KG always has a Halloween mask on.

Chris Paul single handedly kept the Hornets in the game and Peja was hot from the field, but they just didn't have enough support.  David West was held to 10 and nobody else scored more than 8.

Pierce carried the home team while Rondo only chipped in 10 assists this time.  Also, it was fitting to see Sheed hit a few momentum shifting shots in the 3rd as Posey (the guy that used to do that for us) looked on.

Celtics improve to 4-0.

It's a case of being greedy...

But I’d like to see Scalabrine and Tony Allen healthy and on the court again. Ray Allen is racking up too many minutes. Naturally I’ll be happy to see Glen Davis as well, but Williams has been fine in his absence.

I want to see TA healthy, but on the bench.

He has too many mental lapses on the court, and there’s just no place for that with our depth this year.

But I’ve missed hearing “Scal for 3….. GOT IT!”

Scalabrine or Tony Allen.

When they come back, as long as they play solid defense and move the ball, that’s all we need out of that particular backup spot. Ray Allen’s remarkable, but he can’t go all season playing 40 plus minutes.

by no kidding on Nov 1, 2009 9:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree completely that Ray can't keep averaging so many minutes

but in the case of TA, seems like he’s not out there for very long cuz of his mistakes.

When Scal is 100%, he can play some minutes at the 3 and Quis can play a nice chunk of minutes at the 2.

Doc said he hasn’t talk to a team doctor about TA in days, that speaks for itself as far as his place in the rotation.

It won't always be a picnic

Nice to see the C’s close late in the game though. Pierce’s 3 with 1:17 left was a nice dagger.

Pierce was so smooth tonight…

by drod400 on Nov 1, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Kinda sloppy game if you think about it

Though it was really funny for me Bobby Brown hoisting up ALL those threes

Pierce came through Rondo well was sub par today

by Zzbeat on Nov 1, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Subpar with 10 assists and 3 steals?

Okay…

Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!

by RJ87 on Nov 1, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

see, I kinda agree

for one thing, Rondo himself has upped the level of expectations

for another thing, stats don’t tell the whole story (Rondo was even better than his stats in the first 3 games)

and finally, he was kinda sloppy at times, gambled on reaching fouls, and was kinda outshone (that a word?) by Chris Paul – granted, Paul is the standard, but he’s where Rondo wants to be talked about with (and paid with)

so all in all, an off night for Rondo in my view (but still better than most PGs)

I couldn’t watch the game, so I’m surprised to learn James Posey had zero points. Also, I see House finally cooled down to ambient temperature.

by no kidding on Nov 1, 2009 8:42 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

You shoulda seen Eddie's pass

…to Shelden on a pick and roll for the dunk. As fine a PG play as you’ll see anywhere. Just perfect, beautiful. Eddie’s a man of many talents.

by DRJ1 on Nov 1, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I had time on my hands, so I was watching the NBA’s play-by-play graphics in the fourth quarter when House made that pass to Williams. I couldn’t see it, but sensed it probably was well played by House (Williams not having, perhaps, the best of hands).

Very nice win.

Way to close that thing out. It was a close game but we controlled it. I love this team.

Good game, Celtics fans.

It was a lot closer than I thought it would be. The Hornets just couldn’t contain KG and Paul Pierce.

by redzero on Nov 1, 2009 8:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Lackluster Performance

They won’t beat the elite teams playing like that. Rondo’s agent was probably wincing thoughout the game, because Chris Paul was clearly superior.

But I suppose a win is a win.

huh?

Rondo was fine tonite…

by jyrecelts on Nov 1, 2009 8:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

we played bad

and still won by 10.

CP3 owned Rondo tonight. He may be in the discussion of top 5, but he is not in CP3’s class right now. No way Rondo can produce that kind of offense.

by footey on Nov 1, 2009 8:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Rondo’s game is setting up his teammates to score, not scoring himself. Paul may have outscored him, but Rondo had more assists….

Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!

by RJ87 on Nov 1, 2009 9:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

apples and oranges

Rondo’s primary job is not to score on this Celtics team but rather create scoring opportunities for the many scoring players (Pierce, KG, Allen, Sheed, House, etc.), whereas on the Hornets, Paul is one of, if not the primary scoring options.

At any rate, the tale of the tape is as so:

Paul outscored Rondo 22 to 6.
Rondo had 2 more assists (10 to 8) and 1 more steal (3 to 2).
Paul played 37 minutes to Rondo’s 26.

That tells me that while he was in the game, Rondo had a bigger impact per minute.

Why was Paul following the Celtic’s team? I saw him jawing with Pierce and then Rondo stepped up to him and then Pierce separated them.

Anyone have actual details on what that was about? (Please spare us lame guesses).

Not nearly effective tonight as usual, but a win is a win.

Just a off night, and they won’t be playing like this against someone like the lakers i’m sure. As for the Rondo-CP3 debate, CP3 did outplay Rondo a little, but Rondo wins in the setting up points. Too many TOs though, which is unusual, and our bench got outplayed finally.

by hportallstar on Nov 1, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

There is no Rondo-CP3 debate.

Rondo is delusional if he thinks he’s better than Paul, Parker, or Williams.

by redzero on Nov 1, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agree that there's no debate...

…but not because he’s clearly inferior. He’s just clearly different. Rondo is more valuable to the Cs than any of those guys would be. And he would be less valuable to their teams than they are. Rondo found his place in the NBA… with the Celtics. It would be very hard to find any other team where his particular talents fit so perfectly, while his deficiencies are so well-hidden and made almost irrelevant.

by DRJ1 on Nov 1, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Paul and Williams would make the Celtics much better.

The only thing he has over them is defense. He isn’t a better passer and he isn’t even in the discussion scoring wise.

by redzero on Nov 1, 2009 9:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Have to agree about Paul

Rondo seems like the most perfect PG for the Cs… great communication and chemistry and distribution, etc…. but that’s probably because we’ve grown so accustomed. Chris Paul is the best PG in the game today, and if he were with the Cs… they’d probably keep winning championships until the big 3 hit 40.

CP3 said: “Rondo’s a lucky guy, to play with those guys.” He is.

by DRJ1 on Nov 1, 2009 10:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Think of it this way...

If Rondo and Paul exchanged teams… The Cs would become even more unstoppable, but the Hornets would sink to somewhere near the bottom of the league. Rondo without the scorers all around him just doesn’t work.

by DRJ1 on Nov 1, 2009 10:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you'd see a different Paul

if he played on the Celtics he would have to play a different game.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t be better than Rondo at it, but he would be playing on a team that funnels its scoring through Paul, KG & Ray. He would need to play a totally different game than he does with the Hornets.

Rondo hardly even attempts very many shots. Have you not noticed that when playing point, even Quissy takes very few shots? The Celtics offense is designed such that the PG is pretty much the last scoring option. Maybe that would change with CP3 – but how would that mesh with a team that has Pierce, Allen & KG?

Basically I think these sorts of arguments are silly.

by mmmmm on Nov 1, 2009 11:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

at what?

The only stat that CP was ‘clearly’ better than Rondo at was points scored (22 to 6). But that was in significantly more minutes – 37 to 26.

In all the other important PG stats (assists, steals, rebounds) Rondo did slightly better – again, in a lot fewer minutes.

Chris Paul is going to HAVE to play more minutes on a team like the Hornets. Rondo in general shouldn’t HAVE to play more than 30 very often since Daniels and House are proving to be very capable off the bench. And even on the days when Rondo does play 35+, it will still be a rare day when he even takes 10 shots, let alone scores 20. But on those days don’t be surprised to see him post 15+ assists.

Again, i’m not here to say Rondo is as good or better than Chris Paul. But folks need to look past the pts column on the box score if they are going to compare them.

by mmmmm on Nov 1, 2009 11:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Flat Game.

