2:28 [Comment From IndeedProceed] Your head says Cleveland is the best team in the east. On paper it looks like Cleveland is the best team in the East. What does your gut say though if Cleveland faces Beantown in the ECF?
2:28 KDonhoops(Kelly Dwyer): Oh, CLE. The Cavs destroyed them last year. Pierce had no chance with LeBron.

The Cavs "destroyed" us?
I thought each team won their home games. Mr. Dwyer is forgetting recent history, most notably the 2008 playoffs.

I like how he remembers the 31 point schellaking in a game that didn't matter...
But forgets that we beat them in Boston without KG.

Talk, talk, talk.
We’re better than we were last year with KG and without. They’re quite arguably worse. We’ll see who goes how far.

I like the fire guys
Hopefully KG and company are reading the blog too.

We also....
we also played the magic much harder and without KG. I still think we would’ve beaten the Cavs last year without KG if we had made it to the ECF.

lebrons one weakness is he choakes at the free throw line at the end of a game, if we can keep it close we will win more times than not, becasue cleveland lets you back in a game becasue of lebrons inability to hit clutch free throws, and he dominates the ball so hes the only one who ever shoots em
by celtics94 on Oct 19, 2009 10:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Now they have Shaq.
So that should take the free throw burden off of LeBron…

Cavs/Celtics
The matchup ALWAYS makes me nervous, it’s always a see saw battle. I just hope it’s US who beat Cleveland at home first.

For the longest time I thought Kelly was a girl
Now I know he is a he…..but he might become a she if PP sees this.

paper?
what paper? delonte, mo, parker, z, varrejeo, gibson, leon, moon
that looks good on paper?
all the cavs have is lebron and shaq everybody else is a bench player.

Well, on paper it's like this:
66 wins + Shaq, Parker, Moon, -Wally, Wallace = better team than last year
It’s fair to expect that the Cavs will be very strong next season. However, I don’t think they’re better than the Celts.

paper
the 66 wins was way more than what kind of team the Cavs were last year. They were a 57 win team, the refs and lack of effort by their oppoenents led to 66 wins. they also lost Pavlicic & Joe Smith. They are not winning 60 this year.

We'll see...
As bad as you think the Cavs are, they did put the hurt to the Celts a couple of times last year. They were an excellent squad.

They were excellent, but...
…fact is they still didn’t beat us at home, including a game when we were out KG. While on paper they ‘upgraded’ a team that won 66 games last year, in actuality I’m not that sure they will be be much improved. The rest of the East has improved along with them, and I think Shaq’s value is very overrated at this point. What has he done for a playoff team in the last few years? Yeah. Exactly.
The Cavs added some more role players and a very old yet admittedly still fairly dominant center to a team that already had a lot of role players.
As others have pointed out, they are still vulnerable to the pick and roll, and LeBron still doesn’t have a legitimate second banana. Shaq is a mercenary loaner for a year, and at 37 years old there’s no guarantee whatsoever that he’ll stay healthy through the year. Also, the Celtics added Rasheed Wallace, who can give the Cavs matchup problems with his perimeter shooting similar to what Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu did to the Cavs in the ’09 ECF.

As I said, I think the Celts are better...
However, this “the Cavs aren’t that good” mentality is simply wrong. People may try to explain away 66 wins, but that’s still an elite win total.

I don't see how they did anything but improve
Their lineup is now:
Shaq / Big Z
Andy V / Hickson / Powe (end of season, but whatever)
Lebron / Moon
Parker / West
Williams / Gibson
versus:
Big Z / Wallace
Andy V / Smith
Lebron / Wally
West / Pav
Williams / Gibson
I don’t see anyway that lineup can’t be considered improved. There are some concerns about how well it will gel, but I think they’ll be fine. (I’m not even a huge Parker or Moon fan, just they are better than Wally and Pavlov…)
I guess Big Z, West, and Moon get almost all the minutes off the bench, with Hickson or Powe picking up a handful in the big rotation.
Their biggest problem, is they kept the coach.

will have any impact on PP or the C’s. That site seems like a bastion of NBA knowledge.

I thought it was more interesting that-
2:30 KDonhoops: That’s tough.
It’s going to be tough all year, that ORL/CLE thing. I just don’t know.
KD is rating Cleveland and Orlando as equal with Boston below them. I personally think it’s like rock paper scissors with Orlando > Cleveland > Boston > Orlando
by VBG on Oct 20, 2009 9:28 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good spot
I was in the chat and I didn’t catch that.
I would say push comes to shove it is Cleveland and Boston with Orlando slightly below them. But, until someone proves they’re better than Orlando, it is unfair to rate them any lower than #1.

Eh
Hedo was a big part of their game. I dunno if VC is gonna fill that role so well.

Vince Carter is much better then Hedo Turkoglu…of course fans of other teams will try to make a reason to write off another contender…again Vince Carter is twice the player hedo turkoglu is

Orlando barely managed to beat us in 7 games...
…and we were without our best player.
I don’t think we need to “prove” anything to the Magic.

Not my head, the Celtics are much better on paper. just because they signed Shaq doesn’t give them the edge everyone thinks. Wait a couple of months, let Shaq get tired.
He is living off his reputation.
