Young Legs Cause Trouble

Not a good night.

More photos » Charles Krupa - AP

Not a good night.

Once again, a young talented team gave the Celtics fits and gave the Celtics their 2nd loss of the year.  The Hawks grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to Boston's 6.  I expect there will be more games like this as the team ages and the young teams get better.

agree - it was embarrassing

guess the C’s stayed up late watching the Lakers

impressive recent wins by Cavs and Lakers

team looked old, slow and gimpy; absolutely hated the demeanor out there; no fire

too many areas of concern to even list them – but our rebounding is awful, shot selection is poor, and Wallace can be a serious liability

Agree, too many areas of concern to name!!! Like I said….WE WERE EXPOSED BIG TIME!!!

Just one game.

But if you live by the Three….etc. And some bad calls. And the Hawks played there guts out. The Hawks got away with a lot but made the shots. We are still a work in progress.

Team has no energy...

Looks like we are out of gas… Doesn’t look like we gonna go all the way with team playing like this….

agree with all of the above. teams like the bulls, suns and hawks give us fits. I guess you can put orlando in there too. we can play better than we did tonight but this is a disturbing trend

PATHETIC game by the Celtics tonight

by ziggen on Nov 13, 2009 11:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

We did 2 years ago what we had to do to win 1 flag, after 20 years of irrelevance. We got our flag. We mortgaged our future to get that flag, but we got it. You really dont think there are going to be more flags with that same team, do you? Unless we start trading value for value; Not Scal and /or Tony and/ or Walker and/or any combination of members of our bench; we will enter our second irrelevant era. Age is the great equalizer; Value for value;you get what you pay for.

We are in the wee hours of Nov. 14, and the Celtics are 8-2

Seventh in offensive efficiency and second defensive efficiency heading into the Atlanta game.

The owners paid for a pretty excellent basketball team and for the most part have gotten just that through 10 games.

As is prone to happen over an 82-game season, the team wasn’t so good tonight.

The sky is not falling.

Frustrated.

The hawks have given us fits before and will continue to do so until doc comes up with a solution. It’s painfully obvious that doc has no answers for the hawks or any one who plays that style of game. Time after time we got ran by for easys looks easy assists and extra chances. It didnt help that the ref’s let the hawks foul Paul on every drive, perk on every post up and on countless offensive plays the offensive foul should have been called but instead a Celtic got the foul called on them instead. It’s was ugly and disappointing. I think we should go will a faster pace when pauls out and perks out. Push tempo and let rondo or daniels draw fouls or create east shots for eddie ray sheed…etc. On a positive note kg looks reAl healthy. We the viewers at home are a little mad. The home crowd was silent all except for a few short stretches of half hearted noise. If you are a Celtic fan or you don’t feel like cheering all game to help out your team especiall in a rivalry game….sell your seats! Period then end!

hawks fan here

rondo is the man and and an old man like Bibby out played him – If he took the game on his sholders I am not sure we win.

Banner 18 Delayed

Hopefully they make the right moves next season… I dont think they can get banner 18 this year playing like this.

Hey it’s pretty much this year or never. Our old players will be even older next year. I’m not counting them out but something is definitely off right now.

And I don't think championships are won or lost on November 13

Nor do I think this is indicative of how the Celtics will play all season.

I wish they would post more with Wallace & Garnett....

Then maybe that would open up the three game for them, hit cutters, ect….They just seem to work so hard running of screens just for a shot!

Perkins is frustrating me. I think married life has sapped hi strength. Does he have any offensive boards this season?