Not the best game the C’s have ever played, that’s for sure. Still nice to see the win streak alive. CP3 was tremendous in the 2nd half, clearly the best PG in the NBA by a country mile. Rondo would have had at least half a dozen more assists if our shot was falling early but you have to expect these types of games. Pedrag was gold for the hornets, it shows regardless of his age he still demands a great deal of attention on the perimeter.

by Jackson34 on Nov 1, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Paul definitely outplayed Rondo, but he sort of has to if his team is going to have a chance. That said, this is the first game this season where we have seen some silly turnovers frm Rondo , but its gonna happen every now and then. I would also like to see him scoring just a little more, around the clip where he was last year (12 ppg) just so he can keep the defense honest.

by misterx2day on Nov 1, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Sloppy, ugly win

- Too many silly TOs.
- Too many defensive lapses. How many 3s does Peja have to hit before you stop leaving him wide open?
- 65% FT shooting is not going to win many games. I know little girls that do better than that.
- Btw, that nice move by Perk underneath vs. Okafor toward the end of the 1st period?… he took five steps prior to the layup. Lucky no-call.
- One bright spot: Eddie House. Not his shooting today, but his PG play. A beautiful pick-and-roll pass to Shelden for the dunk, and a nice pass to Quis for a layup. Eddie is just a great, great player… underappreciated, I think.
- And they did play well in the last few minutes.

Oh well, can’t have a great game every time out. Nice to get the win anyway.

DRJ1 - nice wrapup

Box score says we only had 15 TO’s??? Seemed more like 25

NO shot 28 threes !!!! and hit almost 50% of them…..

agree on Eddie

PP …..nice and solid

Good picture of KG above……he is killing the ref with his eyes….slowly but painfully

Is it Soup Yet?

I Love Rondo

But I have a hard time believing that what he did — getting in CP3’s face after the game — was warranted. If the Celtics are going to be so good or — fine — so cocky as to be detestable, I can live with that. But no need to punks about it, especially not when you, personally, get outplayed.

And that right there is all I really have to complain about. This is an amazing team to watch.

by BPH on Nov 1, 2009 10:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

CSNE clip was out of context, apparently...

AP reports this: Chris Paul “walked toward the Boston locker room as the Celtics were filing off the court before Celtics’ assistant coaches stopped him; New Orleans coach Byron Scott came over to retrieve him. Rondo looked back but kept walking.”

Not exactly what they showed on CSNE. Have to believe AP, because they’re describing the whole picture, not just one isolated scene.

by DRJ1 on Nov 1, 2009 10:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed

CP was definitely out of place in that scene and jawing with Pierce over something. Rondo still shouldn’t have stuck his chest out at CP, though.

it’s so nice to win games, even if all the effort isn’t there. it’s a long season and it ’s hard to keep the flame hot all the time, but it is great to see a bunch of pros move the ball, hit the open man, even on the off days.yeah, rondo is great for this team, but this team is limited in time left for the big 3. danny has to fill the spots to fit rondo or does rondo adjust to whom danny gets?

by nazzbo on Nov 1, 2009 10:46 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I agree with you 100%.

It is a very long season and we won’t always be dominant every game, and have off days just like every team does.

I am pretty sure Rondo can adjust to any team Danny puts out there. Rondo has the ability to make plays happen whether if its him driving it in or fooling the other team passing for assists. This would work for anyone Danny puts out there.

by nazzbo on Nov 1, 2009 10:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Couple of things

I was at the game, but did not see the Paul/Rondo/Pierce thing. However, Paul andd Rondo did go at each other during the game and each was assessed a technical. As for the Paul and Rondo comparison, Paul is far superior, but Rondo will get this team to another championship. One other thing about Rondo tonight. He seemed to hurt is right ankle in the first quarter and I am not sure how that affected his poor defense on Paul, especially in the third quarter.

I can’t believe the tone of some of the comments in this thread. The team is 4-0 and beat a better than average team tonight by 10 points despite having an off night. Look at what happened to the mighty Lakers the other night — they lost to the Mavericks. We can’t expect the C’s to be perfect game in and game out and I will certainly take a 4-0 start that includes wins over Cleveland and New Orleans.
