Is Rasheed Shooting too many 3's
Hey guys, I dont want to be hard on him, because it is only pre-season and he has actually been playing really well, but too me it just seems like Sheed is relying too heavily on the 3 ball. He has a lot of talent, can step back to create his own shot inside the arc, and can post up. I went through the numbers and turns out he is shooting 13-39 from beyond the arc which is 33.33%. Thats not bad, and it forces teams to be honest and play him when he is behind the arc. This spreads the offense and opens up the lane for Rondo, meaning that opposing point guards will have to stay on him, making it much harder to double team when both he and wallace are on the floor.
Obviously Wallace shooting the 3 has its positives, and the Celtics have never had a big guy who can spread the floor like he can. But with that said, i think 39 three point attempts in 6 games is a little excessive. Thats 6.5 a game, roughly the same amount that Ray allen shoots. Also, he has only taken 67 total feild goal attempts, which means that well over half of his shots are coming from behind the arc. Again, compare this to Ray Allen, who takes roughly 1/3rd of his shots behind the arc.
I am not questioning Wallace's ability to shoot the 3, but i think he is rellying on it too heavily. He has a lot more to offer to this team, and unless his legs are shot, i dont understand why he is hanging out behind the three point line so much. I would like to see him causing havoc down low and disrupting defences more often. Again, spreading the floor obviously has it's benefits, and this is only pre-season, but i would love to hear other people's thoughts on this. Thanks
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Rasheeds 3’s are a weapon since it spreads the floor and draws his defender usually a center or power forward away from the hoop leaving a free lane Rondo, Pierce and Daniels etc to drive, but he must also balance it out by going down low to score at times also.
We need low post scoring from Rasheed also, so hopefully Doc can reel him and set him up on the block for some offense.

Nope keep shooting those 3's Rasheed!
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

That’s what Sheed does: he draws the other team’s center out of the paint and opens up the lane for the wing players. And if no one is going to get in his face, he’s going to chuck some 3’s. He’s pretty good everywhere, though.

Yep...
Especially last season, he was almost exclusively perimeter-oriented. In a way, it’s frustrating, as he has the skills to score inside. However, the proof is in the statistics: last season, 90% of Rasheed’s shots were jumpers.

Thats sheeds game….he shot too many 3s with the Pistons, because there was virtually no other big man they could throw the ball too..
with us, i believe theyre telling a guy whos historically taken to many 3s in the last few seasons too spead the floor and shoot 3s..and hes more then happy to oblige

We knew this going in...
Offensively, he thinks he`s a “2” { shooting guard}.
As long as he`s a defensive force in the paint, and rebounds…all is good.

Thats what you want out of Sheed
The only problem is he has got to up his percentage. 33.3% is not that good for someone that takes a lot of threes.

Well, if Rasheed shoots too many 3’s, he gets benched; whats the problem? If he persists, we trade him.

Yes that’s too many for someone who doesn’t hit a high percentage. He shoots them far more often than Nowitzki. Kind of reminds me of another Celtics power forward from a few years ago. That said, he’s still a weapon out there, but I wish he would concentrate on taking the open ones. Too many times he is too deep and too rushed.

Who cares
Sheed is what he is. He’s still a major improvement over our big men last year.
Playing with Daniels and Rondo, he will get a lot of open looks from outside when they penetrate. What I care about most is his effort on defense. So long as that is high, no problem.

Yes
….and it will continue. I think my only question is: Are you the only guy that didn’t realize Rasheed shoots too many 3’s?
That’s like saying Shaq dunks too much…..or Kobe rapes too much
