Celtics rebound, but still lose
Well that was gross. The vaunted Celtics defense gave up 113 points to the Pacers. The second unit that could supposedly start on other teams was largely ineffective. Altogether, that was pretty disappointing and the Celtics now have a losing streak.
After making a big deal about the Celtics poor rebounding this season earlier this afternoon, the Celtics killed it on the glass, grabbing 9 more rebounds than the Pacers, but still lost the game. So much for that theory, at least for tonight.
Give credit to the Pacers. They made shots tonight. Danny Granger is a fantastic player and Dahntay Jones had the game of his Pacers life.
I would be remiss if I didn't add that Joey Crawford is a terrible human being. This is just to Joey. Joey, no one watches basketball to see you officiate so stop acting like you're the star of the show. NO ONE would miss you if you were gone from our NBA lives. For clarity, Joey and the rest of the officials were not the problem tonight, so don't write in the comments that I'm blaming this on them. I just really really dislike Joey Crawford.

third quarter collapse.
when will the hungry Celtics team show up? Do we need a massive whopping just to go back to playing Celtics Basketball?
Yep, no hunger out there.
Even in the postgame interviews, I’m sensing a lack of caring. Last 2 years, it was like somebody died when we lost. This season, it’s just the ‘breaks of the game.’

Sounds like Laker-itis. They seem to have been lacking that killer instinct in the last few games, unless its a big-time game. Although I don’t see this being a problem come playoffs, but now is the time to be working out the bugs. This team doesn’t panic, and almost plays better from behind the whole game instead of in close games
Great point about the post game reaction of both of the last 2 games.
The fire after losing games is not their like it was the previous 2 season, which is very disturbing.
They need to show some emotion and that they are pissed off about this funk they are in ASAP!!!

@DaarisDirk
same thing happened in '86
it took an embarrassment in NY on XMAS day to set them straight. hope this team doesn’t wait that long.

Thanks for calling out Joey
I know he did not lose the game for us……but he really does stink…….call it a night Joey and just retire …..you make me look happy!!!
We need some FIRE!!! Hopefully we find it
Is it Soup Yet?
williams' stats looks better than sheed's
almost a double double again
i dont like the way rondo has been playing he has to be last by pt guardss in ft attempts and shots taken
Well
They don’t play till Wednesday. Doc has plenty of time to light them up. shrugs
Seriously, it’s like unless the game’s on ESPN or TNT, I have no chance of seeing it because the streams are terrible. I’m too pissed off at certain stream sites to talk about this game, because I don’t even know how we lost.
All I can say is…we have a break, maybe better things will happen. _’
Oh, and maybe we’ll shoot 3’s again.
not many bright spots in this one
rondo was a non factor again as was pierce. we need a scorer off thebench. house and sheed and marquis arent giving us enought right now
Rasheed.....turning into a nightmare!!!!
19 minutes…..0 rebounds…….0 for 2 from beyond the arch!
I don't even know where to start...
There are lots of areas needing improvement right now…
Most significantly, we’re missing the kind of intensity that made this team great the last 2 years. Did Rasheed bring his Piston nonchalance with him? This team used to care more about bringing it every night. Now we lose and shrug our shoulders. It’s sad.
The 2nd unit isn’t performing right now. I’d like to see Hudson get some PT as we need a jolt of some kind. House had his 5th bad game in a row.
The 1st unit has lost it’s verve and chemistry. After setting picks for Rondo in the first quarter, we didn’t do it the rest of the night. There were even times when Ray was running the offense….what’s that about?
by SalmonAndMashedPotatoes on Nov 14, 2009 10:18 PM EST reply actions
I agree that we need energy
we look flat and other teams are just taking it right to us. they are playing like they have nothing to lose and we are not playing with patience or focus
They ran away with it
You’re right, of course. Joey Crawford is a total jerk. Should be fined for giving out unwarranted techs. But the refs were not the reason the Cs lost this game.
They lost because the Pacers just got white hot from the field in the 2nd half. EVERY ONE of them started hitting every jacked-up shot he took. I did not think the Cs’ D was below average… but you can’t cover everyone all the time. The Pacers got hot at the worst time. In 82 games, that’s gonna happen… and when it does, you’re probably going to lose those games. That’s why it’s practically impossible to win every game.
Eddie and Sheed are still in a funk. Tighter D and more urgency would help. But bottom line: tonight we faced on opponent that got super-hot in the 2nd half and just ran away with the game.
Celtics have played the last 2 games....
like they just do not care about winning and want to lose.
I know it sounds crazy and is not the case, but boy it sure looks like it.
CELTICS NEED BABY BACK !!
I’ve been saying this for three games now. What started off fine (read:we’re just breezin along fine without Glen) just ain’t happenning anymore !
Glen adds STEAM and ATTITUDE. Why ? because they feed off each other. Garnett and Pierce work to impress Baby, like a role model thing. It’s not silly it’s real.
Baby works like a WARHORSE and has PASSION.
He may be more KEY to this team than we even realize.
I want my BABY back !!!
i like that.....Baby come back!!!