I can accept losing - I can't accept the demeanor - it was terrible

team got up by 7 in the 3rd Q … and stopped playing

team got up by 6 in the 3rd Q … and stopped playing

team got within 2 … and 2nd unit completely screwed up the 4th Q; Wallace completely failed to show on pick and rolls and the Hawks walked right in for 6 footers

more than that, the 1st unit can’t seem to dominate a single 1st Q this year; that for me is the most telling stat (and rebound differential, which is negative for the first time in the last 2 years)

team was at home for 5 days, 3 practices, etc. and comes out and plays this badly; I can’t explain it; yes, the Hawks are energetic; good for them; but that doesn’t account for the Celtics horrible execution on both ends … and the loss of composure

PP

PP looks like he has camped himself over at the sizzler a bit, in between games of shuffleboard. seriously, BOTH he and baby need to cool it. and to think PP and Kobe are so close i age yet so so so so so so different in everything else

by lakersbluedevil on Nov 13, 2009 11:20 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah, they are different

Pierce is a good guy and Kobe is conceited and unpopular; Pierce stuck by the team and the city in good times and bad; as soon as the Lakers were bad, Kobe wanted out; when Pierce was the only good player on the team, they reached the Conference Finals and won some epic games; when Kobe was the only good player on the Lakers, they completely sucked; without a strong supporting crew, Kobe and the Lakers would be a 40 win team

tonight the C’s lost by 11, but since there’s a basketball god, the Lakers lost by 26; and don’t forget the two Laker overtimes against bad teams, and a pretty mediocre performance against the Clips

at least the C’s have looked good in half their games; the Lakers have looked good maybe once or twice

it’s a long season

didn’t watch the Lakers game, but i’ll bet Kobe was motoring around in his Power Scooter lugging a bottle of oxygen

Several good points on Kobe/PP...

However…LA has been without Gasol all season.

by Title 18 on Nov 14, 2009 6:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i would have liked to see the first 8 celts games without K, let's say

in the lineup and THEN where the celts and PP’d be…
we are playing without our second best player by far. we’’ll be fine, ESPECIALLY at the end of the season.
not even being a hater, but i honestly can’t say the same about the celts. they need one more player

Quit using the phrase "stopper defender"

Not only am I tired of reading your poorly used phrase but it’s not used proppedly. The term your looking for is “defensive stopper” that’s the phrase! Please no more ignorance. Also. Trading baby isn’t going to happen unless it includes another bigger name player. Lastly the only trade a celtics fan is willing to do right now is getting rid of TA GIDDENS SCAL (sorry) and maybe bill walker. Who else are we gonna trade. We just inked glen and sheed and daniels. The coach needs to do a better job of controling his team. Doc has got to statagize with the other coaches and players to figure out how everyone fits in. It’s been sloppy most nights. I know I’m watching each game. So no more trade advice and no more poorly used phrases. English people. English! We’re talking bout English!

D

No intensity like 2 yrs ago
What happened to the lock down D?
They got their rings and aren’t as hungry.
They need Tibideau to work on D
They need to think hard about whether they really want to be champs

Very frustrating, but it happens.

Another high scoring offense that the celtics struggle with. Way too many offensive rebounds and 2nd chance points for the hawks. Very embarrassing that we let that happen. These young teams are making the old guys very fatigued.

I hope we can stop Danny Granger tomorrow night though, he worries me.

let’s not get carried away. it’s only 1 game and it’s a marathon. we need to survive until it’s a halfcourt game in the playoffs. that being said, the hawks outplayed us and deserved to win tho they got away with murder with the refs’ non calls on their pushing off with the off hand on every drive to the basket. sheed takes 2 shots down low and hits them and avoids the paint the rest of the time. enough of this- he spreads the floor bull and get him down low more. eddie is in a slump and looked terrible.

by nazzbo on Nov 13, 2009 11:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

As a solid Celtics fan it was really frustrating to watch the C’s play tonight. They looked like a bunch of old-timers standing around while the young ones ran rings around them. Too many 3’s, a lot of sloppy passes and one-on-one plays. Above all, they were outrebounded tonight, especially on the offensive end.

I hope this serves as a wake up call to take no team for granted, get their acts together & start producing some consistent W’s.

Go Celtics!

