Rondo, C's to talk extension on Sunday
Two tidbits I found interesting is that it looks like both sides are going to give this one last shot on Sunday and that for the first time I saw the numbers being bandied about. Rondo wants 5-year/$55-60 million and Danny is offering 5-year/$45 million. Can't see how this can't be settled at the 5-year/$53-55 million area. That's really not too much for what Rondo brings to the table.

From the perspective of a non-Celtics fan looking in, I can’t understand why the Cs would be so reticent to hand Rondo that type of contract. I can only imagine that this is all game-tactics to secure the best deal possible, which also happened with the LaMarcus Aldridge negotiations in Portland.
It’s not like the Celtics have to worry long-term about KG or Allen, both of which have peaked and are on the way down in the near future. Rondo is a huge cornerstone to continue to build this franchise on — and one that would likely secure other big names down the track.
With comparison to the money that Aldridge got handed, 5 years at about $65m, this would sound like pretty good value for a guy that should remain a top-5 PG for the foreseeable future.

Several red flags from last season: no free-throw shooting ability (~.600), no jump shot to speak of, and a tendency to disappear in games.
While Rondo has performed admirably when he was the fourth-best player on the team, there is no telling how he’ll perform on a team where he is the best player. And paying him this type of money (~13-14 million per year) automatically puts him in the salary slot for one of your top 3 guys.