Something else to think about
in Basketball like Hockey now, the Regular Season JUST DOESNT MATTER much at all anymore. Everyone KNOWS the Celts will be in the playoffs.
After last year’s experience in the playoffs ( being SPENT and INJURED )
why would they want to go ALL OUT now ???
why not conserve, cruise, try some stuff and just waltz into the playoffs THEN lay it on ?
If Baby comes back and they still play like this, Ill be convinced the Big Three have a secret plan to hang loose and conserve, conserve all their best til the
big dance.
sheeds not doin anythin..
i say keep shelden williams n trade rasheed n tony allen to toronto fer chris bosh
Sure you're joking, but...
… why not keep Shelden out there when he’s kickin’ butt like he was, and leave the ice-cold Sheed on the bench for a change? Likewise, why not give the highly energetic and (apparently) prolific Lester Hudson some PT, ferkrissakes… and leave the ice-cold Eddie House on the bench?
“Apparently” is necessary because we’ve only seen glimpses of Lester’s potential, since Doc has so far refused to give him significant minutes. This is a known problem with Doc and new players. Fix it, Doc. Now’s the time; later will be too late. Have a look at the Bucks and that man-child Brandon Jennings. Rookies can be great too… but not without the chance to show what they can do.
100% correct
Good point out young guys like Hudson and Walker can help us if Doc plays them.
Doc has a bad habit of not playing young guys and he must stop it for the good of the club.
How can an almost 7-footer play 19 minutes and get no rebounds?
That is what Rasheed did tonight. I find that almost impossible to believe.
Only explanation is........
is his head was not in the game and he was not motivated to play.
I can understand players can not get up for all 82 regular season games so lets hope this is the case and all will be well soon again.
And on another note
Mr. Rondo has now missed 9 straight free thows and is shooting 25 percent from the line this year.
Disgracefull
I shot better free throws when I was 8 then Rondo is doing currently.
Get him a new shooting coach ASAP, his mechanics shooting the ball must be screwed up in some way and need to be retaught to him.
Still happy with the 55 million
Listen I know it’s only game 11 but this is Rondo when the rest of the team is quiet. Unfortunately, I am unable to watch these games because I am overseas but it sounds to me like Rondo is being Rondo. Keeps passing until someone scores and passes up that jumper that he’s not confident in. Until, he is able to knock down a 15fter 75% of the time and increase his FTs to 80% we overpaid in my opinion.
As far as Sheed goes, this is Sheed and he goes through stretches like this he’ll be fine. I do think however that he must stop hitting threes and both he and Garnet should stay in the paint.
Doc, great coach but sounds like the team has hit a rough patch early. It happens! I was able to watch Bynum play against the Nuggets. Dam when they get Gasol back they’re going to be a tough tough team to beat. Just my opinion of course.
You expect the guy to average 75% from 15 feet? Really?
Kind of a ridiculous expectation.
Apparently the Marquis Daniels experiment as back up point guard is over
We’re back to Eddie House bringing the ball up court, which was not supposed to happen so that he’d be free to run around looking for spots to get off his jumper. Has Doc yet noticed that House’s shooting percentage dips drastically when he is asked to play the point? Just wonderin’.
Garnett looks to be playing very soft inside. Perhaps, like Tom Brady, he needs time to get his game back.
Lastly, why are the Celtics trying to run up and down the floor and match baskets with the likes of Phoenix, Atlanta and Indiana. They need to be slowing games down, so their vaunted defense can take control, although it doesn’t look all that vaunted right now.
"Gross" was a most unexpected but apt word choice ...
I try to never hit the panic button, especially this early in a season … but the anger button I feel much more comfortable with. What’s up with these guys? Guys standing around, lack of ball movement, no spark. Ugh.