Thank u hawks fan!

I bleed green but your right! He could take anyone of your hawks off the dribble…fouls easy looks for everyone else. We saw a quick glimps in the fourth but that’s was it. Loosen the chains on him doc! Let him work…he creates easy offense for others…oh and post up sheed and kg for gods sake! No post offense at all… even with josh smith and horford and zazazzzzzza we should have been able to post up. Atleast a little bit…both those guy have lots of moves. They shouldn’t be shooting from 20+ feet out all the time. You don’t see horford or pau or Howard or bosh allways shooting 20+ foot j’s! It’s just a weapon they have to compliment their post game. Who is running this team? I’m embarassed! I am not pannicking but each starter needs too look in the mirror and see who they are. Paul I love ya bro….clutch…but only force shots when needed. Let others help you create…and if your not getting foul calls change your stratagy. Ray…sweetest money shot ever…but be more assertive look for your shot and if it’s not falling pump or head fake and drive and create.
Kevin…heart andsoul..healthy again…thug out once in a while hype up that lazy crowd!
Perk….keep doing what your doing…just box out better. Rondo…if doc won’t let u run free and we are struggling like tonight….do your thing till he takes you out…drive kick drive foul drive dunk drive assist drive layup! Few can check u! But none on the hawks!!! Can’t wait to hear doc squirm about not letting u go to work.

Good grief people

Get a grip. One game. Out rebounded. Second and third chance points. The officials decided to let just about anything go. Ball bounces for the other team sometimes and tonight was one of those nights.

by Jaycelt on Nov 14, 2009 1:22 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

...uh, oops...

Whether it’s Rondo checking out or Doc’s offense being too restrictive, I think it is plain to see that he’s not taking over games the way we’re all hoping to see. Clearly, when Rondo is attacking, the C’s are at their best. So why doesn’t Rajon attack every game? Why doesn’t he attack every quarter? Obviously Doc realizes RR’s importance – he has stated how much Rondo controls the energy of the team – so where is the communication breakdown?

Rondo took 4 shots tonight, mostly in the fourth quarter. He needs to show up and drive this bus. That means recognizing when the team needs his scoring, or even when the game calls for him attacking the basket in order to change the team mentality. For all the lame “chemistry” analogies by ESPN and everyone else this preseason, I am starting to agree. The C’s represent an explosive mix of players ONLY when Rondo is the catalyst.

by milt palacio's shot on Nov 14, 2009 4:34 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Also... let's not collectively crap our pants just yet.

We’re 8-2 and it’s early in the season. Yes the C’s look slow at times, but like we all said it’s most important to be rested for the playoffs, when the half-court game better suits this team’s style. The Celtics are old but they’re not THAT old. The ‘Big 4’ (including Sheed) is 33.5 years old. The other contributors (RR, KP, MD, EH, SW…eventually GD) are closer to 25 years old.

The teams that tend to win championships are always the older teams. I’m thinking of the Jordan Bulls, Duncan Spurs, and even the Shaq Lakers (Rick Fox, Brian Shaw anybody?) Every mini-dynasty since the 90’s, including Hakeem’s Rockets, has been just as old if not older than the C’s are now.

Not as intimidating

Already 2 home losses in just 10 games. That’s quite a surprise! They gave up way too may 2nd chances.

A trend

Lack of rebounding hurt us tremendously. Has been an issue last three games. Effort? We need to get better at rebounding, especially with teams like the Lakers, Magic and Cavs having quality bigs.

ATL Youth? Can’t really see it being a problem…some lack of effort on C’s part was reason we lost.

Defense wins games (And Championships)!

by Celtics18and19 on Nov 14, 2009 6:27 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

re Trend

Atl was sending a gang at the boards vs Cs who only had one man in the middle —usually Perk. or Shelden. That one guy cant box em all out, and Perk is a step slower than Horford/Smith The downside of an offensive system that spreads the floor over much? Ten D
