What to do with TA & Scal...

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfn6hzo

Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, and our 1st round draft pick for Shane Battier.

Why for Houston:

Battier is a proven winner and great role player for the Rockets, but is on a team with no chance of winning. They are without their best player (Yao) and their next two best players are the Human Question Mark (T-Mac) and Trevor Ariza, who's probably a bit overrated because of his strong playoff performance. Battier is on the books for nearly $7 million for this season and next. Getting rid of his contract for expirings could make Houston a big player in the much anticipated 2010 free agency. Not to mention they would get a late 1st round pick out of the deal.

Why for Boston:

Battier is a winner. Just look at his plus/minus numbers. He's a great defender, one of the best role players ever, in my opinion. The acquisition of Battier would all but assure us banner number 18, as this is what our squad would look like:

Perkins / Wallace / Williams

Garnett / Davis / Sweetney

Pierce / Battier / Walker

Allen / Daniels / Giddens

Rondo / House / Hudson

Much Better than acquiring Nocioni at the deadline, in my opinion.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

BAD IDEA

The JAZZ don’t want him because he’s to short. The Jazz gets misused whenever they play a good team in the playoffs He’s great over the season but come playoff time he’s a liability. Plus he wants stater money but he can only come off the bench.

We need to trade.........

Allen:
for any beefy, lengthy, strong small forward who can defend opposing strong small forwards like Lebron.
He does not have to be able to score a lick, but just be able to help slow down aLebron for instance if he gets on a roll in the playoffs.
We need a big body like that on the bench.
Maybe Walker can be such a man but to be safe trading Allen for such a player would be a wise move and should not be hard to dop.

We should trade Scal, for a legit back up center.
If Rasheed or Perk get hurt we will not have a legit center on the bench.
Its vital that we get a backup on the bench (especially since Baby and Williams are not legit centers) because we need that big man insurance.

This trade would be sick...

But Houston would want more. They LOVE Battier.

I just created an account so I could comment on your posting. The way that you articulated a realistic trade really caught me off guard, especially in contrast to the comments I just finished reading regarding Marbury’s less-than-choice remarks about Pierce. You didn’t spell nothing with an ‘e’, or descend into that noisome bottomless pit of Cavs/Lakers bashing.(Side note: The noisome bottomless pit of Cavs/Lakers bashing is like a vacuum that sucks all intellectual energies from an NBA blog, but I digress)

If Scal’s contract is expiring, which it may or may not be, teams looking to free-up cap space for 2010’s all-star free-agency would have a large incentive to offload a mid-level contract in return for two expiring ones. Boston is looking to contend this year, and the same can be said of maybe three other teams, for everyone else, trading-down now and off-loading longer-term contracts makes perfect sense. I don’t know if Houston would be willing to part with Battier, but it is comforting to know that, with some expiring contracts (or at least with some low level contracts) on Boston’s bench, coupled with next Summer’s star-filled free agency, Boston has some leverage in making a strong late-season pick-up who could bolster their bench and enhance their chances at another title run come May. A strong 1 on 1 defender at the Small Forward coming off the bench behind Pierce, like Shane Battier, would put but Boston over the top in the East and quite possibly in the entire league. The Celtics bench would simply be unrivaled.

Or, who knows, maybe at the last minute Ainge will entice Bruce Bowen out of retirement and have another P.J. Brown moment circa the Celtics 08’ title run. Of course Bowen has already won a few titles, so the incentive isn’t quite the same, but still, one can hope.