As much as making this comparison sickens me (as a Laker fan)
It might be a good thing long-term to take the view that the Lakers, and largely Phil, takes for the season. It’s an 82 game season and there are disastrous and lackluster efforts put up on occasional nights. The Lakers just got blown out in Denver after arguably having their best game of the season in Denver. Denver is treating it like they won the championship; Atlanta is probably pretty psyched out also that it beat Boston on its home court.
Does it matter? Hardly. Both teams are painfully aware that 1) the light bulb turns on in the playoffs; both teams are too good, too stacked, and too well led for anything else 2) games like these serve as motivating factors for the season 3) losing games to future playoff opponents means absolutely squat; case in point — 2007 Finals between San Antonio and Cleveland. On top of all this, it’s November. Relax. No team this year is cracking 72-10. The Bulls benefited from having an unbelievably cohesive team (that finished first in both offensive and defense efficiency) and an incredibly motivated MJ along with the league expansion that distilled a lot of the league’s talent.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
best game of the season in Phoenix*
Sleepy…
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Remember that new expansion teams were just created that year or around that year when the bulls went 72 wins

72 wins??
We can kiss Wallace’s prediction of winning more than 72 games away. Before the season started, I didn’t expect the Celtics to lose their 3rd until new year eve. In their las two losses, the 30+ Celtics really showed their age.
I hope they were just expertmenting some lineup combinations. They should know by now what does not work. Just hope they discover what really works real soon.
Wallace the new McCarty
All indications are that Wallace will wrest the Walter McCarty I Never Saw a Rebound I Wanted or Liked trophy from his teammate Scal.

too much trash talkin' and jawin'
so pierce and kg talked trash and it motivated dantae jones? what a surprise!. how come we can’t keep our damn mouths shut and just play ball? same with perkins and rasheed. just shut the F up and play ball
They look old right now!!
The last couple of games the Celts looked OLD. Teams seems to be able to run on them at will. This team was supposed to be good defensively, but is not playing that way. As a few have already said, House should not be acting like a point guard. When he has to be responsible for the offense his entire game is off. The team looks flat, and appears to be playing older than their ages!!!
Age is not a issue...
Even our young guys like Rondo and Perk look slow and lethargic in the last few games.
The whole team young and old players alike are all in a slump and playing with no energy.
They need a good butt whipping from Doc to get them going !
Sunday Morning thoughts
Fat Cat Syndrome?
You can’t teach desire.
Eddie and Ray are shooters, not point guards. Not news I know but…
Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and Jeff Foster didn’t play.
Perk has learned to score in the post – but should still be the 7th option on each possession.
The C’s are very deep but are they deep in the right spots? – PG, low post scorer and SF.
I see KG getting better each game!
Bottom Line
throw a normal backup point and Baby out there with Sheed or KG at center and we’ve got a quick unit…using Daniels at the point lends itself to big lineups..but the bottom line=Pierce and Rondo are the two guys that open up everything and everybody plays offa them and they have been LAIDBACK these last few games…we’re getting to methodical and we’re in mud on defense…and yes,i’m throwing out my annual “backup point cry”..HA
Good point.....
I think they should play Hudson at point to allow Daniels to play the small forward position more often.
That should bring more speed and energy to the court.
Back to Back Games
12 more Back to Back games this year. Next one SA and OKC Dec 3rd and 4th.
Joe Crawford
When will the league get tired of his game and just fire him?
He is not the reason the Celtics lost, but he is out of control!
PERKINS MUST GO
LISTEN THIS IS BS I REALIZE PERKINS WAS YOUNG COMING IN THE LEAGUE. BUT LET’S FACE IT THIS KID IS GOING TO RUIN A CHANCE TO WIN. KEEP HIM IF YOU WANT BUT I SAID THIS 2 YRS AGO PERKINS MUST GO.
Huh?
I don’t think it was Perk’s fault by himself
Defense wins games (And Championships)!

seriously?
what games have you been watching? Perk’s the only one that’s played with any consistency all year. Perk’s not costing us games—-the rest of the team, sure, pick any of them for lack of hustle, but Perk’s been just fine.
by slamtheking on Nov 15, 2009 10:42 PM EST up reply actions
hmmm, and yet we won a championship with Perk starting for us.
so sorry, try again.
Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!
Calm down
