would be interesting to see him on this team and how he reacts playing with PP, Ray and KG. And, as many have noted, if he does not pan out, sayonara! I think if we can get him for a reasonable price tag, it is worth the gamble.
Good for Basketball?
He actually said being reunited with KG would be good for basketball. He hasn’t learned much since he came into the league.
Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Tommy Heinsohn, JoJo White, Dennis Johnson, Larry Bird, Robert Parish
Dave Cowens, Kevin McHale, Satch Sanders, stephon “foxhole” marbury.
Has a great ring to it, doesn’t it?
