Bruised and Knicked

Dreary loss thoughts:
- Pierce was the only starter with a pulse for most of the night.
- The offense looked out of sync all night.
- Somehow the Knicks convinced Rondo to shoot jumpers; not good for us.
- Wilson Chandler had a career night against us.
- What happened to our vaunted defense?
- The Knicks play that frantic style with young energy guys that gives the Celtics fits (see Warriors, Hawks, etc.). This is a bad trend.
- Scal played a lot of crunch time minutes. Seemed odd, but it wasn't like anyone else was stepping up to earn minutes. Then again, Powe was solid in limited time.
- KG looked like he tweaked his right leg. I'm not sure if it effected his play the rest of the night. Hopefully it isn't anything bad. He has been complaining about his leg hurting lately.
- I don't care about any excuses tonight. You shouldn't lose to the Knicks. You shouldn't drop 4 out of the last 6 games. Bad effort tonight.
- Silver lining: The Cavs and Magic both lost today too.

Yeah, Scal and Powe were fine off the bench, great effort.
Beyond that, the bench was a disaster. Tony was Tony: One bad decision after another, and he may be as bad an outside shooter as Rondo.
Nothing from Rondo or Perkins. Garnett’s clearly hurt. Allen was off.
Only Pierce tonight in a really, really discouraging team performance.

Only caught the end of the game but I was very impressed with Scal, he always seems to play very well in NYC. Look for the celtics to take it to Charlotte next game, I think they are gonna rebound and refocus, hopefully giving them some momentum going into the Houston game.

its feeling hopeless
Doc back to his crazy rotations. Kg will never be physical enough to make up for small ball. house not having a decent run in awhile. Tony is playing as bad as ever. Rajon has no jumper still. we have no one to stretch the defense
our best news today? big Z is out for probably 6 weeks. I know that’s awful i am just telling you its a fact. we again blew a chance to gain a game on cle but cle is down a key man for awhile…we have, HAVE to have home court
And we don’t allow trolls here right???? just asking
As bad as it is nothing has changed: we need a big man. we need a shooter, preferrably a big guard or taller

They caught a break with Z going down for 4-6 weeks, but if they do not get their house in order soon, they could fall behind in the race for home court.

WOW
Hard for me to write this, but at the present time, this is not a very good team. Have lost four out of the last 6, two of those against pretty bad teams, including the two worst defensive teams in the NBA. Not time to overreact, but something has got to change.

not a very good team?
Does a rough six-game stretch including a road trip out West wipe out the 29 games before it?

They found a different way to win each night
but then, why did they have to? You are right, they might have been off to a great start, but I never got the feeling they were finding new ways to win by choice. This team should be winning according to its own script.
I also had the feeling that Garnett’s verbal assaults on his opponents were not a sign that all was well, but that’s just me and I do not mean to open a can of worms.

Agreed. This is a good team – with some rather glaring deficiencies that are going to need addressing before the playoffs.
As Wahz points out, we need a big and we need a shooter for the bench, so Doc’s got somewhere to go besides Tony and House for scoring.

Magic loss to Raptors.

I don't take solace in other teams losing
I know what I see and that is right now the Celtics are playing bas basketball, have lost four of six, and scored less than 90 points against the two worst defensive teams in the NBA. You are only as good as your last few games, and right now that is not good for the Celtics.

kg and perk took way too long to do anything once they got the ball down low. eddie was on the floor way too long because he was doing diddly on o and his man was beating him off the dribble. tony looked like he was lost. they have some hurt bodies and egos and the knicks wanted it more and doc was outcoached. powe and baby should have plaayed more and yes scal played well but he has big holes on offense when he’s out there too long.hope kg is ok- he looked cooked and that leg/ankle looked cooked as well.pp is the gamer on this team and he’s not getting much help.

my take from the garden..
Just got home from the game, I did not recognize this team as the one that terrorized the league for the first quarter of the season. They did look old and slow, maybe one fast break attempt all night. No pride on defense. The Knicks wanted it more, played better ball than us and were in control for the entire game.
Maybe I missed something live, but keeping Rondo and Perk on the bench for last quarter was killing me. Scal was not horrible, but House was and they did not spread the floor as I assume was intended. It just reeked of Doc trying to play on the Knicks terms instead of forcing our own style of ball.
Vintage Pierce, though he never took over the game at any point. And Lee outplayed Garnett. I will not panic, but patiently await them to wake up and start playing with Celtic pride again. But a bummer of a game to go to I’ll tell you that much.

another one slips away...
Knicks played tough D, but…
Rondo must attack attack attack— they shadowed him on his probes under the basket… then he gave up attacking.
Doc: no adjustment re Jeffries guarding Rondo— just clear out and have Rondo attack! in 3rd knicks getting all the hustle rebounds, until we insert our hustle rebounder, Mr. Powe, who starts cleaning up. So why Scal over Powe in the 4th? Also, needs to rest Ray & PP earlier, get a consistent rotation… but that’s old news.
When will Perk learn to keep the ball up & not to dribble when he’s wide open under the basket? and why can’t he hustle for rebounds? He could get hands on half the rebounds he gives up on. We need a consistent Perk.
Ray struggled… Garnett struggled… but as a 7 footer, just turn and shoot j’s all night… no need to dream-shake Lee, just turn and shoot… Sometimes there’s too much game in KG’s game…
T.A.— I’ve been a card-carrying member of the fan club since that stretch before the blown knee against Indiana, but he’s lost his mojo. Anyone else ready for the Bill Walker era?

