Tony Out: Gabe Freed?
Celtics guard Tony Allen will miss the game against the Charlotte Hornets tonight with a right ankle strain. Allen, injured during the Celtics' 100-88 loss to New York Sunday, could also miss the Celtics' home game against Houston Wednesday.
"I re-injured it driving into the middle when I got called for traveling," Allen said after viewing the Celtics' pre-game shootaround at the Time Warner Cable Arena Tuesday. "I tweaked it and I should have left the game but I tried to play on it. Hopefully, it will be better tomorrow."
Celtic coach Doc Rivers said the involvement of Gabe Pruitt and Brian Scalabrine would likely be increasing, regardless of Allen's status.
"We have to figure out a way to get (Scalabrine) on the floor," Rivers said. "He does a lot of good things for us."

Couldn’t agree more with Doc, Scal and Gabe should be getting more regular rotation minutes. Both play strong D and both can spread the floor.
Meaningful minutes should equate to increased confidence and consistency for these two. The more they play, the more our opponents will learn to respect their 3pt shooting.

More likely that House gets the minutes.
According to Rivers’ bizarre rookie policy, (Pruitt and O’Bryant are essentially rookies) It’s way too early in the season for Pruitt to see meaningful playing time.
We’ve heard these things before from Rivers.

Rivers Rookie Policy sucks
Its been well documented that Doc does not like playing rookies and I do not understand why he treats Gabe like a rookie….I will most certainly vomit with another Celtic loss tonight with doc quite posssibly doing the same thing in the last couple of losses….here’s my prediction…
Bury Rondo in the first 7-8 min of a close 4th qtr and play trigger happy House at Point while Gabe will only see PT if its a Blow out( which I highly doubt, tonights game will be close…book it)
Offense runs though PP or Ray as Rondo stands again in the corners useless instead of running the offense through Rondo with a high Pick n roll at the top and Rondo using his speed to create plays, much as what this team has been doing when blowing out teams.
Doc has figured that our team is just so good, there is no reason at all to change any of his game plan..He will ride out the Big Tired three….42 min for Ray…39 for PP and 38 for KG….these minutes are based if the game is close.

It's Official
The Tony Allen can replace James Posey experiment is over. Ainge and company blew it.

Doc's favoritism toward Vets is just sickening.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Why is it scary . . .
when the coach of a team is ‘trying to figure out’ a way to get players on the floor?
How hard can that be? After all, he is the coach.

doc thinks playing scal more minutes is a good thing. sigh.
i have no doubt scal is smart and plays good team bb. but on a championship level team a coach should not honestly think such things.

Scal will win this game.
No worries yet from this Celtic fan,
We have to see what this week brings for us in Cleveland before we bash Allen, Doc and the team as a whole.
we have been humbled by the recent loses but this is the same team that recently won 19.
So lets give them one more week……

First time posting
If the team continues on the same path it has been then we might need a new coach. I think Doc is great but lately he has only been making us look bad. First we need to get the bench more involved and with Big Baby, Powe, House, Scalabrine, and Cassell all playing together. If he doesn’t want play rookies that much then there’s nothing can be done he just has a different way of developing young players. Look at Rondo and how great he has became I think the same with Gabe if we give it time.

Doc is right
It’s wise to insert Scal into the regular rotation at this point of the season. Once (and if) things become more stable, he can go back into his role.
I wrote that Doc should do this a couple of days ago in a comment to Steve’s post::

Scal...
…is useful in that he’s the only player coming off the bench who will instinctively defend perimeter-oriented PFs out on the perimeter. When Doc plays both Powe and Davis at once, that’s been a problem: both instinctively head toward the paint, and often have to run out to contest the long jumpers fired up by guys like Harrington, Murphy, etc. What I wish is that Doc would manage the rotations a bit differently so that the two play together less frequently — or just make a choice to give one of the two the majority of the minutes.

"perimeter-oriented PFs"
Excellent phrasing as a synopsis for whom Scal is best suited to guard. Well played, Matt.

help
wow, just a few days ago we had 19 in a row and looked like number 18 was on its way..not now..with this crew we’ll never win it all..baby, scal, tony allen, pruitt and pattycakes are all expendable..i say trade them all five..they don’t bring a lot to the table..and walker and giddens must not be much either..