Putrid mental effort
Despite the point differential in the last game with the Knicks I was very worried about this game. Lately the Celtics have been making the physical effort but not the mental effort. It takes a mental commitment, especially for the Celtics, to play defense against teams like Golden State and the Knicks. The Celtics certainly got screwed by the officiating on their West Coast swing but they didn’t tonight. The Knicks employed a modified Tortoise versus the Hare strategy and the Celtics fell far it — again! In the last Knicks game they turned up the defense and the Knicks faded. It didn’t work tonight, they kept right on going. If the Celtics force the Knicks into their game they win, The Knicks were playing at home and chumped the Celtics into playing their style until it was too late for the Celtics to force a change. The lack of mental commitment by all the starters is noticeable. The reduction of their lead just before half time was clear evidence that they were not making the necessary mental effort. Their unforced turnover rate continues to be a sympton of lack of mental effort. Tonight Rondo kept trying to force passes that weren’t there and not taking the shots that were. Quite frankly I thought Scal played the most consistent defense of any of the Celtics. Harrington missed a lot more shots with Scal guarding him than KG.

They won it last year. mentally, thats enough for the veterans, except for Paul. We dont have as good a team as we had last year and a lot of teams are a lot better than last year. Last year we surprised even ourselves and that momentum carried us all the way. This year, well, blah! if we win it fine, but we dont want it as bad and it will show at crunch time unless Doc finds himself again and we get some new players. We didnt want Possey bad enough and it will show in the Playoffs. The owners know that and if the owners knew it and didnt care, why should all the players care? Its a domino effect. The proof is in the pudding and the pudding we are preparing does not have the same quality engredients as last year. Thas all. No surprises here, really. Enjoy the season cause we will win more games tahn we will lose. Another Flag? No creo.

I am afraid that you are right
how bad did the owners really want it, being unwilling to sign posey? did they really not see his value? really?really? does the excuse that we need cap space in 2010 seem sane now??We all saw KG’s issues last year. he is great for what he is and does. But he isn’t Jordan. He really doesn’t bring it every night. He has a great act but its an act. PP is at least as fierce and doesn’t have to tell the whole world about it. We need a big body next to kg all the time because of his flaws and because of docs flaws too. the knicks got a series of easy hoops toward the end and Perks happy butt was on the bench. doc has always had issues and with this thin of a bench we are going to see his freaky act again.
HAVE to get a big and a shooter. then all the rest of it will add up very well. house will seem like a nice additional hreat. TA can play with the starters and play d. KG won’t seem like a guy who only picks on smaller lesser players. Ray will seem like the ultimate dagger thrower. PP will seem like the ice cold killer he is. Perk will add muscle. We’ll be fine but we need two bodies, just solid guys at center and guys who can guard and shoot at the 3 line

Now we see Posey's real value
Yeah we miss his perimeter shooting & D but Posey’s biggest addition to this team was veteran leadership & a locker room presence. That’s why I think we see all this bickering amongst the players now. Last year I think it was the same but Pose, and also PJ later on, was a strong enough calming force. Even the Big 3 respected him in that regard. We may have won the championship last year but this team for the most part is still young experience wise and it’s starting to show in our chemistry. We exhibited it at times last year but Big Game James seemed to bring the team back down to earth. Hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see anyone doing that this year so far. Definitely miss those man-hugs!!!

Lost Mental Edge in LA
I hate to say this…but the Celtics seem to have gone south after Christmas day. They are playing physical, but they don’t seem focused. This isn’t only the players, but right up to Doc aswell.

The team lose focus over one game they lost to the Lakers in Dec. I just don’t see it. If it were true Celtics would not have won the title last year if they focused that much on a loss.

I was at the game. Putting Harrington on Rondo totally confused the Celtics in the 2nd half, and seemed to limit him to a jump shooter, which is usually bad for us. Garnett looked exhausted after the fourth quarter, and we seemed to play better tonight when he was not in the lineup. I don’t understand why Doc took Powe out in the 4th quarter. He was the only player besides PIerce with any energy in the 2nd half. It was a big disappointment to see our team look very ordinary tonight.

i was there too. I happened to be in town with the inlaws and coughed up over $260 for two tickets for the wife and I.
right from the jump, they looked effed up. just no energy. the knicks were getting places on the floor, which just doesn’t happen when our D is locked in. they had more spunk and just wanted it. not sure what is going on behind the scenes with this squad, but something is off. if it was a battle and we lost, i’d be OK.
but with these ticket prices, i’m done with going live. its better on TV.

Perk and Rondo
Havent exactly been playing well, and I’m not at all mad at them for it, because both of them played out of their heads the entire season leading up to this stretch.. but its kinda exposed the big 3, and the fact that they havent been all that great this season, Ray Allen may be playing better and more effiecently than last year (not tonight) but big deal, this team is gonna live and die with PP and KG, and these 2 guys have not a had that great of a year, Pierce is starting to get it going, but nagging knee injuries are hurting him defensivly and hes shooting an abysmal fg% for the season, KG is far more concerning, hes truly a unique player to say the least, but right now hes more talk and cheap shots than he is a good basketball player, time to look in the mirror and pull it together a little bit
